Clearly the purple faze has past, to be replaced by another rubbish effort. Still, it will only be worn once against Argentina (I presume) and then we can forget about it.

Apart from Fiji I really don't see why England would need a change shirt. Argentina is sufficiently different to warrant both teams wearing their traditional strip. Any changes to other shirts that require a change should be sanctioned. NZ similarly only should clash with Scotland.

Looks like it's been produced in the Campino factory. Awful.

LT if they're interested in shirt sales then why did they come up with that steaming pile of... Halloween is not that big outside the us. I can see the point in changing the style a little. Just not in changing it to a monstrosity that nobody would be caught dead wearing.

Re: Another very average England change shirt
The first problem is that the home kit is dull. White is, well white.
So they come up with a new change kit (and sometimes a second change kit) every year. Now personally I reckon someone in Canterbury's design team thought, "goddam those Poms. they buy anything - so lets really make them look stupid."

Re: Another very average England change shirt
Grey is dull. Teale grey being even worse than brown. I find white striking. The shirts that are ugliest in my mind try to get busy with their colours like the Wallabies shirt a decade ago which had the visual appeal of a used airline sick bag. The problem is not one of dullness. Generally it's the opposite: garish, bright colours which seem more appropriate on a 1980s ski field. This away shirt though does fit into ill fitting homeknit mittens as a Christmas present. You want to get angry but you're too busy turfing them into the never to be worn part of the closet.

Do you mean the red and white hooped top on the link? I actually really like that, for an England kit.

Not too bad actually. Was expecting something really ghastly like the 7s strip. So, where's Wally?

Re: Another very average England change shirt
It looks like some victorian bathing costume. At least the plain black one made sense as the opposite of the white one.
Now if they wanted to go for a old style they could just produce the plain one that was worn for the Wales game a few years ago, now that was a popular shirt.

Really not a fan, as mentioned its far too busy and when have Eng been known for hooped shirts? Pile of crap. Bring back the Ivory coloured anniversary shirt!!!
On a side note I scrolled along the pics and found the new England 7's kit as well, wow. Just wow. Some of those shirt designers having been hitting the complimentary acid again...

Re: Another very average England change shirt
I think it's alright, and in any case it will only ever get worn for one game (probably Argentina). There's no pressure on fans to keep up to date with an ever changing change strip, so if the rfu can make a bit of extra money off people willing to buy them then fine. If they started drastically changing the home strip every season it would be a problem.

That would be because about 10 people seemed to buy all of them and then resell them on eBay for horrendous (£200+) amounts!nathan wrote:i still really like the centurion shirt they did, think they should have that as the main shirt.

Is this a shirt to represent that Australia is a banana skin of Wales? Daffodils are yellow I suppose but that's as horrendous as pink gumboots.

Yes and, having spent millions on shirt sponsorship, I don't think they would be happy if their logo didn't appear on the shirt.nathan wrote:thought they were just the sponsor?thomh wrote:Not sure how happy O2 would be with that.nathan wrote:i still really like the centurion shirt they did, think they should have that as the main shirt.

I like that the change shirt is red to compliment the home shirt being white (as in the two colours of England being red & white) but the design does take some getting used to. Maybe it will grow on me.

Mate, I have spent a lifetime developing and refining my grumpy old man-ness. It takes time, effort, countless hours of study, and many years of marriage to truly cultivate such a personality, and do it in a way which make it one's own. And now you tell me to knock it off. Frankly, I can't.Looseheaded wrote:i actually really like it, i love deep purple and block white combined. too many stripes for my liking by the logo positioning is very appealing and yeah stop being such grumpy old men
I don't remember when, or if, I actually bought an England change shirt. I think I bought the navy blue one from about 10 years ago for my boys when they were young. In this case, I don't care for the change shirt so much, and like most of the others, I won't buy one. But I will defend your right to purchase one and wear it if you wish. It is a lifestyle choice, and I really don't judge the lifestyle choices of others.

At least this new one is closer to home in terms of colours. I might get this.

I have seen the USA Rugby jerseys over the past few seasons. In general not too bad. The newer ones are a bit too busy for my taste, but what can you expect from an England supporter who likes simple white.yappysnap wrote:Just out of curiosity Dr, and you might be totally ignorant of this, but what's the USA shirt like? I am not a big jersey collector. My last England jersey and my last Saints jersey are old. They still fit and are surviving, but I might need to upgrade the Saints one soon. I usually order the charity jerseys if they look OK. but that is more because I like a good cause.

Re: Another very average England change shirt
Paired with the black shorts, it represents the flag of St. David, the patron Saint of Wales. More contentiously to the Kiwis was the black shirt Wales wore in '05 for the 125th anniversary. I'm not too sure about the thinking behind that, perhaps something to do with Neath (wore black before the All Blacks http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neath_RFC), but at least the yellow kit, though it could have been designed better, has a clear link to national identity. I struggle to see the positive connotations of a purple and gold, aside from being rich colours and evoking an Empirical past England would surely not want to refer to. Or the black kit for that matter. Or a hooped red kit, or the "tackler confusing stripe" England had in the mid 2000's.kiakahaaotearoa wrote:Is this a shirt to represent that Australia is a banana skin of Wales? The purple was a throwback to the Eng tracksuits used in the 80's I believe.
Having seen one the new 2nd kit in the flesh it isn't that bad, would I buy one?
Maybe if the price is right.
