A record number of players to quit the English Premuership this season.

• At least 27 set to retire this season

• List includes 19 forced to quit through injury

The RPA says at least 27 Premiership players will hang up their boots for good this season, compared with 12 four years ago and 15 in 2010-11. Last season the figure grew to 25 and is still rising.

Of the latest crop of departures, 19 are enforced by injury, with a mere eight succumbing to Old Father Time.

The list includes some truly selfless servants: Richie Baxter, Chris Budgen, Simon Alcott and Kevin Barrett at Exeter Chiefs, Stephen Jones at London Wasps, Lee Mears at Bath, Alex Brown at Gloucester and Shaun Perry at Worcester. All of them have been outstanding ambassadors for a game which grows ever more physically demanding.

Does this mean the shopping carts will be sent down south again?

South, north and East, I am sure. The have already moved West ( George North and Tavis Knoyle)

So we better pucker up, we have already had so many players signing to leave end of this Super rugby season.
