This Might Hurt! Clermont v Quins Match Thread
First topic message reminder :
Thought it'd be amusing to have peoples views on the "interesting" match up between Clermont and Quins.
Teams:
Clermont: Byrne; Rougerie (capt), King, Fofana, Sivivatu; James, Lacrampe; Debaty, Kayser, Kotze, Pierre, Hines, Bonnaire, Lapandry, Chouly.
Replacements: Paulo, Chaume, Ric, Jacquet, Vosloo, Radoslavjevic, Delany, Nalaga.
Harlequins: Brown; Sackey, Hopper, Botica, Williams, Evans, Care, Marler, Buchanan, Collier, Easter, Robson, Wallace, Robshaw (capt), Guest.
Replacements: Ward, Lambert, Sinckler, Merrick, Trayfoot, Dickson, Smith, Walker.
If Quins can somehow get a losing bp then I'll be delighted. More likely though this could be a tough game to watch. The visitors have a decidedly B team feel about their selections and while it's not Clermonts strongest outfit it should be more then enough.
As a Quins fan I hope we just front up and don't let our heads drop, go out to score some tries and rekindle our mojo ready for the Prem. And please no more injuries!

Denying ASM a tbp in the Stade Marcel Michelin, and getting a lbp is a good effort. However, it is likely that Quins will now need four straight wins, with three of them five pointers, to progress.

I just cannot see Quins achieving that - and agree that would be needed.
I think though they will have a key role to play in deciding who does make it through, and I would not put it past them going down to Parc y Scarlets come January and stopping the home team getting the win that may need.
Gut feel though - this pool is between the two french sides.

All I care about is that we take confidence from this and start to play somewhere near the top of our game. Need 4 wins to qualify plus TBP really, pretty hard ask

might watch the full match then. A much more encouraging sounding loss than the last 2

Quins, that was awesome fighting spirit today and some excellent play.
It's going to be one heck of a struggle to get out of the group from here (and then some!) but they've definitely got some pride back and something to build on. It's performances like today's that must make the one against the Scarlets so annyoying
It goes to show that Clermont can play brilliant rugby and score tries in quick succession but then can be got at and lose discipline.
Mike Brown was brilliant (again). He's got to be in pole position for full-back slot at the moment.
Heads up Quins

....the other side of the coin......just reviewed the Quins 23 for today’s game....21 of the 23 are fully English qualified. The salary cap is certainly a doubled edged sword; forcing clubs to invest locally in a crop of home grown players....the average age of the Quins squad looks incredibly young and so will have taken an unqualified step in their rugby educations today:clap:
....oh England my England....piano players, piano shifters - Beef and guile.....undoubtedly we must have the power, the beef, to enable us to rock sides back or at least to stand toe to toe with them - and then we must have the guile in the backs, the world class ability to play ball in hand imaginative rugby....the players required to do this are in short supply....and over and above this we need a world class coach without whom we will never succeed and sadly Lancaster is not that man.

It doesn't help that Quins are based in one of the most expensive bits of the UK either. Or the injuries that I know everyone has but we have in our most vulnerable (partially our own fault) areas- 12 and the second row

Haven't had a chance to come on yet but just watched the game again and want to say very well done Quins.
Huge heart shown and a very good performance to hang in there and get the lbp, if we had the past years precision ball in hand then we could well have won that with the amount of chances wasted.
Big congrats to Wallace, Synckley, Trayfoot, Care, Walker and Williams. The final 20 was amazing and showed why we need pace out wide! And that Hopper is a lot more comfortable with a safer centre alongside hime. Well done for Nev for stepping up and nailing that drop goal, I hope Farrel was taking notes.

On a downer looks like Buchanan will be out for a while with that injury and Collier looked like he may have been limping. We are up sh*t creek if that is the case!
Oh and what's with Wards throwing?! Shockingly bad all game, does he never practice it??
