Scarlets 15 - 23 Exeter
http://www.thisissouthwales.co.uk/Scarlets-v-Exeter-Chiefs-Youngsters-enjoy-dress/story-19676970-detail/story.html#axzz2cWI1oPaM
To be honest I went to this match, and it was pretty much just a training ground type game. The match was broken into quarters, and there were stupid amounts of changes at half time, and then as the second half went on there were even players who had been replaced coming back on in different positions (S Shingler went off as a fly half and returned as a fullback, C Price was No.8 returned at openside etc).
Worcester 17 - 21 Cardiff Blues

Re: preseason/freindly results and form
From Quins point of view:
Racing Metro 40 - 28 Quins
http://www.quins.co.uk/rugby/7257.php
Not bad considering the names in the Racing side, was a half decent Quins side but with a second string tight 5.
Quins 40 - 15 London Scottish
http://www.quins.co.uk/rugby/7267.php
Pretty much second string Quins side here apart from Care, not sure how strong the London Scottish team was.
Going to watch Quins vs Glasgow Warriors this weekend!!

Connacht 7-31 Wasps. Match report below.
Sounds like at a fairly even first half with Wasps pulling clear after the break.

Toulon 41 Glaws 17
http://www.gloucesterrugby.co.uk/rugby/matchcentre/8922.php
I wouldn't read too much into the result. First pre-season game for Glaws whilst last for Toulon; added to that they're HC champions and at home with a full house to roar them on. There were plenty of positives to take from the game according to all the reports I've read.
Munster away next for Glaws for another stern test; followed by plymouth and Scarlets on the same day next Friday. It's a tough a pre-season fixture list as I can remember for Glaws. Only time will tell if it sets us up for the season.

Re: preseason/freindly results and form
Tigers got spanked by Montpellier something like 52-12. Full strength Montpellier vs a Tigers team missing a full team of players. It was just a run out for Tigers with a good number of points scored late on against the academy backline. Cockers criticised the basic mistakes after the game. That was a week and a half ago with Tigers at a military college last weekend.

Er, yeah. Just seen the starting line-ups - Tigers had 6 debutants, Pelly had their first XV out and were on their third pre-season game. Not much of a contest. But despite all that, Cockers still had a go at his team in the Mercury!formerly known as Sam wrote:Tigers got spanked by Montpellier something like 52-12. From a one-eyed jock perspective, nice to see Johnny Beattie score a good un.

We've only played Bath so far...given it was pretty much both sides B teams it didn't really tell much. 21-21 score line..

Re: preseason/freindly results and form
George some of the tries were soft. Purdy let a routine box kick bounce and then was stuffed when it veered off at angle straight to the Montpellier winger to jog it in. Beattie got a gift when the young winger raced off the line for an interception, because that's exactly what Beattie was thinking when picking and going from a 5m scrum. Stupid mistakes like sloppy passes, interceptions and penalties under no pressure it was just a bit half baked from squad players and A teamers who should be pushing for first team chances.
Only players to stand out where tightheads Schuster and Balmain, second half loosehead Bristow, winger Morris scored two tries stylishly, Scully looked solid at 15 and second half flyhalf Williams. None good enough to challenge for more than the bench though.

Re: preseason/freindly results and form
Dragons are in good form. Haven't lost a game yet. Haven't played one, but that's a moot point
We have Bath at Dave on Friday. I expect them to win, but we need to balance the need to get a lot of our guys playing and also get our first team running their attacking and defensive patterns, as we only have one friendly before our very tough opener at home to Ulster.

Good summary - thanks Sam. Sounds like the second stringers got a wake up call. Tigers still my bet to take the Jeff again this year, though.formerly known as Sam wrote:George some of the tries were soft. Re: preseason/freindly results and form
Bath walloped Bristol 69-11. Given that Bris are highly tipped for promotion this season, that's a big 'ouch'.
As - Wasps should maintain a scoring threat, but so much depends on our pack withstanding the usual big hitters. That aspect alone cost us HC rugby.

Jen I want to avoid a repeat too, 49pts was 1pt off me being allowed to stay up there and get drunk, so fingers crossed we can sneak the extra point this time.

Not going to ask which army, but is there a UN peacekeeping force in Newport now?
I haven't been there since May 08 (The week after we won the Magners and sent the big boys on holidays then went over and got spanked by the Dragons. 4 tries in the first half hour I recall)
But it didn't seem QUITE bad enough to need the UN. A few squads of toughnosed bouncers perhaps.......

Jersey vs Tigers this weekend.
No Lions on display though they and PI internationals have been training all week with the squad at the army base in Woodhouse in North Leicestershire (nice round there, good pubs too). Jersey were a good test last season as they have a big pack and a decent defence. Should see a stronger Tigers team for this one.
Sadly I won't be heading to the Channel Islands for this one.

I'll be at the Wasps v LI game on Sat. Went to Ealing v Carmarthen Quins last Sat. Promising stuff from the Championship newcomers against a good CQ outfit. 47-29 to Ealing I think.

Hound, the team for Leinster tomorrow night is not a million miles away from the side that will play in the British and Irish Cup;
http://www.leinsterrugby.ie/news/10176.php#.UhaH-eCCJ94
Sure a few guys will be with the senior squad but a lot of guys will drop down to the seconds.

Anyone care to make a decision on Lawes. Will he have a final breakthrough season of uninterupted rugby...with no injuries finally proving to everyone just what a crackin player he is and will go on to be...making the England spot his own - or certainly challenging for it...
or
Will he have another injury scarred season where his progression is hindered yet again, failing to really show everyone what he can do.

Hopefully he can have a free season with Saints and settle. I don't really care what happens with England. If he's doing we'll at Saints in the early season I hope they leave him there for the AI. Then maybe pick him back up in the 6 nations.

I'll start getting excited about Lawes 'Big Hits' when he makes one on somebody who isn't a 12 stone back just about to shift the ball on. When he nails an 18 stone forward running at him with the ball, I'll be impressed.
