Lovely. McFadden is the type of fella ya could tell to go and sit in a dark room for 3 days and he'd do it without asking why. He's a Trojan.

Jack McGrath man of the match well done. I would actually highlight Rory Best as the best forward in that second half but delighted for McGrath.

McGrath, Best, POm, Paddy and Ferg. Great debuts for a few of the lads. Reddan quickened the pace but he can be very sloppy.

Exactly. Coaches and players would be patting themselves on the back normally after an Ireland win like this, I like that Schmidt will continue to push us to improve.LeinsterFan4life wrote:Love the fact Joe is not at all satisfied. The perfectionist.

Schmidt says.
Untidy. Ball security wasn't great. Samoans weren't full strength. The accuracy we wanted wasn't there. We need a reality check.
Cheer up Joe.

He's a great rugby player. Showed up Bowe tonight. Did Bowe actually play tonight btw? Bowe and Earls numbers are up with Ireland, unless they find their past form. Zebo, Fitzy, Kearney, Mcfadden (interim), Gilroy et al, are waiting in and on the wings.
The regs need to prove themselves again. No more cushy seats lads. Joe is in the house. Grand.

Just to hear an eloquent and intelligent interview, from an Irish coach. That was so reassuring. That and the result. But mostly the performance from the relative newbies.
That made me believe more than ever.

I think next week there'll be five changes- Healy for McGrath, O'Connell for Toner, O'Brien for Henry, Sexton for Jackson and Marshall for D'Arcy.

Those are the changes I see happening as well. It will be deeply disappointing if Tuohy doesn't feature at all this autumn though.Notch wrote:I think next week there'll be five changes- Healy for McGrath, O'Connell for Toner, O'Brien for Henry, Sexton for Jackson and Marshall for D'Arcy.

It would be a bit, although I thought Toner was good today. Just don't see Toner/POC as a combo. McCarthy was pretty pedestrian when he was on the pitch.

Not quite sure about that one to be honest. Should be. But after today's performance, Id bring D Kearney in and put someone else there. And you know who.Notch wrote:I think next week there'll be five changes- Healy for McGrath, O'Connell for Toner, O'Brien for Henry, Sexton for Jackson and Marshall for D'Arcy.
He was excellent today. Spent most of his time over-shadowing Darcy.
It's coming.

Bowe had a quiet game but he's nailed on at 14.

McFadden was pretty good, but I thought Jackson, McGrath, POM and Best were the standouts.
Henry was playing very well until he went off.

He's the type of player that seeks out the ball and thrives in space, the wing is where he should stay.

According to McGrath in his interview, Schmidt said at half time for the boys to keep grinding Samoa down as they were, as they will wear out around 60 minutes and then the game will open up. Which is exactly what happened.
What a clever man.

Delighted with that. 3rd gear really and put 40 points on a team ranked above us.
I think the 2nd row pair will change (although toner was very good IMO) and it is seriously time to give Luke the run at 12. While the game was a contest D'arce was mediocre. Did really well at the end. Best, POM and McGrath the standouts. My team for next week
Healy, Best, Ross, POC, Tuohy, McLaughlin, SOB, Heaslip, Murray, sexton, McFadden, Marshall, BOD, Bowe, Kearney
Cronin, McGrath, Fitz, Toner, POM, Reddan, Madigan, Earls

Schmidt critical of the performance! Individual errors were costly but Ireland were very efficient when they got into the Samoan 22 and looked more cohesive for the first time in a long time. Australia will be a different kettle of fish but its a great start for Schmidt.

Re: Ireland v Samoa 5.45pm
POM played for Ireland like he does for Munster. Under Kidney bar the French game he was a show pony doing a poor mans Tom Croft impression (which is really saying something). When he actually plays as a forward and not a wannabe back he can be tremendous and he was today. I thought he was lazy. Turns out it's just another example of Kidney not really having a clue. A backrow of POM, SOB and TOD/Henry could be the answer lads. What a difference a coach who wants to play rugby can be.
