v2 G.O.A.T The Final
First topic message reminder :
After two months of competition, over 2500 votes, over 5500 comments, a voting scandal, a restarted format and the Gavin Hastings situation, the v2 GOAT has come to its climax with the final matchup of the tournament today to decide who the v2 posters will crown their greatest of all time.
Yesterday’s two semi-finals were two of the most closely contested matches of the tournament with football, tennis, cricket and boxing represented in the final four, in match 1 Mohammed Ali took on Don Bradman and with the voting neck and neck for the majority of the day it was eventually the self-proclaimed greatest of all time that took the initiative and became the first entrant to secure his spot in the final. In the second match grand slam champion Roger Federer took on two time world cup winner Pele, in another intriguing battle that was extremely close all day neither man could establish a lead of any note, eventually Federer sealed his spot in the final by just two votes finishing on 44 to Pele’s 42.
Bradman exits the competition defeating Zinedine Zidane, and Harry Greb in round 1, Daley Thompson, Brain Lara and Eddy Merckx in round 2, Sugar Ray Robinson and Usain Bolt in the last 16 , Michael Phelps, Tiger Woods and Michael Johnson in the last 8.
Pele’s scalps include Michael Schumacher, Stephen Hendry, Phil Taylor, Martina Navratilova and Wayne Gretzky.
Today’s final sees a clash of styles, generation and sports as boxing takes on tennis to decide the v2 G.O.A.T
Ali vs. Federer and emancipator vs 6oldenbhoy in the battle of the GOAT champions
Please vote for the v2 G.O.A.T

I think if you spent less time looking for reasons to be offended you wouldn't be so angry all the time

I think it was the chisora brawl, arguing about who was at fault. I think Mystir contended it was fake and set up and then managed to urine nearly everyone off that was an awesome thread, everyone became lawyers judges, pacifists right wing left wing. Then everyone pouring fuel onto the fire. Oxring, Union, we started copying law and interpreting it, then copying german law, consulting german based posters. Haye had legged it from germany and chisora had been taken into custody. No one knew where haye was.
Re: v2 G.O.A.T The Final
Ah that reminds me of Chris Dior the supposed lawyer who copied case law off of wikipedia.

Doesn't sound like the boxing board shah, load of ego's willy waving and taking ourselves a bit seriously. Sure it was us, not some other board in a distant universe?

This is real easy.
A contact sport versus a noncontact sport, for the courage factor alone the boxer is miles ahead of any tennis player.
Ali is the greatest.
46 votes to 43 is pretty close.

Miles ahead because these people punch each other
All I know is that I would rather have been a tennis player, anyone of my family and friends as well!!
Tennis incoropartes ubber skillz, and the best get to match up against the best all the time.. Tennis is a very competetive sport. Boxing is a gangster controlled money spinner at the moment.
I am not a hater of boxing by the way. But it doesnt seem to be run the way it could be.

Auckers, did you cut and paste that insightful and imaginative comment from the last round...and the one before that...and the one before that...and the one before that...and the one before that...or are you just making use of the 'signature' function the site provides?

Thank you Barragan for reading my posts, I take it as a compliment, however you appear to have missed my previous post relating to Ali and Federer, and it went something along the lines of:
Ali has appeared three times on the cover of Time magazine (once as Cassius Clay).......
Federer Never. he has no legacy, he has no history.

Re: v2 G.O.A.T The Final
Oakey not sure how you can watch any Ali, mayweather, leonard fights for example and think that the sport doesnt require bags of skill as well.
I believe the amount of athletesism required to fight twelve rounds is under appreciated at times too. If you go on to the boxing boards check out unions archive.
Ive seen many tennis matches in my time that have been extremely boring as I have seen many fights that have been. Many of the early rounds of tennis these days create few shocks.
Anyway this isn't boxing v tennis. This is federer against Ali. So I reiterate if you can not make Roger a favourite on clay against an opponent from his own era he can not be the GOAT of allsports for me. As oimpressive as he is

Spence dont spin this. I havent said boxing doesnt require skillz.
Aso Aucks was the one to compare the two sports. And tbh there is nothing wrong with that. Even if I dont agree with his sentiment and outcome. Because lets be honest saying a fighting or contact sport has to be better than any other is a bit basic..

Re: v2 G.O.A.T The Final
I thought the comment about people simply punching one another in the head was over simplifying a great sport.
For every boring fight someone could put forward someone else could put forward a match where someone wins by being tall and able to serve great alone with out a decent all round game. It doesn't make one sport greater or worse than another.
But to say boxing is just gangster run and think tennis has no issues is not right either. As ive stated before all sports have their problems.
I for one dont agree in any sport having a seeding system. Look how great the fa cup os because anyone can draw any one at amy stage. But money rules now a days. Sponsors and organizers fear losing the big names early and that is the only reason we have it

Spencer I mentioned why I rate tennis over boxing. Boxing is curropt. I can not respect it the same way as Tennis. That is my opinion. And my opinion is the honest truth. You dont have to agree.
Its as simple as that.
I didnt say that I rate tennis over boxing due to its non contact element. It was Aucks that rates contact sports over non. Have you got it?

The fact tennis has a variety of surfaces is testament to the diversity of the sport and cannot count against federer in this case - a truly bizzare argument.

And yet having weight divisions is seen as a negative?
Barragan do you not believe that when judging the GOAT in all sports we should not look at this sort of thing? Doesnt matter what size the ring was each fight Ali is still head amd shoulders the number one heavyweight

I used it merely as an example of how Ali is regarded and held in esteem compared to Federer, by being reflected on the cover of a truely International publication.

That to me could be a negative. It means celebrity over sport to me. And therefore brainwashes the world into believing the legend rather than having to see it first hand and/or using proper sporting context.
And of course the older you are - the more chance you have of being on the front cover of a publication!

No Mystir its about respect, its a respect that was earned by performing in Sport to a dimension that made the World stop and admire him in awe. not just the supporters and media within the boxing fraternity.

Aucks its a magazine thats all. Its respect from an editor!
Secondly even if this is somehow the be all and end all(seriously pushing even writing that to be honest)
Ali has been around alot longer. It just boils down to simple maths.

its a completely different context, and doesn't really have a comparable scenario in boxing as far as i can see. The weight divisions are not comparable to different playing surfaces. The closest thing you'll get to that in tennis is the difference between the men and women's game, but again this isn't really a particularly good comparison.

The voting stinks but it is fun to watch. I can just imagine some 35 year old bloke sat in his bedsit, the walls adorned with pictures of a sweaty Swiss man in shorts, furiously creating new accounts to vote for Federer.
Think we could reach 1,000 votes at this rate!
