London Welsh could face points penalty ...buy shares in their law firm now!

Apparently they have fielded an ineligible player in several Jeff games.
The prior cases saw Tigers and Sale docked one point for fielding a player in one game....this could have serious consequences for LWs relegation battle.
Expect their legal team to be all over this if it does decide their fate at the end of the season. Oh dear oh dear.

Its probably right that some form of compromise that avoids the courts is being sought. But I think it is important - and fair - to Welsh, Sale, Irish and possibly Worcester to reach a decision as quickly as possible. Teams might make different decisions pending their location in the table.

If London Welsh go to the courts they should be thrown out of the RFU and they can play in a Welsh League (4th Region?) - I believe they are also affiliated to the WRU.
I had a certain sympathy for them over the promotion issue - if not the timing - as they could have taken it to court long before they were promoted and clarified the position for the benefit of all the Championship sides.
But on this issue, regardless of the activities of a single member of staff the club as a whole must take responsibility and suck it up whatever comes out of the appeal, the RFU took the mitigation into account in the initial judgement and the appeal comittee will do the same. Your employee mucked up, your problem, your punishment - they've changed corporate liability law to cover exactly this issue, when the people running a company have got off the hook blaming a "rouge" member of staff for a corporate failure they now have to take at least part of the blame.
If Welsh could not employ enough people to adminsiter the club backstage then it's their issue. There's enough people on 606 who live in London who know that they could have got a couple of contract admin staff to assist in the day to day running of the club for around £20k a year and some free match tickets.

Breaking News is that LW have effectively lost their appeal.
5pt penalty and £15k fins stands. (suspended 5pts removed)

Well that's some sensible news. Anybody think it's actually over yet?

As it was an independent appeal panel (http://www.sportresolutions.co.uk) not sure where London Welsh would go next with this case.
However with reference to your other thread, yes I can see them suing PRL for failure to provide funding in line with other clubs. Of course should they then get relegated they may be robbing Peter to pay Paul (a consequence would probably see parachute payments scrapped).

Who'd have thought that imbalanced parachute payments, marketable P shares, EPS fund distribution, occluded marquee payments, wage caps etc. [ed] etc. would ever have become an issue?
Golly gee!

Lawyers always make money.
I heard an ambulance chaser on the radio today explaining why a new policy would be good for patient care. Of course what he really meant was good for his bank balance as it would encourage litigation.
So yeah, don't sell those shares just yet.

Could the Beeb have found a less flattering photograph of this lad?

ekshully Mrs P, I've always thought that the Beeb articles have pictures that have the players in question gurning or some othe non-photogenic activity.
I've always put it down to the researcher or whoever is involved in sourcing these photo's either has a weird sense of humour or just hates rugby.
