Zlatan or Ronaldo
Unfortunately the world cup will be without two of the best , and more importantly entertaining players, thanks to Sweden meeting Portugal in the play-off.
It's a damn shame but who would you rather see gracing the premier footballing tournament nest summer?

Re: Zlatan or Ronaldo
Zlatan Ibrahomovic. I loathe Ronaldo.
Forgetting everything on the football pitch, I once witnessed the entire United team stop and sign autographs and take photos with a group of severely disabled kids in wheelchairs. Ronaldo was last off the coach, looked at the kids, sneered, then walked off. Rio even called him over and he just ignored them.
Every time I watch the guy play I hope to God someone puts him in a wheelchair, so he can see what it's like. The disabled part is already covered, as he must have some sort of mental disability to be such a deeck.

Ronaldo. Why? Consistent world class goalscorer & entertainer. Although he`s brilliant, you can't predict which Zlatan will turn up for Sweden.

Re: Zlatan or Ronaldo
Ibra is great and has great moments but he's like a better version of Berbatov.
Re: Zlatan or Ronaldo
Ronaldo is a piece of scum. Rather not have diving cheats grace the biggest stage of all.
Zlatan it is then.

What I was getting at, Azzy, is that he is very lazy at times and has one flash of magic against lesser teams. Yes. What he does is amazing but he hasn't got a good record against the elite.

Re: Zlatan or Ronaldo
I disagree personally. 2 goals at Euro 2004, 2 goals at Euro 2008, 2 goals at Euro 2012. In his international career he has 46 goals, and he's scored against England, Italy, Holland, Spain, France and Germany, all in a side that hasn't been that good.
He has 40 goals in Europe over the course of his career, along with 224 league goals (including 6 seasons of 15+ goals for Juve, Barca, Inter, AC and PSG). He's scored against all the big clubs. He might be lazy and selfish, but he's a supreme footballer.

You know if CR has a strop it will just be him tripping over his bottom lip and getting all weepy whereas if Zlatan loses it, it is likely to overshadow the fact that England win the World Cup such will be the magnitude of his tantrum.

Re: Zlatan or Ronaldo
37 UCL goals in 13 years. 6 goals in Milan derbies from 5 seasons at either club that played each other an average 3 times a season. 1 goal against Real in 2 seasons at Barca.Azzy Mahmood wrote:Let's see how many CL goals he has, or goals in El Clasicos and Milan derbies.CFCNick wrote:Look at Peter Crouch's international stats. So. His UCL record is good (Drogba got 43 in 8 years for what it's worth) but he's average in the "big" games.
Crouch has scored about 15 goals in the UCL after three years at Liverpool which is impressive for someone with his rep.
Re: Zlatan or Ronaldo
What does rep have to do with it? We're talking cold, hard facts. Zlatan has scored against all the big clubs, scored at three international tournaments against good opponents, scored far more league goals than Crouch, and led his teams to so many league titles. I can't believe anyone still questions his ability, or his achievements. He's not Messi + Ronaldo level, but he is right up there amongst the next level down.

Re: Zlatan or Ronaldo
I'm not discounting his achievements. But it's like what somebody said about Lampard and Gerrard. The team you play in helps.
He played for the best team in Holland at the time. Was part of the cheating Juve team (granted they still had to actually put the ball in the net). He fell into the luckiest situation any team in history has had with Inter in the years where Milan and Juve were recovering from the Calciopoli scandal and others weren't as good as Inter to capitalise. At Barca he played with the greatest team of the past decade. Milan in 10-11 is probably the only title he's been in a team that actually had to have a real fight to win it. And now he plays for the French Man City.
His achievements are amazing but if you take a step back and actually look closer he has had the luck of falling into fantastic situations. You couldn't time it better if you wrote it yourself.

Re: Zlatan or Ronaldo
Anyone who win's that amount of titles in a row will need a huge chunk of help with the team's they play for. The titles with Juve were pretty closely contested, especially racking up three in a row when Serie A was still the toughest league around to win.CFCNick wrote:I'm not discounting his achievements. - The next season, PSV won the title, despite that Ajax side having Sneijder, Van der Vaart, Litmanen, Yakubu, Chivu and Pienaar
- Ajax then won the league by 6pts in his third season
- At the start of his fourth season at Ajax (a season where PSV stormed to the title), he left for Juve, where he led them to the title, stepping into the team and outscoring club legends Del Piero, Trezeguet and Nedved
- His second and last season at Juve, they won the title before being stripped of it; he played deeper, only scored 7 but became a more all-round player
- He moved to Inter, who easily won the title on the back of the Ibrahimovic-led 17 straight wins
- 2nd season, wins the league again, top scores for Inter again
- 3rd season, 3rd title for Inter, 5th in 5 years in Italy. Top scored in Serie A with 25 goals.
- Moves to Barca, wins the title. 16 goals to Messi's 34.
- Moves to AC Milan, wins the title, joint-top scorer for them with 14.
- 2nd season at AC, finishes 2nd top scores in Serie A with 28 goals.
- Moves to PSG, wins title, top scores in Ligue 1 with 30 goals.
That's just league performances

Re: Zlatan or Ronaldo
Juve had both titles stripped. The 2nd was given to Inter but the first is no one's.
Re: Zlatan or Ronaldo
True, but it doesn't change the fact that Zlatan led them to two 1st place finishes. In 7 Serie A seasons, he won the title 6 times. And that's despite the league having Juventus, AC Milan, Inter Milan, Roma, Lazio and Napoli all vying for the title at various points. He's top-scored for his side at Juve, Inter, AC and PSG. He's cost over £125m over the course of his career. And there's not a side in the world that wouldn't want him, if he were available right now.

Ibrahimovic for me, I just love watching the guy bully defenders.
It is also a myth that he doesn't show up in the big games the guy has scored against the biggest teams in the world.

Re: Zlatan or Ronaldo
Just using the logic many of you guys applied to Lampard. As I said I'm not taking anything away from his achievements but he has had an outstanding number of different excellent supporting casts.
Re: Zlatan or Ronaldo
What logic who applied to Lampard? Gerrard is, was, and will always be the better player. Ronaldo is, was, and will always be better than Ibrahimovic. But to deny Ibra's talents, and say things like "he doesn't have a good record against the elite" and "he's average in the "big" games" is just unfounded. He has disproven that myth plenty of times throughout his career.
Make a Lampard thread and we can dissect Fat Frank in the same way.

Re: Zlatan or Ronaldo
I'm not denying his talents. How many times do I need to say that? Ffs.
He has had excellent supporting players around him constantly. That's the logic that was applied to Lampard. The team you play for helps.
Plus Ibra's record in big games sucks when compared to the likes of Messi, Ronaldo,, Rooney, Torres, Drigba, RVP, Eto'o, etc.
I proved earlier his goals record in big games is below par.

Yeah, you proved nothing. And all those teams brought Ibrahimovic in to their club to improve the team. He improved those great sides. I'd argue that neither Rooney, Torres, RVP or Eto'o have better records than Ibra. Let's not forget, Barca paid £49m + Eto'o for Ibra, that's how good the guy is.CFCNick wrote:I'm not denying his talents. How many times do I need to say that? Ffs.

Ibra has more talent in his pinky toe than the likes of Rooney or Torres. He has had a number of superb performances in big games, the only way you could justify him having not is the fact that mainly whilst at Inter winning all those titles they struggled in the CL so perhaps had four seasons where the casual viewer in the UK wouldn't see him at his best unless they watched Serie A.

Zlatan off course can beat many teams all on his own(as he did England recently and that cl game for PSG recently)

Both are just ridiculously talented.
But Ronaldo has just has shown today why he is arguably the best player on the planet and should be winning the ballon d'or. Superb stuff!
Shame that Ibra won't be joining him in Brazil. Best forward in the world still.

Its a shame Zlatan will not be at the world cup but for me im chuffed Ronaldo will be as IMO he is best player on the planet and should definitely win the ballon d'or. Some of his stats are crazy. The fact he has scored 31 goals in last 19 games or 66 goals this calendar year which is at least 5 more than every premiership club has, is unreal.
