Re: The Official Sussex County Cricket Club Thread
I was at the Oval today.
Generally a good performance from the Sussex bowlers. The 3 seamers all bowled particularly well with the new ball in both the opening and final sessions. Great ball from Anyon to dismiss Smith early on.
Panesar was unlucky to remain wicketless and was probably a bit unfortunate to be bowling when the Surrey batsmen had their concentration levels on maximum.

Guildford - I see Jordan only bowled 1 no ball, although 2 - 80 @ 4 an over is perhaps reverting more towards the kind of stats he produced for Surrey. He's certainly getting plenty of opportunity to show what he can do.

Corporal - I think Jordan's figures suffered when Wilson and Solanki really got going in the afternoon session. He did bowl a couple of wides (if I recall correctly) to go with his no ball but generally was far more on the money than he was with us last season.
The real no ball culprit was Anyon who bowled a couple in the last over of the day to get our 300 up and give us a 3rd batting point.

Surrey all out for 351.
Gary Wilson hit 124. However some superb bowling from Chris Jordan 5-92. What a signing he appears to be!
Sussex finished the day on 204-2. With Luke Wells unbeaten on 108. England call up soon for him me thinks.

You think? He is highly thought of but an average of just over 30 that would fall to about 20 if you took away games against Surrey suggests he has some way to go yet. Being an opener helps his cause though I guess.

Wells isn't very close at the moment. I've liked the look of him when I've watched him bat a couple of times but realistically there are probably 30 players ahead of him in the queue.

Agree with Shelsey, Wells is still a while off being called up to the England squad.
The batting this season looks strong and the bowling is working... darkhorses?

Definitely dark horses. Almost all pundits have gone with mid-table, which in a nine-team division amounts to sitting on the fence. I suppose the question is whether there is quite the depth/quality in the seam bowling to force victories on the relatively flat surfaces sometimes produced at Hove. If they can do that, and then let Monty loose in August and September, they have a real chance.

Re: The Official Sussex County Cricket Club Thread
So Sussex all out for 526. Wow simply wow. Superb batting. Luke Wells hitting 208. Very big year for him i think this year, just needs to continue working hard and producing magic like that. Not letting it be a one innings wonder. Matt Prior getting 62 doing the usual shift he does for England, which has made him one of England's key players. Finally Ed Joyce who is proving to be a great skipper so close to hitting his 100 but went for 98.
Surrey finished on 66-1 with Graham Smith at the crease on 43. Steve Maggofin finished on 1-17. Early wickets the cry tomorrow, if we want any chance of winning. But i see this match finishing as a draw.

Anyone want a free ticket or two for Sussex v Worcs in the YB40 this Sunday?
It's a sellout but I have a couple spare.

Warwickshire finished the day on 276-4
Jon Trott unbeaten on 87, which i guess is good to see with the ashes getting ever so nearer.
Chris Jordan finished the day on 2-45. Surely not another 5 wicket haul

Re: The Official Sussex County Cricket Club Thread
I actually think that's a very impressive day's return from Jordan. He appears to have stuck at it through 20 overs in the day, kept it pretty tight (going at 2.25 per over) and got his wickets in his last 2 overs of the day. All this against a high quality batting side who were on top throughout the proceedings although never allowed to run away with it.NickisBHAFC wrote:Warwickshire finished the day on 276-4

I think that in similar circumstances for Surrey he would have gone at around 4.5 per over and gifted his opponents a few no balls (he didn't bowl one today). I doubt that he would have been trusted with more than 14 or 15 overs in the day. I suspect today is the only time he's bowled as many as 20 overs in the day.
I'm still not convinced Jordan's form will last but I admit that so far I'm impressed.

End of Day 2
Warwickshire finishing the day on 453 all out. Jon Trott top scoring on 96.
Chris Jordan finished on figures 4-73. Another superb bit of bowling from him, long may it continue!
Sussex finished the day on 129-1
Luke Wells unbeaten on 76. Surely not another 200! Really hope he even gets a lions call up this summer!!!

End of day 3
Sussex finished the day on 416-7. Superb batting from the sharks against a good bowling attack.
Luke Wells went for 96. But another one of our very talented players Ben Brown is unbeaten on 82. Really hope Ben can get his 100, he has had a fantastic start to the season.
Looking like a draw, but another superb Sussex performance.

Good win against Northants in the pro 40. Vital we got the win after Sunday's disaster
Chris Nash hitting 95, him and Joyce saving the batting innings. After a disaster start.
Prior, Wells and RHB all extremely disappointing with the bat.
Chris Jordan took 3-20. More great bowling from him. Thanks a lot Surrey
Big game away at Warwickshire on Sunday, going to be a very tough game as i fancy them to win the whole thing.

A lot of play interrupted by the bluddy rain today
Sussex did win the toss and chose to bowl first, agree with skipper Joyce on that one.
Derbyshire finished on 158-6. Steve Maggofin returned from injury and took 2-37. Great to have him back. Whilst Tim Madsen hit 63 for Derbyshire.
Hopefully there will be more cricket on show tomorrow and hopefully Sussex can dismiss Derbyshire before Lunch.

End of day 2
Managed to dismiss Derbyshire for 223. Tim Madsen top scored on 63. Some good bowling from James Anyon he took 3-56. He is a very under rated cricketer IMO.
A dodgy start to the batting innings, but the sharks finished on 322-8. Fantastic day for Mike Yardy, currently unbeaten on 115. Great for him, after a tough season last year, this will do his confidence no harm. A lot of people in the game tweeting there congratulations to him i understand today. So decent batting from Sussex, game still very much open.
Word on Chris Jordan, more wickets for him today and he even hit 92. He can Bat aswell!!!! Thank you very much for this signing Surrey

Sussex all out for 401, so we get the extra batting bonus points. Mike Yardy hit 153. Superb batting from him, hope he really has got his head back in the game and he goes onto to having a sucessfull season. Dropping the captaincy could of been the best thing for him.
Derbyshire ended on 189-7. James Anyon took 2-28. Sussex have a great chance to win the game tomorrow, lets just hope the wickets come and the weather is kind on us!!!

What an amazing 1st day for Sussex at Horsham today
Somerset all out for 76. Steve Maggofin taking an amazing, unbelievable record of 8-20. Just amazing, i couldn't believe my eyes when i saw the scorecard!!! He is probably the best bowler in county cricket atm.
Sussex finished the day on 298-9. Rory Hamilton Brown, who hasn't had much luck at the crease this season hit 77. Superb bit of a morale boost for him and hopefully his form will pick up from here!

more wickets for Jordan today... looks like an absolutely crushing win for Sussex in 2 days unless the rain intervenes to prolong it to a 3rd day!
Sussex's signing of Jordan is looking more and more astute as each day goes by .... Sorry NickisBHAFC... even though I've lived in Sussex for 10+ years now...both my head and heart are still with Surrey!!! (although it is very good to see Sussex doing well...and especially if they are crushing one of our potential relegation rivals...

Fantastic win Never expected us to win in under 2 days of play! I guess my planned vist to Horsham on Saturday isn't happening now
Steve Maggofin with just an amazing performance of 12-31.
Really do fancy us for a genuine title challenge now!!!
COME ON YOU SHARKS!

Fantastic win for Sussex yesterday against Kent!
222-9. I didn't think would be enough, but credit to Mike Yardy for hitting 42 and Chris Jordan who played a big part in the innings by getting 37. Yardy seems to have got his head straight now and dropping the captaincy really has helped.
James Anyon took 2-14, including a rare one day madeon. Hope he stays in the team now, he rarely plays one day games but i personally think he should.
I think Nottinghamshire will win the group, but getting that 2nd spot is do-able which could get us into the semi's.

Rubbish defeat, thats probably our pro 40 season over.

So Nottinghamshire finished the opening day on 321-8 with Samit Patel innings very frustrating for the sharks. Hiting 157.
Superb bowling from Chris Jordan yet again 5-83. Give him an England call up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Best bowler in county cricket at the moment.

Re: The Official Sussex County Cricket Club Thread
We had a bit of debate on 'Jordan for England' on DEC yesterday. My view is that less than 2 months into the season its a bit premature. However, when he's opening the bowling and going well he is certainly a prospect and if he keeps this form up all year must be nailed on for at least the Lions this winter.

Re: The Official Sussex County Cricket Club Thread
I can't believe that Jordan's form - and allied to that, his fitness - will last.
I keep expecting his next return to be around 0-65 - including half a dozen no balls - from 9 overs but he keeps proving me wrong.
All very odd. It wasn't as if Surrey didn't rate him. They did and they certainly gave him opportunities which largely weren't taken. Questions are now starting to be asked about Surrey's coaching - in particular, how come he's only really prospered away from the Oval?
I can't answer that although it does perhaps show once more that cricket is not an exact science. Certainly Jordan's success so far this season is doing nothing to improve Adams' credibility with his many critics as Surrey continue to under achieve.

Sussex have always been a county cricket club with little money but have always been praised for the superb coaching and whole set up down at Hove. Hence the superb success in all formats since 2005. RHB when he first joined Sussex we improved him as a player and we look to be doing the same with Chris Jordan. A lot of Sussex fans are saying Jordan is the next Robin Martin Jenkins.

Nottinghamshire all out for 356. Sir Chris Jordan taking figures of 6-97. Superb bowling from him. Samit Patel hit 157.
Sussex all out this morning for 306. Ed Joyce hit 59 as did Luke Wells but that's not enough.
50 runs were trailing by, however i can only see this match ending as a draw. But if we can get some early wickets you never know!

End of day 3. Strong Chance that someone will win tomorrow, Nottinghamshire probably favorites. Ill imagine they will build on there 354 lead, which is way
out of our reach,
Steve Maggofin took figures of 4-60. Including getting Lumb out early again. James Taylor had a good innings which is good to see, really like him and want him back in the England picture again soon.
GOSBTS!

Sussex managed to avoid defeat against Nottinghamshire today
Superb batting from Ben Brown helped. Getting his 50 up and putting on a good partnership with super Chris Jordan near the end. Ben Brown really has come on as a player and i can actually see him one day leading the county out.
Days rest, then its off to Lords on Wednesday for the start of another big county championship game.
