Scottish 606 day oot!
First topic message reminder :
Following on from Doc's (and Mac's) valiant attempts to organise a UK 606 event, I'll pick up the baton and suggest a Scottish "regional" day oot.
I'm a Fifer (well, adopted) but live in Cupar and playing at Crail. If you fancy a day's get together with Mac, The Dazzler and I, then pop a reply on the thread and we'll see what we can get organised. Personally, Mac's suggestion of Gullane's day ticket for £50 is very tempting but drop a reply of interest and suggestions of where and we'll take it from there.
Also, as per other threads, we've got a 9 hole hickory club course just outside Cupar at Hill Of Tarvit - http://golfandthistle.com/index.html
if you also fancy a bit of fun and old-style golf, let me know. it's 5 minutes from me and i'd love to go and have a knock if anyone fancies.

My specialty, that sounds like a challenge!
you're on!! my fave is a pushed fade on a left to right wind. not an out-and-out slice but once the wind gets under it, it can carry a good 75yds wide! i've been working hard on eradicating it with some success but there's always one lurking there per round the opposite is then likely to happen as i try and avoid it and a vicious duck hook will appear, usually with my 3 wood when i'm trying to be sensible. "it's a funny ol' game"...

Re: Scottish 606 day oot!
I know exactly what you mean, I tend to get punished more by pulls and hooks just now, there is the odd slice in their waiting to surprise me. I can go down to the 19* recovery to counter it and still manage to get 50 yards offline and left.
Has anyone suggested any formats for the day yet? McLaren has gone very quiet in this thread.

Re: Scottish 606 day oot!
he has. MAC, WHERE ARE YOU???
yup, i was wondering about formats. since we've 2 rounds we could do all sorts. perhaps some format of individual scoring in the morning and then based on that, team up in the afternoon?
that's another point. i know mac's off about 3 or 4. i'm off 12. how about you and the dazzler?

Re: Scottish 606 day oot!
I am currently off 24, it was 18 a few years ago so not a total hacker but equally capable of breaking 90 or surpassing 100 these days due to a wayward long game.
I was thinking the morning might be better for a matchplay pairs thing on Gullane 3 (4BBB or Greensomes), Gullane 2 in the afternoon is tougher and might be a more rewarding test for individual scores for lower handicappers like Mac.

You will enjoy 11th to 14th on No2 cracking set of holes grommit.
Just avoid the duck hook at the 2nd.

Re: Scottish 606 day oot!
gullane no 2 and no 3 in a fourball - yourself, mac, radrage and me. i'm waiting to hear exact tee times but spoke with them and then made the booking online as directed, requesting morning time on no3 around 9.30. there's a welcoming bacon butty and coffee with soup and rolls at lunch.
now we're on to discussing formats for the day. see just above - some team format in the morning and individual play on no2 in the afternoon. all suggestions welcome.

Re: Scottish 606 day oot!
The courses looked in great nick when I saw then this afternoon.
To keep you further on your toes I know of a certain 19 year old who went round No3 in 60 shots 44 years ago.
Mind you that was with the 1.62 ball

Re: Scottish 606 day oot!
ok, i've just spoken with gullane, so here are the times for this sunday -
#3 - 9.36am
#2 - 2.24pm
coffee and bacon roll beforehand; soup and 2 rolls at lunch. i'll be aiming to arrive at around 8.30/8.45 to give me time to eat my roll and curse my putting.
now, how to recognize one another? i shall knock up some sort of 606v2 sign and prop it on top of my bag. otherwise, i'll be wearing a red and black galvin green waterproof jacket and limegreen hat with stars on. doing so will guarantee glorious sunshine!!!

otherwise redrage and i will fill the remaining slots. well, redrage has a couple of hopefuls. if anyone else fancies it, pop a post on the thread or PM redrage and i.
forecast is looking not bad actually and some rare warmth seems to be in the offing.

Re: Scottish 606 day oot!
achy legs this morning!
a 2-3 club wind from the west in the morning was manageable and redrage beat me 2&1 around course #3. what a nice wee course in great nick. it was nip and tuck between us all the way round and we were looking forward to hitting #2 in the afternoon. however, whilst we'd been munching our soup and rolls, the wind really got up and we headed back out into a 4-5 clubber.
eek! lost balls hither and thither as 1 and 2 were right into it and then 3 to 10 were across it. #2's fairways are pretty tight and the rough pretty tough. not brutal but even keeping a keen eye on wind-blasted shrubs and clumbs of weeds, we lost a few.
eventually we settled and i actually played the back nine to my handicap whilst redrage bagged a par 3 into the teeth of the wind and a birdie 4 on the bunker-littered 16th, one of which he visited.
nice to finally "find" my drive on the 35th hole... and what a hole to find it on. 360yds, very downhill. well, you've got to have a go at it, so we did. i only just missed the green right. redrage howked it into the deep rough left but we found it and he knocked an admirable recovery shot to the front edge.
it's a good thing we were both there for the banter as the front nine in the afternoon was threatening to test our light-hearted outing as it was that tough!
next event to follow. we were of course discussing crail and thinking september as pondered above.

Re: Scottish 606 day oot!
Sounds like a good time was had, despite the wind.
Had another wander around Broadstone with d4s yesterday in glorious weather. Good banter but only D4s could claim good scoring.
If you guys are pondering a Sept Day oot...both D4s and I are up for the Tassie at Carnoustie. I'm travelling up to Ayrshire on the Weds night so free for a game Thurs/Fri/Sat (1st,2nd 3rd) although Sat 3rd will probably want to play Carnoustie Burnside. Given the format of the Tassie and my current form I should be free the following Sat as well (9th). Need to travel back South on the Sunday but could squeeze a morning round in somewhere.
Any ideas?

I think Crail in Septmeber might be an easier option... Graeme can arrange it with no booking fees etc. We can just roll up and play.
