Grigor 5:5 vs Verdasco in the second set, having lost the first one on a TB. Even though Grigor is yet to win an ATP tournament, he is the highest remaining seed in Bastad.

Another win then for homo's 'journeyman'.
Dimitrov still flattering to deceive. He is taking one step forward and one step back at the moment. I have a feeling though he may have a very good US Open.

He is not where I would like him to be but overall I think his progress this year has been sort of ok. If he wants to be successful, he needs to play consistently well at small tournaments. And I think he is trying to do just that - he keeps playing, getting decent results (even though nothing really big yet) and that may pay off in the end. I like it better than Tomic's approach, who can play really well for a match or two in a slam but seems to do nothing in between.CaledonianCraig wrote:Dimitrov still flattering to deceive.

I was seriously pleased to see him back to somewhere near his best, against Andy and glad it might be continuing. There's no reason why he can't go Top 10 again, he was never a great mover and so slowing down won't be a problem - it was always more mental

Nando, working with Gil Reyes, was doing rather well. Not sure why they stopped.

Well banbro there is a good chance Verddasco will be back amongst the seeds for the US Open as he is now ranked 34 in the world I do believe.

Also - round about half 5 our time there is Hall of Fame enshrinement ceremony - Hingis, Drysdale, Pasarell et al.
The Centre Court at Newport looks funny - it's like there are other courts are on the lawn. Old US Open videos at Forest Hills look exactly the same - why is this, in the old day did they more than one match going on at the Centre Court at the same time or something? Private members play outside the events perhaps?

Very glad to see Hingis, Drysdale and Pasarell get into THOF. Being a Pancho fan, Pasarell will always have a special place for me.

IIRC, they re-paint lines to make the grass wear more evenly, and change the orientation of courts. The Rochus v Isner match is the one that I recall and I noticed the same thing. Also, the tram lines for doubles are 'shared', if you know what I mean.

Re: Bastad/Stuttgart/Newport
Very glad for Berlocq. Wonderful title.
Carlos Berlocq captured his first ATP World Tour title at the SkiStar Swedish Open on Sunday to become the ninth over-30 champion this year
http://www.atpworldtour.com/News/Tennis/2013/07/28/Bastad-Sunday-Final-Berlocq-Verdasco.aspx
Are the old guard unwilling to abdicate or is it that the young'uns are finding it harder to make inroads?

But don't ask homo what happened to Stakhovsky. Besides I'd reckon those points earned by Verdasco takes him into the top 32.

Mahut took the newport title. Nice to see a little grass flourish for the Frenchman

Two titles in a month and most probably a fairly hefty rise up the rankings.

Both of Mahut's titles are on Grass. The other one is Den Bosch.

verdasco simply doesn't have the consistency or belief to be a top player. That's how Murray got back into it from 2 sets down. Craig can't help but try to rubbish my argument that his god isn't anywhere near as good as he thinks, and again it backfired. Murray had a very weak draw. Please accept it and stop bringing me up all over the show.

Re: Bastad/Stuttgart/Newport
A Mahut-Hewitt final meant there was bound to be another over-30 winner and apparently we are now up to 10 for this age category for the year so far.
There were a good few 30-something winners last year, with Fed and Ferrer passing the magic age and I just wonder what the record is for this age group.

Sorry but check facts eh?
French Open 2008 Federer faced ONE seed before reaching the Final before losing to the world No.2.
This Wimbledon Murray faced THREE seeds before reaching the Final before beating the world no.1.
Best quit whilst you are behind homo.
