Mac, you are pathetic. Tinpot poll and you have a petted bottom lip just like your hero.

Don't you know that the top two go through?

Mac i would boycott that poll, its clear these people dont understand the genius of Tiger. He was being out-voted by an ice hockey player yesterday.

Gretsky is the undisputed GOAT of his sport, whilst Nine Chins is just an indisputable tw@t with a stupid name. No contest.

I don't mind Gretzky winning that one to be honest. At least he truly is a modern great. The Johnson thing was a bit ridiculous - he's even beating Jack Nicklaus in a group today!

It's just a popularity contest, Woods would have breezed that group in 2009. He revolutionized a mainstream sport like few others have.

Mac

Give us a bit of credit. In other words, we'll vote for whom we think is the best of that group. For me, it's Gretsky. Sorry.

looks like nicklaus has pulled it back...

personally i think it would be good for the competition if a modern great actually won. judging by the voting patterns so far, it looks unlikely to be anyone outside pele or ali. federer has probably the best shout of the current bunch, but it would be nice to see Gretzky take the title and blow the cobwebs off all the rose tinted glasses out there who cant see past the names pele and ali.

no he used to play hurling for kilkenny, and would also be considered the GOAT of his sport.

Well then he's more of a GOAT than 9 Chins then, who certainly isn't THE goat of his sport.

Honestly, if someone has to plead with people for votes then they can't be that great in the first place.

Well Hurling is a minority sport played only by a few hundred bombslingers, but if we are talking GOAT by strict definition, then this person is more of a GOAT than Woods.

Anyway Hurling is hardly comparable with Gretsky in a sport like Ice Hockey.

More people play ping pong than play golf. So if you are the Ping pong GOAT you're better than Baldy who isn't even the Golf GOAT.

Pretty disgusting in reality and an indictment that the British public consider Golf and Cricket to be "sports" suitable enough in which to draw an overall sporting GOAT from.

i expected nicklaus to make the last 8 by default. b9c just snuck in. the last 8 is as far as both will go, but about right i'd say given the competition. for all golf's loss of yardage in the athletic terms it more than makes up with technical skill and mental fortitude to be up there with the great sports in my opinion.

looks like federer, pele, ali and bradman for the semis. bradman will fall short of a place in the final for sure, but federer could be a dark horse.

think its head-to-head semis then final - i can't see where the proposal has gone but pretty sure mttc was keen to have a head-to-head final. a lot will count on the draw. presumably group toppers will play opposite group runnersup. could be a bit of stooshy from the rose-tinted brigad if ali draws pele in the semis. personally i think federer would have a good chance against either. he would be my choice, even though he's annoyingly smug.

Nicklaus has an arguably tougher draw against Federer and Ali. Woods is up against Pele and Bradman. Bradman looks like he'll progress, but will get thwumped by whoever he faces in the Semi's - as would Woods.
