Hero Schalk back in training
First topic message reminder :
Schalk Burger has made a return to training with the Western Province after numerous injuries and illnesses have kept him out of the game for almost 2 years. Great news, but will he make the Springbok squad again when we consider the strength in depth of South Africa's loose forwards? I for one hope so.

As I said, biltong it just seems to follow some players around.
But, yes, it could apply to many, many players from all nations at one time or another.

Re: Hero Schalk back in training
I don't agree with the thug or scum comments at all.
I do think the guy plays on the edge a bit, but don't think there is any badness in him. He is just hard.
There are players in almost every team that "enjoy hurting people" that's how they play the game. most of them will take it as well as give it.
I am not a fan of hurting people for the sake of it, but it is a hard physical game and will attract this type of player, As long as they try to stay within the rules of the game that is fine.
It will spill over into nastyness at times, in fact considering the physicallity of the game it is surprising that it does not happen more often.
I can think of a couple of players on my teams that are like this too.

Re: Hero Schalk back in training
Schalk has previously had a year out from the game, was it post 2004? (the same year he won IRB player of the year). Was the year out due to a shoulder reconstruction or SA trying to extend his playing career? Perhaps a South African can clear this up?
