The squad includes Zafar Ansari who is available after finishing his studies at Cambridge University. Steven Davies has recovered from the knee strain that kept him out of the recent Championship game against Warwickshire but Stuart Meaker is unfit for selection.

Cheers, JimBob.
Wild punt on de Bruyn and Tremlett to miss out.
Jewell will be hoping I'm right! Hope he gets another chance tomorrow. He regularly turns out for Guildford in the Ryman league so will get a lot of local support. Also, he deserved more onfield support during Monday's horror show and merits another opportunity for that.

The Brain might well miss out in favour of the equally youthful Azhar Mahmood?

Unconfirmed team news from the ground.
According to the scorecard, Jewell and Mahmood are not playing.

87 - 0 off 11. Cracking start although impossible to tell what will be a winning score here. Very good though that we haven't lost a wkt yet.

Surrey 87 - 0 after 11 overs. Davies playing aggressively. (Curiously, Guildfordbat just beat me to it in giving the 11 over score...)

Davies out to one of the best catches I've ever seen live or on tv.

Re: surrey vs lancashire lightning YB40
Looking at our batting line up there is a good case for the Brain coming in either after Lewis or Tremlett.

Le Roi out for 50. At least, whatever his struggles in batting in the cc he is scoring runs in limited overs.
Scoring rate drops while Punter plays himself in.

139 -3 in the 20th as Ponting is run out by a direct hit.
300 off 40 or 170 all out?

177 -4 Solanki goes. In danger of ending up with a fairly ordinary score.

It was another stunning catch to dismiss Solanki. This time by Katich.
The momentum has rather gone from the batting at the moment.

Re: surrey vs lancashire lightning YB40
Great danger of not using up all our overs. Suppose the Brain can grind 10 off 30!!
We've never looked the same since Davies was first out. Lancs took massive inspiration from that.

220 for 8 with just the Brain, Tremlett and Dernbach to scrape together any more runs.

Re: surrey vs lancashire lightning YB40
Excellent partnership between the Brain and Tremlett brings the score up to 264 - 8. The Brain finishes off with a 6 And ends up with 34 off 26 balls.
Ironically, Ansari, pushed up ahead of him in the order, scored 0 off 10 balls. Perhaps the Brain is better suited to being number 8 or 9 in the order.
In the end a respectable score, that was I would have thought about 30 short of par.

Agree with the Corporal about par score here. However, runs on the board give us a fighting chance. We'll need wkts before long ....

Lancs 127-1 at 20 overs. We have to get Prince out soon to stand any chance.

How much more appallingly bad does de Bruyn have to be to get dropped?

We did but then Kartich took over.guildfordbat wrote:Lancs 127-1 at 20 overs. We have to get Prince out soon to stand any chance.
Really thought we were going to win when Lancs neede 76 off the last 9 with just 5 wkts left. 106 wouldn't have been enough the way Kartich was going at the end.
Just like Monday when Jewell was dropped right in it, felt the experienced frontline bowlers should have been on towards the end rather than the Brain. We could and probably should also have bowled Ansari a bit more earlier in the proceedings.
Exciting partnership between Davies and Roy at the start but the others couldn't fulluy carry it on.
That's it for this competition, I think.

I was surprised too that Ansari only bowled two overs. Although his batting today looked "sub Brain" (judging only by cricinfo), he has previously shown that he's up for bowling in difficult situations.

Re: surrey vs lancashire lightning YB40
With Surrey having played more games than most I think they can now check out of this competition. For some other teams (notably Yorkshire) that has meant chucking a lot of youngsters in - will be interesting to see what Adams does.
Surrey were my pre-season pick to win the YB40 so very disappointing for them to already be out of it before the mid-season break. I'm not sure you stand much chance in the T20 - bowling perhaps not potent enough to compete with the likes of Hants and Sussex in a strong South Group. So clearly the focus must now be on finding some Championship wins

Re: surrey vs lancashire lightning YB40
back home from guildford bloody freezing up there
i thought we was going to win the game until kaitch hit the brain for 5 fours in a row.such a shame as he had batted well and was excellent in the field one stop saving a certain four and getting a faceful of mud for his troubles.this competition has always been about our spinners that have won most of our games to only bowl son of boris twice was shocking with the pace attack being so poor.at the halfway stage i saw spriegs on the outfield how i wished he could have played for us today
