First topic message reminder :

Massive game tomorrow - Neither side will be worried by the French.
England will probably still manage to lose to bloody Wales though

My understanding that Billy's mum was anxiuos to keep her surname for its scarcity value. His dad agreed and later, after the marriage became a tree surgeon.
But you version of the story is more media friendly and reputedly wrong.

Yep Doc, England won't get anywhere today by being nice - it's going to be a huge match. I do hope they show that they've got the right spirit because they're going to need it. My morning is dragging a bit as my son's rugby that I would have been watching now has been rained off so I'm left trying to usefully fill the time leading up to kick off...

Rain in Dublin. A nice soggy pitch to get the scrums slipping and sliding.
Hope there's no repeat of Clancy's version of Deal Or No Deal yesterday when the game of pure chance required no skill in the set pieces.

Yeah, I am really concerned about this match, too. Ireland could easily stick it to England, and in a big way. England need to come out aggressively and confidently early on - to match Ireland who surely will. Then keep up the pressure, and gain the same domionance in the scrum as last year. And avoid that one over-aggressive extra pass which leads to turnovers. That and watch the breakdown.

I'm nervous as feic, I woke up about 3/4 times during the night (not all due to the match but partially due to nerves I would imagine!).
There is going to be a lot of shoite posted on here in the coming hours. But I will say hope both sides have a great day and to the fans, respect eachother, 2 quite good sides we've got here, enjoy your Guinness or Beamish and Murphy's (our stout is better than yours...............)
Have a good one y'all, I will apologise for flying off the handle later on now!
About 5 hours and two minutes till you have to close that thread Duty. Good luck to you sir, hope you enjoy the game, although not too much

I've heard people bringing up Ireland's record v England in Ireland during the week and I've told them it doens't matter a jot. Around 5/6 of this side have gone to Lansdowne and won (Pre-WC game) and added to that spanking last year, then these lads will have no fear, which should hopefully make for a tight game and hopefully a good one (not like Wlaes v France yesterday as that was boring as hell!)

Both games yesterday were pretty boring, especially when compared with week 1. I hope the Dublin rain doesn't turn this into a borefest, when there is so much potential.

I just hope both sides play their best. If that means England are good enough to beat Ireland then grand. If not we will know where to improve.

Hopefully with the rain, the spectators will see Ireland using the 15 man lineout strategy to get past the England gainline.

Really? Normally i'd agree with that but not sure it helps this team if it's constantly trying to move the point of attack as in the last couple of games. I reckon Ireland by about 10, but fingers crossed!

Just about to head out. that dense drizzley rain that seems light but soaks you.
Best of luck all.
Hopefully it will be just a bit too toon for an England side on the rise. And Ireland can get another bit out of the lonfest centre pairing in test rugby.

I can't really work out who it will favour more to be honest. Certainly would have been England in the past but they seem to be playing a different game now. I do hope you're right though ER.

Good teams play good rugby regardless of the weather, it may change a few tactics but both sides have to deal with it. It's not an excuse that either side can make.

I have full confidence in England's ability to win the game in a forward-oriented manner. That means kicking for territory, dominating the set-piece, and, most importantly, taking your chances when they come. Rain will not hinder England in their quest for Grand Slam glory. 1 hour 55 minutes to go!

This game is key. It will probably define this year's 6Ns in the appropriation of the final spoils.
It would be a tragedy if the game is spoilt by the weather. The refereeing must be top class.

The referee is Jérôme Garcès, who appears to be rather inexperienced with regards to International rugby.

I don't care much about the experience Duty.
There's a tendency for highly experienced refs to 'get involved' too much and showboat a bit.
And that includes when they get benched to the touchline.

It's probably just that these are the only two teams who can possibly get a GS and after this game (providing there is not a draw) only one will have the GS to aim at.

Noone aims for a GS though, they aim to win their next game!!
A GS is just a culmination of dominance over the other 5 teams, talking GS at round 2 is just highlighting who won the week before!!
England have played a flat Scottish team at Twickers and everyone talks GS from then on?
Although I made England slight fav's before the tourny (and I mean slight) I think a touch of perspective is needed, the winner of this game will be 40% way through the tournament both with at least 2 tough games to play and an away game to boot!!!
IMHO the winner today is just the slight front runner, but we havn't reached the bend yet!!

Me too cyril, and I mean it when I say I wish both teams the best
I am having to go meet the missus from the airport and hit the nearest pub (with an Irish girl probably dressed head to toe in Ireland/Leinster gear) so if I don't make it beyond this afternoon bye guys, it's been fun!

Can't wait.
His BODliness has also just become a father today so hopefully he's gonna have another reason for it to be a day to remember!
Nerves kicking in.

Supposedly BOD has been wandering round Lansdowne today with a huge grin on his face... Hopefully it's still there come 5 o'clock.
As if he needed any other reason to want to beat England though...

If I was BOD I'd be walking about Lansdowne with a smile on my face every day!

Should be a great match, good luck to both sides (more to England). Let's show the Welsh and French how a match of rugby should be played, eh?

The BODaughter has arrived sooner than expected then? That's great news and what dedication the Proud Da's starting this afternoon. I hope he has an awesome game. He'll certainly have a spring in his step.
Mon Ireland!
Hope the game's a good one and there's no injuries to anyone. Please!
