Ashes T2: Lords, Starc and Cowans dropped
First topic message reminder :
Harris and Khwaja in.
Aus's bowling depth is so good that they can drop who was rated to be their top fast bowler without blinking an eyelid.

Re: The Ashes, Second Test Lord's
oops. haha.
ok so it isn't likely to be a 350 or probably even a 250 but at least it isn't 80 all out.
I suppose par would have been 400 but I guess I got very used to some really low totals once.

Bairstow's been cleaned up. 171/5, Siddle strikes. Prior needs to grind here.
Oh hang on.....that's a no-ball!

Oh dear...spoke too soon. Siddle clean bowls him on 21. England are 171-5.
Or are they? England ask for a review...possible no-ball...
And it's reversed...big let-off for Jonny Bairstow and England still 171-4.

Jonny Bairstow you lucky lucky boy!
However the Aussies appear to have the strategy that gets Bairstow often, how many times is he being bowled playing across the line!?

oooh Bairstow gets away with one. Clean bowled, but the umpires want to check the front foot, and it's a no-ball! just!

something I don't like is where bowlers try to be Mr mean and nasty like Siddle does.. constant snarl. I don't really get it, it's a gents game fellas!

Actually, I think cricket stopped being the gentleman's game some time ago. Aggression and getting in your opponent's face is what its all about now. Australia in particular have had a reputation for this kind of behaviour, at least for as long as I've been watching.
WG Grace would turn in his grave if he knew.

Re: The Ashes, Second Test Lord's
Great footage from sky.. Bairstow didn't have his eyes on that ball.
A few issues for the coaches to sort with these young players but you can't expect a total package at such a young age.
True Wolfie, I suppose it has been the competitive Aussie way.

Been a while since there has been a proper batsmen in Tests been so susceptible to being Bowled as Bairstow. Must be a major concern to him and the coaching staff.
Hope he takes his 2nd chance!

Bit of a lucky break for Jonny B...but if he keeps playing across the line like that he is going to get cleaned up sooner or later...KP can do that , but he keeps his eye on the ball ...

Absolutely loving TMS. Never really listened to it before but I'm on holiday in Turkey and this is my only way of keeping up with the test!

103/1 in that session, so well done England. 183/4 at tea, 400 is still on!

Talk about choosing the wrong couple of weeks to come here... We've just had a massive downpour! Locals here say its the first time they've seen rain like this in the summer in 30 or 40 years.

Re: The Ashes, Second Test Lord's
Good session for England indeed. Still need another good one in what will be an extended final session ...Australia are getting a fair way behind on overall over rates , I would think ? Clarke may run into trouble at some point if they don't improve a bit. Might see Agar bowl a few more overs after tea...

Re: The Ashes, Second Test Lord's
200 up for England and "Bellstow" are looking relatively untroubled.
If these two can push the score up to 250-300 we could still be looking at a decent 1st innings score.

16 runs off that over, 3 boundaries for Bell.

Bell might be Englands best player to watch in full flow. Shame the mindset hasn't always accompanied talent.

Re: The Ashes, Second Test Lord's
If England can get to stumps with the loss of no more than one wicket, it can probably be regarded as our day. Certainly so if we don't lose any more at all.
That would be quite a turn around since the first half hour but perhaps I'm getting ahead of myself ....

50 up for Bairstow...a somewhat fortuitous but gritty half-ton.

Superb Innings from Barishtow. A 50 will build up a lot of confidence in him and also in Team England. England has got a very sensible batsman in the lower middle order.

Aussies still ahead at this point. Couple of wickets away from Bresnan and Broad on a flat pitch.

An impressive, if fortuitous knock Duty. Even if it is on an absolute road.
Makes the failure of 3 of the top 4 to cash in look worse.

Trott, Bell and Barishtow have played mostly with straight bat, that what Strauss was telling in the pre match analysis, and are successful till now.

3 of Bairstows 4 half centuries for England have come at Lords. Seems a favorite hunting ground for a few of Englands batsmen.

Root has not given any impressive performance till now this ashes. I think selectors should bring back Compton in place of him. What you think?

Root is the future, we can't judge him on merely 3 innings.

I think you have to stick with Root. You've made that call.
Swapping opening batsmen isnt the same as swapping your 3rd seamer.

At the risk of jinxing, Agar really doesn't seem the part as a bowler.
Seems to be spinning at Old Trafford, so you do have to wonder about a Lyon recall.

Cook, Root and KP will all be absolutely kicking themselves at having missed out here. So would Trott I wager, for that ridiculous shot he played.

10 more overs till the new ball, Bairstow and Bell have to bat till then.
What is annoying is Australia's slow over rate, some overs will be lost tonight.

well it is one the easiest batting tracks in world cricket - so not really suprising..
Not taking anything away from Bairstow- Top bat undre a bit of pressure actually. So not just a typical Lords knock
