Scottish 606 day oot!
Following on from Doc's (and Mac's) valiant attempts to organise a UK 606 event, I'll pick up the baton and suggest a Scottish "regional" day oot.
I'm a Fifer (well, adopted) but live in Cupar and playing at Crail. If you fancy a day's get together with Mac, The Dazzler and I, then pop a reply on the thread and we'll see what we can get organised. Personally, Mac's suggestion of Gullane's day ticket for £50 is very tempting but drop a reply of interest and suggestions of where and we'll take it from there.
Also, as per other threads, we've got a 9 hole hickory club course just outside Cupar at Hill Of Tarvit - http://golfandthistle.com/index.html
if you also fancy a bit of fun and old-style golf, let me know. it's 5 minutes from me and i'd love to go and have a knock if anyone fancies.

I would get involved, but would depend when it is. I work shifts and I am away for a field course in mid July. I'll keep checking this for further info.

I would be interested in playing in a Scottish event, tho due to my reliance on public transport location would drive the final decision.
Any way to get some free tips sounds good

Greame what are the rates at crail for 36 holes over both courses? I checked and Gullane is £55 for no.2 day ticket and £53 for No.2 and 3 day ticket.

Re: Scottish 606 day oot!
love the scottish chat, "day oot" "gowf" and all that. I live in Devon now but I am from Dalkeith. Played six rounds in six days on various course in Midlothian a couple of months back when i was up seeing my "ma an' da". Although winter rules there was some cracking offers up there. Played musselburgh with a member (open qualifing couse) for a poxy eight quid; could hardly believe my luck, never paid more than 15 pound anywhere (winter rates / playing with members sometimes mind)

Nae bother, if you require a lift from Edinburgh to wherever is decided that we are playing i am happy to offer you a lift. Game offer at Duddingston any Sunday or Monday if you fancy meeting, course in superb nick just now.
How about Kinross guys, 2 excellent courses and central for most

Re: Scottish 606 day oot!
i was thinking about kinross as a central location, so i'm glad to hear the courses are worth it too.
mac, day ticket at crail is about £75 but depending on how many come, i can get 3 on with me for £12 each, per round. we could split the total cost if there are more than 4 of us.
personally, sundays are best for me as our shop is open on saturdays.

Re: Scottish 606 day oot!
ok, to get things kicked off, here's a date -
sunday 26th june.
far enough away to give folks time to book pink tickets etc and hopefully (haha) we'll be into the legendary scottish midsummer!
at this point can we agree on the date and then we'll work on a location in the next few days/ weeks? ta. if you can let us know if, firstly the date is good, then also your location, we can then pick a course that suits geographically and of course make sure that it's up to scratch ;-)
like the dazzler's kind offer, if anyone else needs transport etc, i'm glad to help out (not that living in cupar is much help to anyone really, unless we pick a course in east fife!)

I am not sure if I can make the 26th just yet, problem being my shift pattern is rumoured to be changing and our current rota only goes up to the start of June. If the shift pattern doesn't change, I'll be fine though!

Well done guys on getting something organised. I've looked through my old 606 contact sheet, there are 4 or 5 other guys in Scotland on there that you might want to email to see if they are interested.
If anyone needs me to resend it, send me a pm on here with your email address

Re: Scottish 606 day oot!
at the moment, looks like yourself, mac, nay bother and myself, with redrage a probability but we'll know next week. business has been hectic, so i've got to send out the list that d4s has sent me to see if there's any further interest.
i'm off on a stag weekend this evening, so will be incommunicado until monday and incomprehensible until about wednesday. my goal is to confirm numbers by the end of next week and then book it.
looking forward to playing a new course with new people!

By the time you play on the 26th I shall be entering the end of a weekend of excessive excessiveness... I fully expect to die for a week after that date.

Re: Scottish 606 day oot!
sorry mac, the chat moved to kinross but reading back through we were just after a date to start with. jumping the gun a bit there!
ok folks, so next question is where? gullane, kinross or crail? or...? we've got 3 from EDI by the looks of it, i'm in cupar and if redrage can hopefully make it, he's in stirling.
i'm too old for stag weekends, especially ones where everyone is around/ over 40 yet are still going to be doing rounds of nasty spirits, forfeits, etc and it's togas on saturday night, in amsterdam...

Ah amsterdam.
I once convinced everyone on a stag their to dye their hair bright blue and got the groom arrested at the airport for bringing back unsuitable material in his luggage.
I was not popular at the wedding as he didn't have time to dye his hair back or get it shaved like the rest of us.

Re: Scottish 606 day oot!
s_r, are you up for playing?
if there were 4 of us at crail, my 3 guests would pay £12 each per round. if there were 5, a weekend guest round is £72. add the 3x £12 and divide by 4 for £27 a round. and so on...
day tickets (round on balcomie and on craighead) are £99, so for 5 of us would be £171/4 or about £43 each.
have a ponder and we'll reconvene next week.

Given that I am not 100% sure if I can make it, I am happy to go to either. The certainties can make the decision.

Gullane No1 OR 2 are a superb test of golf or how about Craigielaw, again links and a really tough challange, would be slightly cheaper than Gullane and would have a greater chance of getting this booked at a weekend, decisions decisions

When I said Gullane I was thinking 2&3, as no.1 is a bit over priced. Day ticket for 2 and 3 is only about £55.

Re: Scottish 606 day oot!
Mac,
day ticket sounds good, need to act fast, weekends are tight for tee times. need to make a final decision so that the numbers can be confirmed, perhaps we could do Gullane and then Crail in say September to keep all parties happy.

there's a package deal for Gullane No. 2 and No. 3 including coffee and a bacon roll beforehand and Soup and 2 rolls at halfway for £64. sound good? without food it's £60, so seemed reasonable to me (but i shall still be bringing my pack of samosas to snack on anyway!)

Re: Scottish 606 day oot!
i'm waiting to hear if redrage can make it or not next tuesday but the lady i spoke to said that there's plenty of availability and we'll be fine to get times next week once we know. she recommended playing no3 in the morning and no2 in the afternoon to maximise the tee time options. sounds good - an "easy" 18 to warm up before the challenge!

Re: Scottish 606 day oot!
ok, redrage is still unsure if he can make it, so said for the 4 of us to go ahead and he'll join us in september at crail.
so, we've got a 4 ball booking request in on no2 and no3 with coffee and bacon buttie to kick off and soup and 2 rolls for lunch - £64 all in.
i've requested a first tee time of about 9.30 (first 4balls are after 9.04), since i've got to get down from cupar. damn it, if only my helicopter or even my speedboat were working, it would be far quicker to nip straight across the forth.
now, formats... discuss

naybother cannae make it. redrage, there's a spot open, otherwise i owe gullane £10.
so mac and the dazzler, it's booked and i've paid £10 for each of you.
i really must go out to crail and hit 8 irons into a cross-wind... and then driver...

Ok, I'll take up the last spot as long as I don't get my shifts changed one me. I'll probably be in Gullane for about 8.30/8.40 after I have dropped the missus off at work.
If you can get another person as a certainty to play then I don't mind stepping aside.
