Was Life better before Mobile phones became common ??
First topic message reminder :
Remember the blissful days when your wife straightened your tie, gave you a kiss on the cheek and then you knew you had 8 hours of escape until the next time you were destined to converse...
You remember when you could drive to work without some dozy chick nearly walking in front of your car whilst texting out viciously some banal needless statement on her blackberry..
You remember when you could have a conversation with someone without an irritating bubble gum ringing tone going off during the conversation......
Remember when you could leave the house in peace without getting 8 texts about what to bring in when you're on your way back, how much money your son wants from you or an irate red head looking to prolong the argument which was the reason you left the house in the first place..
Yes you have the the whole world in your hand and a means to communicate with who you like whenever you like..
But is it worth it........??

Mobile phones would have been great as a child if it meant you used them to tell you friends to come round as you'd found a piece of tarmac that was going soft in the sun and you'd also found a brilliant stick to poke it with.

Just seen a shop selling Sherbet Fountains and the tube is made of f*****g plastic and not paper. It's an outrage (this should probably be in the "Grind my gears" thread as part of a "Why sweets were better in the old days" rant I'm thinking of having...

I also remember as a kid that i knew my friends house phone numbers off the top of my head. Nowdays it takes me ages to remember my own mobile number.

We didn't have our own home phone until I was about 13 and even then I wasn't allowed to use it. You played with the kids on neighbouring streets and anyone else who wandered in looking for a game of football was autonmatically assumed by adults to be a wrong un and told to "go play in your area" Only ever had that said to me once and it's near impossible to describe the sense of hurt it caused.Hulking_up wrote:Thing is when i was a kid i would be outside playing with my friends all day.DAVE667 wrote:Mobile phones would have been great as a child if it meant you used them to tell you friends to come round as you'd found a piece of tarmac that was going soft in the sun and you'd also found a brilliant stick to poke it with.

I imagine it's the British version of hearing some redneck drawl "You ain't from around here are ya boy?"
