Which round will Federer lose at Halle?
Halle 2013
First topic message reminder :
Nadal has decimated the field, by withdrawing, from Halle.
The tattered remainder of Halle draw looks like
http://www.atpworldtour.com/Share/Event-Draws.aspx?EventId=500&Year=2013
As an aside, the Grass Chewing has now a new pair of COWs (Champions of the Old World) cudding (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cud) together some Doubles.

Daily Schedule - http://www.atpworldtour.com/Scores/Schedule.aspx?EventId=500
Who wants to bet on the next player to beat a certain 17-slam winner?
Will it be Stubby or Wang-waver? Or perhaps the Jerzy COW...

By that I mean it encompasses false hope with fans earmarking him as being in hot form going into Wimbledon, building up the expectations. I say stay grounded and remember this bloke is ranked 156 in the world.
It is never a bad result when you have double bagelled someone. It gives you complete confidence. How does losing by a greater margin help you? That is a logic I keep hearing, and it isn't a logic. Federer is defending champ at Wimb for a good reason.
Perhaps I should have said a bad result for his fans as it brings about false hope/expectation and if/when that isn't delivered the disappointment is greater. And yes I know Federer is defending champion but even his fans will tell you that Roger has deteriorated in areas since he won Wimbledon last year.
I don't think it is as simple as that. This is the first grass tournament he has played since Olympics last year where he made the final. We will see.

Re: Halle 2013
Its getting a bit boring saying "Rock on..." now after every Tommy win given he's doing it with such regularity these days!
So I'm just going to say...
Ever since I was a young boy
I've played the yellow ball
From Soho down in Brighton
I must of played them all
But I ain't seen nothin' like him
In any tennis hall
That deaf, numb and old kid
Sure play a mean (tops)pinball!

Disappointed with Fed today.

If you watched the match or listened to the interviews after you would know Federer took his foot off the gas near the end and did about all he could short of tanking it to let the guy win a game.. Zver was up 15-40 on serve at one point, and Federer barely bending to return it and the guy double faulted twice in a row.... then netted a gimme shot from Fed.. You can't help those who don't help themselves...
Zver is hardly a novice either-- I believe ranked in the 50's several years ago and has been on tour for years.

Fed conceded 3 times as many points in Set2 vs Set1. That's just plain sloppy.

I'm surprised there were 7 minutes 27 seconds worth of highlights in a double bagel match.

Thanks, this will be my first time in France, so I am sure I will enjoy. Of course, I made sure to be only going for a week and will be back in the States before the first ball is struck.

Zverev actually wasn't as bad as the scoreline suggests, or at least not based on the highlights I watched.
He obviously hit an in-tune Federer, but the guy has some notable past scalps to his name, including the following (rankings as at time of the match) .........
Simon (7)
Davydenko (6)
Robredo (17)
Melzer (16)
Berdych(22)
(oh ..... and a certain Horacio Zeballos (72) ...)
Last time he played Fed he actually took him to a TB

Federer highlights.

Really a practice match for Federer, sad to say.
Zverev had a game point in the 4th game, and hit his volley onto the baseline, forcing Federer to have to try and drill a half volley pass. Fed went for that shot, hit the net cord, and it skimmed through and won the poinnt. His opponent also had 2 game points in the 4th game of the second set. So a little unlucky not to get at least a game.

He wasn't unlucky in that game in the 2nd set. IIRC all Federer had to save those two points was stand there and watch Zverev hit 2 double faults.

I think you're getting confused with your Zverevs Jahu - The bloke wot Fed bagelled today is the older brother of the 'ridiculously handsome' (Mr Inverdale's words) Alexandr who beat our own Kyle Edmunds in the RG Boys singles - apparently!
Agree it would have been a little mean of Fed to double bagel a teenager
Sounds like Fed having trouble with his serve towards the end of the match again then? I don't think all is 100% with TMF's back anymore sadly - hope it is not an issue at Wimbledon.

That was only the second double bagel of Fed's career, so it is special. Fed has a good chance of winning Wimbledon. I was laughed at last year for saying same thing, but he does.

Re: Halle 2013
The problem with Federer is that he's too slow to compete from the back of the court. His baseline game has completely deteriorated and of course regular S&V in this day is tantamount to suicide.

I take no pleasure at all in reminding the forum that some of us have reported this decline for a few years now. Even less that 12 months ago we were hearing about how he was as good as ever (some efforts made to suggest better..... ).
It's quite annoying to hear anyone suggest that the 2013 version is any sort of representation of the 2005/6 Demi-godlike version. I mean, there are kids watching, they might be lured into thinking this version is what we're talking about.

Re: Halle 2013
Who suggested the 2013 Fed is equal to 2005/6 Fed?
I can recommend a guy at Specsavers
Still Fed should give it a bit more go, as this 2013 is becoming a year of where I play for my sponsors, and don't bother much for wins.

I use to not bother with Fed service games and look forward to the return games to see if he'd do something special. I used to take the service games for granted.
Not anymore - he looks like he could lose his serve anytime.

Well I'm not expecting an all out assault on Haas just before W, but come on, some easy shots being missed.
Fed will take this match with a quick third set.

All they need to do is what I did yesterday... look over a few matches from 2006. It's INSANE how good he was... unforced errors were ridiculously low, his footwork and speed better, his forehand better... It is only testament to his greatness that he is defending Wimb champion at this age, and at the tail end of his career. Awesome.

Agassi is one of the all time greats, and winning a slam even now at this age is a unique achievement. How many have done it from 90-13 ? And how many made wn1?
If I recall, Federer is one of the all time oldest slam winners.
