One of the highlights of the whole competition for me. The ongoing battle between Oakey and SR regarding Woods.
Anyway this one is between Phelps and Pele for me.

Its SR's nickname only. But some of us on the forum use it now as well.
Sr reckons Woods has 9 chins when he smiles- You now like a dude with a chubby face would have.

Oakey, I can't think that because the miserable curmudgeon never smiles.
He's got a fat chin which I think is a precursor to him blowing up like his fat old man.

Thats stupid, its not like hes fat like John Daley.
Tiger Woods always had a big following down here in NZ, because he used to have a Kiwi caddy. Steve Williams. and that is very important.

Sounds like a very tenuous link. Trying too hard to get a bit of reflected glory because some Kiwi chump carried a bag for someone.

Not as tenuous as deciding the Greatest Of All Time by the number of their chins they might have.

I don't think Woods is a GOAT though because carrying a golf bag is more athletic than playing the game itself, although he does have multiple chins.
Perhaps Steve Williams is more of a GOAT than Nine Chins?

To back the kiwis up here mate.
They are very very good a sports on a pro rata level.(check out there medal counts in the oylimpics!)
Add to that they have a legendary sporting team in the all blacks.
If we had a GOAT sports team. They would be up there!
But when it comes to the high profile big earning sports like tennis, golf, football, nfl, baseball, basketball, f1 etc etc they dont really feature

Realist.
Presuming your a Scotsman, and telling us how bad NZ sport is, then tell us how many times has Scotland beaten New Zealand at rugby in the last 130 odd years.

Perhaps Mysti, rather pathetic though that a man employed to carry a bag and replace divots earns more than NZ rowers, Rugger players or any other sports they might have representation in.

Auckland, don't be so defensive, it isn't a personal attack. However, I don't care for SCottishness, it's merely an accident of birth.
As for the egg chucking, it's the national sport of NewZealand and has thousands of players, Scotlands even at Amateur level are numbered in the hundreds.
Using one sport as a reason for justifying NZ sporting pedigree is scraping the barrel a bit though.

Auckland, I've got relations all over the UK, there's no reason to be an isolationist. Ever since I was old enough to know I've never liked Scottish Nationalism or Scottishness.
I've never been proud of Scotland, Scottishness or anything related. It's a nice place to live, but that's it.

Re: v2 G.O.A.T The Last 8 Group 2
To my mind Pele and Bradman are the standout candidates from this group. In a sport with a very long history Bradman towers over the field in a way that none of the likes of, for example, Woods, Nicklaus or Federer -do, even though all they are worthy of a place in the latter stages of the competition.
Pele likewise in my view is the obvious choice as the stand out candidate from football. (Although he is not in this group I simply couldn't contemplate Maradonna as GOAT, brilliant tho he was at times, for character reasons.)

Struggle to view golf and cricket as sports, see them of more of a past time...
Think pele is somewhat overrated and always had a soft sport for Johnson so went for him, fully aware he will lose miserably though.

Ive never understood why they dont just get rid of Ireland, Scotland and Wales and call it all England? Isnt the Queen the Queen of England anyway, she could cover the other countries at the same time.

Why don't they get rid of New Zealand and call it Australia....or even just call them both England. Makes sense to me 26,000 miles away. It's probably all just wasteland full of rejects anyway.

It's only cold in winter, but then so is here, it certainly isn't miserable. Walk down any street in Oslo, Copenhagen or Malmo and compare the glum faces you see in London, Glasgow etc and it isn't all that expensive either, Britain is hardly cheap, perhaps a bit more to visit, but not to live if you are employed there. Norway/Denmark/Sweden are continually voted as the best places to live.
