Black card system to be introduced in Gaelic football.
It looks like cynical misbehaving Gaelic footballers could be in for more severe punishment during matches following GAA’s Annual Congress in Derry. Over two-thrids of delegates have voted in favour of a motion to introduce a black card system in Gaelic football. Motion 4, which focuses on penalising fouls of a cynical nature, was passed by 70.82% of delegates. Players who incur black cards will have to be substituted, but teams who receive more than three black cards will not be allowed to introduce replacements. Any player hit with a black card in three consecutive games will be served with a one-match ban.
Black card offences include:
1. Deliberatively pulling down an opponent.
2. Deliberately tripping an opponent.
3. Deliberately colliding with an opponent.
4. Using abusive or provocative gestures or language to players.
5. Arguing with match official in an aggressive manner.
The new rules look set to be introduced at the start of 2014. What are your thoughts on the new black card? Would footballers benefit from a "sin bin" type of system rather than this black card? Will it reduce incidents of cynical fouling in the game? Should the black card be used in hurling?

In my eyes, it is complete bullshoite! I barely recognise the rules from 5 years ago and the refereeing standard at club level is at a poor enough level already. Its weighted towards big clubs who can afford the 3 quality replacements while smaller clubs can barely get 15 players to begin with. I can't see them being properly implimented and there is a lot of room for interpretation in the 1st 3 points in a contact sport such as gaelic.
As a player I'm not happy and any credibility the people who enforce the rules have was lost when there were 10 percent of the delegates voting against laws to make racism/sectarianism illegal. Ruining the game!

Players will still be cynical, the big counties in particular, the likes of Cork and Dublin have great depth, you're just subbing a lad in so it's not a big deal. A straight sinbin wuld probably have been a better option to be honest. If you're allowed sub a guy, of similar talent (in the case of bigger counties at least) then it doesn't have a major effect at all.

Exactly! It also opens the door for more conning of the referees especially when it comes to smaller clubs/counties who don't have the strength in depth!

If this is their main plan to counteract the defensive dull shoite we have seen the last few years, it won't work. Looking forward to another broing summer of football!
