Hasn't he got a 10 game ban or something like that going into this season? Hardly well out of the reach of spurs, who have the better squad.GSC wrote:And if Arsenal get Suarez they'll be well out of reach of Spurs. Especially if they sell Bale.

Bit of a poor assesment if you ask me.Olly wrote:Rodgers somehow got the job on the back of a decent job at Swansea (which has been shown up by Laudrup), and a couple of failures at Watford/Reading.Soldier_Of_Fortune wrote:Why? I think he's handling the situation well
Constantly speaks out of his arse, doesn't seem to have taken Liverpool anywhere despite having the best player in the league last season. Dagleish was doing a better job than Rodgers
I like what he is doing at the moment. I like the style of football we are playing and some of the signings hes made so far. His signing all seem to have a high techincal aspect to there game. Plus it will be interesting to see who else he brings in before the end of the window.

He's banned for the 6 league games, or 5 if he stays with us.
Also we improved under Rodgers' last season with less money spent.

Did we improve? I thought the football we played was of a similar quality, we finished one place higher, but the year before we won one trophy and got to the final of another. I certainly felt more positive after 11/12 than I did after 12/13. Rodgers also has managed the players very poorly in my opinion.
Rodgers was saved by Suarez' world class form.

Sturridge found some form for the first time in his career. Coutinho looked terrible at the start but suddenly clicked into gear. But Suarez was the sole reason Liverpool finished as high as 7th.
Without him, I can't see them even getting top 10 this season.

We won more games, lost less, ended the season with more points and spent less. He also restored confidence in Henderson and moved him back to the centre. He actually got a few decent performances from Downing and Enrique regained the form he showed during his first few months.
While Kenny won the CC and got us to an FA Cup final which was great, we improved under Rodgers' during the league which is what most want.
It baffles me how people can accuse Rodgers' of mis-management of players, when the form of some of them improved under him. Surely he was doing something right.
I's also add that Rodgers' improved ten fold when it came to the media, which is what the owners would have wanted.

Improved with the media? I don't see it, as he comes across as an arrogant, self-entitled egomaniac who has no control over his players and seemingly no ambition. And that's from a neutral who used to like Rodgers back in his Swansea days.

Re: 2013 Summer Transfer Window Thread....Continued.....CONTINUED
I reckon we did. Is it a coincidence that Suarez bangs 23 in last season while under Kenny he could only manage 11 in the league. Depends how you want to spin it. We have had a lot of dross in on high wages which he has been in the process of clearing out. I like the type of players we have been linked with and who he has signed so far. No point having squad players picking up high wages. I'd rather give the youngsters in the squad a chance. The expectations of Liverpool are not going to be as high has they have previously which should hopefully take some of the pressure off. With a nice set of fixtures (on paper) to start the campaign with (as opposed to last year), hopefully we can start as we mean to go on and actually give it a good crack this season.Crimey wrote:Did we improve? You're right there, this is the first season I can remember where Liverpool aren't touted as even top 6. It's a season to build on potential before cracking the top 6/4 next season.
I just don't see the likes of Aspas, Alberto and Toure contributing anything. Norwich, Fulham, Southampton, Cardiff are all making bigger and better signings. You could struggle to keep 7th spot.

I think folk do go overboard when rating Suarez' qualities. You'd think he was Maradona reborn.

He was very good under AVB. He got cocky and it showed when his form dipped and hell fell out of favour under Robbie, Bertrand started the UCL final in his spot. Getting sold was a wake up call for him.Azzy Mahmood wrote:Sturridge found some form for the first time in his career. Coutinho looked terrible at the start but suddenly clicked into gear. Im not even gonna read all this thread since the morning. I saw someone mention a team that hoof and another say mediocre side and smiled. The idiots are back as the season draws near!
Paying £1.5m up front and the rest in installments and add ons for a pretty decent player. Two years ago we were just starting a Championship season having finished bottom of the Premier League. Since then we've signed Nolan, Carroll, Jarvis, Diame, Collins, Rat, Cole, Demel and Downing who are all arguably better than what we had in the Premier League before that. On top of that we've got the best team spirit ive ever known at the club and are probably more enjoyable to watch than I remember in a long time.

Re: 2013 Summer Transfer Window Thread....Continued.....CONTINUED
On this Liverpool debate, from a Celtic fan looking in from the outside I felt Liverpool were better under Dalglish, sure Rodgers won more points in the League but I felt Liverpool under Dalglish were very unlucky, sure you cant akways be unlucky but I've never known a team to hit the woodwork so often as Liverpool did in 2011/12, with a bit more luck in front of goal I don't think its beyond the realms of possibility to think Liverpool could have won another 15+ points which could have seen them seriously challenge for 4th spot
Saurez was sensational last season, I tipped him to be Player of the Year off the back of how unlucky he was the previous season, I felt no-one could be that unlucky two years running, the shots that were hitting the woodwork in 2011/12 were suddenly finding the net in 2012/13

I like the fact that Liverpool are being slagged off left, right and centre at the minute. All the motivation we need

Definitely an improvement on King Kenny, but I find Rodgers as a person has gone backwards in his media manner.
John, there's no transfers to talk about, so we're discussing teams and their prospects for the new season. I have United down for 4th this season, I wonder how long that discussion could last for

That's what no transfers does and you get people talking **** and producing pointless discussions about J Cole or Dalglish. I know GSC has done it on purpose with that Wilshere one lol.
As for a potential transfer, Manchester City defender Aleksandar Kolarov has reportedly been the subject of a bid worth up to £10.7million from Juventus. Oh dear Juve.....

What's wrong with that deal for Juve John? Kolarov might not be 100% sound defensively, but going forward he's handy. Seeing as they play 3-5-2, he'd essentially be a winger. I think he'd excel there. Mind you, he's no Pavel Nedved
And if discussing Joe Cole or Kenny Dalglish is pointless, why do we even have a football section on here? The past informs the present old chap, to understand Wenger's transfer mentality you have to go back to Highbury, Gilberto Silva, Dido and Freddie Ljungberg's tighty whities.

When someone said that Gustavo plays DM or LB I suddenly thought 'so, the Brazilian Flamini then'. He'd be a better signing for free than Gustavo for £14m.Fernando wrote:We never replaced Gilberto And it's cost us big style over many seasons not having someone as reliable as him in the side, Flamini is back training with us after failing miserably at Milan so don't be surprised if gets re-signed.

Kolarov is quite frankly dreadful. A woeful defender. His free-kicks are the only reason he made it professionally, yeah he might suit that system but he's appalling. Dreadful player and signing if it goes ahead for that fee.

Gustavo would be a good signing for Arsenal, but I do wonder about who plays where when everyone is fit.

Xavi doesn't think he's too shabby either:
"A role model. For me, and I really mean this, he's the best central midfielder I've seen in the last 15, 20 years. He's spectacular, he has it all, the last pass, goals, he's strong, he doesn't lose the ball, vision. If he'd been Spanish he might have been rated more highly. Players love him."
And Pep Guardiola:

As the Ballon D'or and international recognition has been bought up. Lampard was 2nd place to Ronaldinho in both the Ballon D'or and FIFA World Player of the Year in 2005. Yet gets left out behind the ginger and Stevie Me in all time PL XI's. Despite also holding the record for PL goals by a midfielder. I think playing for a good team has hurt Lamps whilst it's elevated Scholes. Crazy.
