Ive Never Actually Seen THAT Film!!!
First topic message reminder :
A lot of times in life, you hear a phrase such as "How have you never seen that film before?!?!"
there is always someone out there who hasnt seen a world famous classic that everybody else has. So this is your chance to share yours. Which films have you never got round / been bothered to watch despite everyone else saying it is the best film ever. Which film would elicit a response like the one above. I will start with 3:
I have never seen: Top Gun, Dirty Dancing or Avatar.
Over to you...

Re: Ive Never Actually Seen THAT Film!!!
so I watched it & have to admit it was above average
High praise indeed...how old were you when you originally deemed it pretentious w*** and at what age did you finally succumb to peer pressure?

Ways to make myself look like a pompous t0sser on 606 v2, part fifty.
Perhaps my praise could have been a bit more effusive, is "it was considerably above average" better?
I would have been in my early to mid-twenties when I originally deemed it pretentious w*** & early forties when I finally succumbed to peer pressure.

If anyone hasn't seen The Raid yet then I think that's certainly worth a ban!

Shawshank Redemption is the most overrated film of all time. It's not awful, just pretty average.

That's me gone then, superfly. Still haven't managed to watch it although I would like to at some point.
There are enough people on here that rave about it. People whose opinion I greatly respect and admire.
Not you and Jeff, of course, but lots of other people.

Would say The Matrix or anything by Christopher Nolan surpass Shawshank when it comes to being overrated but Shawshank does fall into that category.

Lawrence of Arabia
Dr Zhivago, and
Gone With the Wind are well known classics that I haven't seen but would like to see. Each feature is around 4 hours or more though I believe?

Don't watch the Harry Potters, but definitely watch the rest (although I haven't seen a few of those on that list)
If you have a PS3 or like video games I'd watch the Indian Jones series and then play some Uncharted. Ultimate adventure weekend in, far cheaper than bunjee jumping in Switzerland or Austria or somewhere

Re: Ive Never Actually Seen THAT Film!!!
I remember aged about 11/12 deciding to watch Schindler's List as it came on after the 10 o'clock news on a Sunday. Since movies tend to last about an hour and half I thought that quarter to midnight was plenty early enough to go to bed and be up for school in the morning. Little did I know it would take 3 and a half hours and that I'd still be up as we neared two in the morning.

Re: Ive Never Actually Seen THAT Film!!!
Watched most of those listed (and Dass, if you haven't watched 12 Angry Men yet, you'll find a mob of 606v2 members with torches and pitchforks on your doorstep later).
Haven't seen
Citizen Kane (doesn't appeal - suspect it will just be critically-acclaimed pretentious nonsense).
Goodfellas
Reservoir Dogs
Raging Bull
The last 3 I definitely intend to watch, but just never get round to it.

Goodfellas is in my all time top five. I know everybody seems to rave about it, but that's because it's bl.ody good.

ET. Know the plot and just cannot be bothered to watch it. Titanic as well. Would just seem like a waste of time.

Just personally I'd agree watching both is a waste of time, particuarly Titanic which is 12 hours of your life, you will never get back (3 hours to watch the film and 9 hours being outraged that the steaming pile of crap actually won an oscar)

Re: Ive Never Actually Seen THAT Film!!!
Titanic is a film that turns a tragedy into an uplifting experience. When that ship finally sinks...I can only describe it like the agony of a pee you really need whilst driving but theres just no service stations or suitable places to stop, or you just think you must be there soon so keep driving. You do the awkward hellos then run to a toilet and get to release.

Re: Ive Never Actually Seen THAT Film!!!
I only watched Die Hard for the first time a couple of weeks ago. It always annoyed me that Bruce Willis' range of facial expressions is limited to a sort of constipated squinting smile. In the end, I actually quite enjoyed it.
@Dummy_half - I have watched Citizen Kane, and your assumption is spot on.

Pulp Fiction. I once admitted it to some friends who apparently idolize it and got ripped to shreds as a result.
