Not sure if this was worthy of an article, but OK...
Serious cruise control/practice match/first gear attitude from Federer. Really strolling. Poor from De Bakker.

Very poor from de Bakker, indeed. Benneteau up next.

Just never made it out of first gear.
Let us see if Sijsling can continue his run after taking Tsonga out. to see stands empty though.

Rotterdam was changed from a Fast court to a slower court. Use the off button when necessary.

Benne can life hard for Federer. Del Potro has two tough ones. Nieminen in not playing that badly. Baggy/Dimi will be interesting.

This court looks pretty quick to me and the tennis looks like 1999 just awful stuff all around.

I counted many a rally of 10+ shots in Klizan-Sijsling match on a so called fast court.
It is to see folks being unable to return a 214kmph serve from Gulbis down the T, oh but wait, it was Del Potro at 6'6" unable to return serve, the same Del Potro who won an Olympic Medal on Grass, IIRC?
10 shots between Baggy-Gasquet at 6-3, 2-1, 40-15 (re-run). Is your Tennis Channel on?

Every big four against average player match will be awful stuff. Djokovic vs De Bakker at Australian Open won't be more enjoyable than this match at Rotterdam. Nothing to do with fast courts.

15-shot rally on the same court between Bachinger v Nieminen second set 3-2 in the sixth game.

Even by the low standards you described this match was particularly boring. Federer did not do anything particularly fun to watch either

Agree...agricultural tennis from the likes of De Bakker or Granollers is unappealing no matter what surface you stick them on. It's amazing how highly effective pro tennis players can be so boring to watch...

I got it recording at home LF. But I think people should watche these faster tournaments, dubai, rotterdam, cincy, paris etc. and see if they prefer the points and the play to the slower hardcourts. I personally have found these tournaments and the style of play to be among the worst on tour.

Rotterdam is not a fast court.. Medium at best. It's just indoors removes the elements and allows more aggression. Watch Cinci for fast courts and it's beautiful tennis.

Cincy is usually an awful tournament ruffin, hardly what I call beautiful tennis. Players dying in the humidity and withdrawals all over the place as everyone wants to be in NY.
What do you think about my idea of moving cincy up to two weeks after wimby and playing it on grass, like the US grass court championship. I go to Indian Wells most years, and I feel like Cincy would be helped by being unique and having a change of scheduling as well.

It would be great to have the 5th slam be played on grass.

Re: Federer v De Bakker @Rotterdam
Please cincy being the fifth slam is pretty funny. With all due respect in attendance, prize money, and ratings it is pretty hard to compete with Indian Wells right now. First masters of the year as well, and the men and women compete together. If anything is the 5th slam it is the masters final in london, and if anything is the 6th slam it is Indian wells. Cincy isn't even the leading masters in the USA, clearly 3rd to IW and Miami.

I think even though Benne lost at W it was a win in a way because he doesn't fear him anymore. To be fair, he's a very decent player.
Looks like Baby-Fed is starting to come of age...one of the better players to watch.

laverfan. I get the impression that you quite enjoy it when either Federer or Nadal lose. Are you not a fan of the Fedal era?
I have just seen the result. And using the words of IMBL what a load of "Frak Poopie" (although I doubt if IMBL would use these particular words about this particular match). But maybe it's no big loss. Has any decent player ever won in Rotterdam? Also I liked Rogers shirt...

Re: Federer v De Bakker @Rotterdam
Strange post there from you there laverfan. Bit like something from one of the part-time tennis "fans" who pop up from time to time from other forums.
Anyway, moving on ........well played Bennetteau. He's produced enough good form recently to show that he can take a big scalp on a good day, even though his overall career record has hardly sparkled. All credit
The Federer serve seemed to have stayed at his hotel room rather than on the court, the stats were so much worse than in his earlier rounds - but again that could be partly down to Benne.
Only the other day I said that it would be nigh on impossible to defend the mass of points he accumulated in the first half of last year. In the whole of 2012 he only failed to make semis or better on two occasions, but already in February he's looking vulnerable.
These are just the sort of losses I am convinced will begin to feature with more than just occasional frequency as has almost always been the case to date.

Right! Neil Harman is really getting on my nerves now. This is what he has just tweeted
Julien Benneteau really ought to have beaten The Fed at Wimbledon last summer. He is playing some special tennis in Rotterdam right now
https://twitter.com/neilharmantimes
It doesn't take three guesses to figure out why he wishes that Wimbledon result could be different. And it has nothing to do with how "special" he thinks Benneteau is. In fact quite the opposite...Noticed he's also been annoying Djokovic fans today for similar reasons. Pfft!

damn it you guys ruined my DVR viewing once I get off work. Oh well I will certainly watch the fed benny match now! Good work for Benny, he is a very elegant and talented player should have beat fed at wimby frankly this is at least a small amount of compensation for that. Nothing like starting the weekend with a fed loss in a tournament he won last year, Novak sits at home and watches his points lead grow. If I didn't have a the watered down version of the hanta virus I would bust open the mac!
