Khan ,July 13th 2012......................16:45pm
"This is my chance to prove once and for all that I'm the best in the division," he said.
"I can win the WBC title and will have held three of the four belts in the light-welterweight division, so it's time to move up to 147lbs. I just think there are more challenges out there for me in that division.
"I want to be in big world title fights and in big fights with the likes of Mayweather. To do that, I need to be up in that division."
He added: "Watching Mayweather's last fight (a points win against Miguel Cotto), coupled with the way I've been training, I think I'm ready.
"Styles make fights. I know Mayweather's fought other styles and has looked so good against them, but he's never fought anyone with my style, someone young, hungry, fit and strong who can punch.
"I know I will cause Mayweather problems. He's getting older and slower now. It's the best time to catch him. I really believe I do have the style to beat him.
"One of the reasons I want to move up to 147lbs is to fight Mayweather and it's not about the money, it's about me knowing I can beat the guy and be the next guy at the top, the next pound-for-pound champion."

Very well put Amir. The only problem is that you were fighting an undefeated fighter who can punch like a steam train (quite obviously after early hours of this morning!).
Khan needs to stop bloody thinking of these "future" fights and that he will one day be P4P champ.
He needs to change trainer. Simple.
Pacquiao can fight with his hands down and without worrying about his defence because he has now grown into a division naturally where he can take shots to throw shots. Powerful shots.
Saying that, Pacquiao was knocked out twice early in his career or whatever it was, so was Lennox lewis, and so was Wladamir Klistchko. They are now current world champions, top P4P fighters or HOF Fighters.
Stick to your jab and speed, work on the leg strength (see vs Maidana) to absorb a shot a bit better.

Great thing about these interviews, they never show the question asked.

Is it arrogant to talk about what could potentially be happening in your career later on? Just don't buy this whole he's SOOOOOO arrogant because he wanted to fight Mayweather. Part of boxing is having things in the pipeline for yourself surely, so talking yourself up is nothing bad.

This is the problem.
So he should admit to himself and everyone else that he is not the best?
Please mate, don't get into competitive sports. Try your hand at tiddlywinks.

A man who had beaten the best in Britain and Europe and had just defeated the great Kostya Zoo (sorry cannot even remember how to spell last name)

Most Professional sport stars only look at challenges that are right in front not the future. And this looking past oppenents isnt helping his progression. Khans not the brightest spark and the yes men around him need to get some sense into him and stop blowing smoke up his ar$e

When asked about the future, most boxers say exactly what Khan said.
What would you have said if in Khan's position and asked about Mayweather? Think of yourself as a boxer and not a politician.

For once, I have to agree with Az, I don't see the problem with him saying he wants to take on Mayweather, nothing wrong with having big things in the pipeline.

This is getting worrying. Too many people coming round to my way of thinking. Have to try a new approach. I have a rep to uphold you know.

You have an opinion on so many things Az, it was only a matter of time until we both agreed on something

While not being a professional athlete, I would say something along the lines of
"mayweather would be a fight any fighter dreams of, but at this moment I have a tough oppenent in garcia that I need to get past first, when (agree with having confidence is fine) I beat garcia moving up and facing mayweather is something that would intrest me"
Wouldnt have been hard for a pr team to give him something along the lines of that, and I dont agree that its always the media asking about mayweather. Khans seem to get who and where he's going at every single oppurtunity

There's little difference between what you wrote and what he said. The only difference is that he assumes he would beat Floyd.
Even if he did say, word fo word, what you wrote, numpties would still criticise him. The Terry like people here will find anything he says and criticise him for it.

HA I forgot that everybody who critises khan is a racist!
There is a difference in the comments though, my comment shows that hes not looking past garcia something khan is guilty of, it also says that while he would look for a mayweather fight its not saying how he can beat mayweather etc because of styles etc. something which screams of arrogance and invites critism as thiers no evidence in his career of standing a chance at all! considering he lost his last fight againsta average fighter whether on drugs or not

Name me any welterweight who if asked how they would fare against Floyd would not give an answer similar to Khan's.
Floyd is the grand prize in boxing. Everyone wants a piece of him. All would say they would beat him even if they had a title fight the next day.
No everyone. Many. And Terry is not a racist.

Re: Khan ,July 13th 2012......................16:45pm
There is nothing wrong with calling out or talking about, everyone does, it's a win-win situation for every fighter bar pacquiao. You either beat a great fighter or get a payday you wouldn't get anywhere else
The problem with khan is that he's doing it when he has other opponents to worry about
True he is being asked the questions, but most boxers say along the lines of "right now I'm only worried about...." he didn't or doesnt need to be looking past anyone

Not offically
Think paulie would tell us how he would get his ar$e handed to him, probably.quite funnily aswell
Think kell brooks got enough between the ears to tell us hes not ready for him
Thats just a couple I thought of, many more would imo until a fight was lined up when they have to start selling it. But khan was no where near a fight with him, he'd just been beat.
Khans been dropping floyds and mannys name into every interview even when he was fighting the willie lymonds!!

Someone here said it was journalism. Who knows what was asked or what Khan said after the last comment was printed? During the build up to this fight I've heard him talk about Garcia only and giving credit top his skills.
