Good that you set this up Nick
Whilst the Surrey bias represents our contributors, if the section is going to improve we need similar discussion for all the counties.

Welcome to the county threads, Nick.
Your starter for ten. What's your view on the Surrey cast offs Hamilton-Brown and Jordan that Sussex have recently landed?

Its good to see Hamilton-Brown return, he has grown up and improved his all round game at Surrey. He will be useful to come in at number 3, now that Murray Goodwin has left. Also he adds something different to the one day games.
Chris Jordan im hoping will be a good signing. He reminds me of when we signed Luke Wright for the first time.

Re: The Official Sussex County Cricket Club Thread
Sussex will do well if they can turn Chris Jordan into a prominent member of the first team. With rare exceptions he never really got going again for Surrey after his major injury. He had had quite a lot of opportunities so it was clearly best for Surrey and for him to move and see if a change would help.
RHB has been through a pretty traumatic and - I would expect - sobering experience. After a good start as captain he didn't cover himself with glory in the latter stages - looks as tho he lacked the maturity to handle the pressure and act as a role model over a longer period. No doubt he is talented batsman and with a little bit more consistency could well turn into one of Sussex's top two or three batsmen.

325,000 loss has been confirmed.
I know we missed 2 money makers last year due to the dreaded weather. Our 3 day tourest game against the West Indeas was washed out as was our 4 day televised game against Lancashire. The loss could of been even worse, had it not been for a home t20 quater finals which makes a lot of cash.

John Hastings has signed for the t20.
Seems Luke Wright was a lot to thank for this going through, playing with Hastings at the big bash league and i understand he was really trying to get him to come to Hove. Seems he has, he will be a big hit im sure down here.

I was puzzled to see the headline on BBC: Hastings to join Sussex. I had thought my knowledge of British geography was quite reasonable...

Well it was fun whilst it lasted, but Hastings is no longer joining us for t20 due to injury. Be interesting to see who Sussex go for now. Wouldn't mind seeing us try and sign Umar Gull again.

Naved is ok, but he isn't what he use to be. Gul wasn't that bad tbh.
If it gets to a week or so before the t20 begins, then i think we should just sign Rana.

Steyn is on the market, but only for a certain price. I somehow suspect that price is more than Hastings would have been paid. That said, its surely worth the risk.

Andrew Miller has signed a one year deal after impressing on trial. Released by Warwickshire in the summer, hope he can be a decent signing! Don't think we really need anymore seamers though.

Yardy won't bat at 5, apart from that it looks good. Is Wright away in the IPL at the moment?
Re: The Official Sussex County Cricket Club Thread
Yes mate he is away as is Prior. Also Amjad Kahn is injured and not expected back till late May i believe.

Re: The Official Sussex County Cricket Club Thread
Nick - I know Miller was signed from Warks but, other than that, know very little about him. Does he bat at all? If not or not much, I wonder if Jordan might edge him out.
There's some talent with Jordan but baggage as well. Not least, he bowls too many no balls and has had a lot of troubles with injuries in the last few years. Important season for him.

Guildford - Miller's batting average is about 6 from 26 first class innings. So I doubt that he would be an ideal No 8 batsman in any county side.

Re: The Official Sussex County Cricket Club Thread
Thanks, Corporal. I certainly wasn't aware of Miller being any sort of batsman and that goes a long way to proving it. As I suggested earlier, Jordan isn't without risks but he could be a better bet - certainly at No 8.

Re: The Official Sussex County Cricket Club Thread
The 13 man squad includes those named by Nick, plus Jordan and Liddle. Neither Liddle nor Miller look like world beaters in the first class game, so Jordan may well get a chance to make an early impact.

Fantastic start by Sussex!
Yorkshire 40-4

Sussex's season could well depend on the avaliabity of Panesar...hove does produce dry wickets and should spin there...
If monty is avaliable all season then sussex should have a good season, however with Swann's problems with his elbow, then he could be with England. which does leave quite a hole in the sussex attack..

Chris Nash getting his 50 up
Sussex 81-1.
Superb from Sussex!!!!
But i do agree with what CF is saying about Monty. Only other spinners of note are youngsters Will Beer and Micheal Rippon. Chris Nash always does a job with a ball though, but could be a lot of pressure though.

Excellent day for Sussex. Jordan takes 6 wickets - so the stage is set for RHB to score a century tomorrow....
Surrey supporters will be most interested to see how Jordan gets on. He really did have a good many chances at Surrey and it only rarely clicked. Some searching questions to be asked of Surrey management if he replicates today's performance regularly....

Yorkshire finished the day 228-8
Steve Maggofin took 4-50.
Ryan Sidebottom and Gary Ballance got a frustrating partnership going. Ballance is still at the crease unbeaten on 46. Sidebottom went for 48.
Final day tomorrow, match can easily be won, just hope the weather is kind.

Good start for Sussex. I think a lack of depth in the seam attack might prevent them from going all of the way, but they should be safely mid-table.

I don't think we have a lack of depth at all. Andrew Miller, Chris Liddle and Amjad Kahn weren't even in the squad against Yorkshire!

Re: The Official Sussex County Cricket Club Thread
True. Although Miller is an unknown quantity and Liddle more of a one-day bowler. Magoffin is good and Anyon a bit underrated. Based on previous form, I'd be surprised if Chris Jordan kept that form up all year though.
Its a stronger seam attack than Notts and probably Derbyshire. But I can't compare it to those at Yorkshire, Middlesex and Warwickshire at this stage.
Of course, Sussex do have the best spinner in the division and one of the stronger batting line-ups.

Re: The Official Sussex County Cricket Club Thread
I agree that if Jordan keeps that form up all season it would be a big surprise.
Though its good to see him doing well, I felt he was on the verge of breaking through at Surrey just before that back injury which kept him out for a year, he was never quite the same after that.
Back injurys for fast bowlers are never good look at Tremlett he's never fit but I wish Jordan all the best it would be great if he had a good injury free seaon!!

Surrey finish on 301-7
Fantastic evening session for the Sharks, keeps this match very interesting. Morning session is going to be very interesting tomorrow for sure.
Gary Wilson batted very well for Surrey hitting 124. Solanki also made 51, didn't realize he had joined Surrey! Either that or i forgot!
James Anyon has been bowling very today and is the pick of the Sussex bowlers taking 3-69.
Game on tomorrow, GOSBTS!!!!
