World Tour Finals Day 2 - Nadal, Federer and Djokovic
First topic message reminder :
Tennis fans it is a marquee day today. I can't help but think what a jammy git Danny is to be able view both matches today and also CAS will be there later on when Federer and Djokovic lock horns.
Well today looks to be a bit special.
We have Nadal v Ferrer a rematch from Paris. Can the terrier sink his teeth into Nadal once again and produce another upset? Or will Nadal show up and inflict defeat number 21?
We then have for the main event Federer v Djokovic again another rematch from Paris. Can Roger at the tournament he has dominated Serbinate the Serbinator? Or will Djokovic crush the Swiss maestro.
The sad thing is I won't be able to watch either so a live commentary will be much appreciated and do feel free to discuss all things related to today's place.
Dodgy knees, dodgy backs, dodgy breathing, dodgy racquets. Anything dodgy goes. As the song goes if it is good enough for you, it's good enough for me

3-3 in the tiebreaker as close as it can get in this set. Wawrinka having a lot of trouble with the body serve swinging into his forehand from Nadal, keeps getting caught in his backhand grip. Nice ace nadal 4-3

4-4 in the tie break.
Stan really is playing some great stuff, rafa not at his best.
Looked as if it was curtains when rafa was 4-2 up and had a breakpoint but he broke back and is now 5-4 up in the tiebreak!
ALLEZ STAN!

5-4 Wawrinka after a monster forehand. Nadal with 2 serves, damn good set.

Nadal breaking the time rule yet again.... and no Umpire has the balls to give him a point penalty because that was the second time. Sportsmanship award 2013? Having a laugh.
Stan had a good chance here and Nadal got extremely lucky hitting the baseline after that shot from Stan. Had no right to win the point but slow courts make sure. Stan was doing all the work and Nadal was just pushing back nearly every shot. It's dull to watch a defender beat an attacker like this. Watch the grace of 1 handed backhand against an ugly 2 handed and watch the grace get beaten.
Maybe they should force tennis players to HAVE to play 1 handed? That would sort the men from the boys.

Yes I have to admit Nadal has always been extremely lucky... amazing how you can keep hitting the lines with just luck.Leonard777 wrote:Nadal breaking the time rule yet again.... and no Umpire has the balls to give him a point penalty because that was the second time. I do them all the time when I play tennis. Don't you? Your opponent does a fantastic shot and you just react? Point is a shot like that shouldnt ever be coming back, the slow courts allow for this type of snoozer to win points like that.Haddie-nuff wrote:Yes I have to admit Nadal has always been extremely lucky... amazing how you can keep hitting the lines with just luck.Leonard777 wrote:Nadal breaking the time rule yet again.... and no Umpire has the balls to give him a point penalty because that was the second time. And as the person above says, he should have had a point penalty. So really, he didn't win it fair did he. He cheated.

He is certainly lucky that the rules aren't enforced and that we are playing in the most 1 dimensional set of conditions in tennis history, I definitely agree there.Haddie-nuff wrote:Well from my observations Rafa then has been LUCKY throughout his whole career ... coz he keeps on hitting those godammed lines.. jammy beggar.Leonard777 wrote:I do them all the time when I play tennis. Let's see, coaching, breaking time rule (cheating by definition). Are we not allowed to discuss this? Or like ATP do we have to sweep it under the rug because of the great Rafa?LuvSports! wrote:stan the man complaining about coaching from toni nadal.

I'd agree with that, but I tend to just disregard them rather than try and address them, for the most part.socal1976 wrote:No I did not, I stated that I disliked Federer fans who dislike every other modern champion except Federer and make unsubstantiated accusations of PED use against Fed's rivals. Cliches of our time.
Stan unlucky.
Nadal lucky.
Stan loses.
Nadal wins.
On "cheating": the umpire's decision is final. If you want to "sort it out" then you have to train to become an umpire.

NS, yes their decision is final, but they can be wrong no?
Rafa isn't lucky in matches. He plays with huge margins for error and incredible amounts of topspin, so generally he isn't lucky as the wicked amount of spin he uses and fleetness of foot, enables him to do what others can't.

Like I was just a walking and a strolling in the shopping centre and this fella came up to me and said Jesus will save your soul and the end is nigh and I said to him okay. Then I gots myself these trainers and when I went out this same fella he came to me and said the end is nigh and the jesus he loves you so I said okay. Then after I got meself that latest muzic disq download utube mp3 sim giga track from Reeanna, he came a running after me saying the end is nigh and I hads to get on my bike but I still saws him a running after me sayings the ends is nigh. Nows I heard him the first time and I said okay he didn't have to keep a repeating himself because it made him seem a bit like weird.Leonard777 wrote:You were the one who got personal. Umpires are accountable to the rules but have leeway to interpret them as they have to react to the specific conditions of the match (crowd noise, 100 stroke rallies, weather conditions, safety ...)LuvSports! wrote:NS, yes their decision is final, but they can be wrong no? ...

Re: World Tour Finals Day 2 - Nadal, Federer and Djokovic
Hi guys,HM Murdoch wrote:Johnyjeep, at the end of 2007, the number 2 and 3 players in the world were aged 20 and 21.
Why should we not view them as superior to the generation of 25-26 year olds they supplanted? Especially as that older generation never reclaimed those places.
By extension, is it not reasonable to conclude that those two rivals to Federer, now aged 26 and 27, with multiple slam titles and 100+ weeks at number 1 each, are better players now than they were as pups in 2007?
I'm not keen on dismissing any period as being poor but I find the idea that the level of competition is some kind of constant fixed level pretty unconvincing too.
I agree, progression is not linear. I'm not saying that this period is stronger or weaker than any others. What I'm saying is that, no matter how 'strong' you view it, Nadal and Federer had it the same. The played the same opposition and won Grand Slams in the same period give or take 25 months.
Those players who were supplanted would still have been playing either side of Nadal and Djokovic claiming this spots. So..unless these players had an incredibly short career..they provided the same opposition to all players in that period.
We are viewing Federer's (and Nadal's) achievements in this period on the basis of what their opponents haven't won. If Federer had won less, and say Hewitt, Roddick and Nalbandian (for example) had won more, would we being viewing his achievements as greater (than we are now) because he had won less and his opponents more (as they would have won more GS's)?. It makes no sense.
FYI Hewitt was an incredible competitor. Even now, at his ripe old age, and about a million operations he can still take out high seeded players. Roddick had a combination that, in those days, were deadly. Agassi was still about.
To say Nadal was a pup (I'm replying to Socal now), and yet some how managed to win on the most gruelling of surfaces is a contradiction in itself. If you are good enough (which he was as he showed by winning the French) you are old enough. [/b]
