A real struggle finding a pub that shows rugby up here. First sight of Wendy ball no matter how obscure the teams or minor the league and that seems to take priority ove rugby.justified sinner wrote:If you can't get to the game just go down to the pub and watch it there, my plan.GLove39 wrote:But at least it's free for all to view. Once Sky take over fully, myself & no doubt many others won't be seeing any rabo.justified sinner wrote:Alba are rubbish, poor coverage in a language nobody speaks or understands. Let's hope Sky decide to extend their coverage after next year's toe in the water.
Anyway getting ready to head off to Murrayfield via a couple of hostelries. Looking forward to seeing this Embra team, best line up since Munster.

As for going to the games, find myself at the occasional one, but tricky given they're on Friday night, Aberdeen to Edinbrugh / Glasgow is a bit of a trek

BBC Scotland 'Sport' tonight - absolutely no mention of the rugby.
Was good to hear that Dundee United beat Motherwell in the Scottish league cup though...

Good game. Thought Du Preez was excellent, as was Lutui and Nel. Sam Beard looks a player as well, really sharp off the bench.
I was late to the game, it was 3-10 when I arrived, so were we pretty strong from what I saw. Laidlaw kicked well, Fife was really sharp and NDL scored a cheeky interception and and up Nel for the last run in.
Good performance, sets us up nicely for Glaws next Sunday.

Connacht are in seriously bad shape at the minute. I hope Lam sorts them out in the 2nd half of the season but do far it's extremely disappointing

So Rennie starts a game and Edinburgh thrash Connacht, what a coincidence.
Great confidence booster for Edinburgh, play well and they've got a chance against Gloucester, Heineken Cup's a funny old cup.

Re: Embra MFLs vs Connacht
To be fair it was when he came off that we really racked up the points - Grant was very good off the bench. Still, Rennie had a good solid outing and is clearly getting fitter and sharper. He had a couple of nice breaks and as always competed hard at the breakdown.reallybored wrote:So Rennie starts a game and Edinburgh thrash Connacht, what a coincidence.

De Luca finished the game strong. Nice footwork and break to set up Nel's romp to the line, and his interception try was well caught. I like the look of Sam Beard as well. Not a big lad but deceptively strong, and he's quick as well. The weak link was probably Cuthbert. I prefer him at 15 than on the wing. When he gets going he isn't too slow, but he has no acceleration and a couple of times when Parks kicked in behind we were thankful for Tonks' pace covering round the back. The Connacht winger had Cuthbert on toast in terms of pace.
Still, great to get a TBP, and our home record this season hasn't actually been too bad. Glaws will present a tough test, no question, but with our internationals back in the fold I think we'll be pretty competitive. Just a shame we have Cuthbert on the wing rather than Visser. Chalk and cheese in terms of finishing ability.
Enjoying my Swan on toast all the more this morning thanks to that result.

Craig Clarke, from super rugby champion (and captain) to bottom of the rabo, must be massively underwhelming.
I wouldn't like to be in Pat Lam's shoes right now.

I'm assuming that FES already had that servant shot who added too much salt to his kedgeree last week.RDW_Scotland wrote:Just a plain simple breakfast for a change this morning then?funnyExiledScot wrote:

Re: Embra MFLs vs Connacht
Nick de Luca's interception is just pure funny. Great vision, albeit woeful pass by Connacht player.
Nice to see Embra play in the manner they did, especially the last 10mins. Laidlaw's boot was on fire! 9 from 9 I do believe (though I can't find his GK ratio for the game). Parks missed everything after his early DG and conversion.
Embra v Connacht Highlights
The pitch has been ploughed for sure. What are they going to do about it?
Now for the HC next week...

Good play by De Luca for Nell's try, not sure I've ever seen him deliver such a simple pass.
How's Leonard been getting on?

Leonard was preety assured. Good crisp distrubution, makes his tackles in defence and has good distance on his kicks. He's pretty tidy for such a young player.
One to stick with in my view. The raw materials are there, just needs to keep playing and learning.

FES - cards on your antique Chippendale table - would you sign Heathcote in the summer for Edinburgh if he wanted to come?

For what it's worth, I would. Embra need more depth at FH, and the competition between Weir and Jackson at Glasgow is doing good for both players.George Carlin wrote:FES - cards on your antique Chippendale table - would you sign Heathcote in the summer for Edinburgh if he wanted to come?

Re: Embra MFLs vs Connacht
Absolutely. I think Francis will be on his way out, hasn't really worked out with him, so having both Leonard and Heathcote as options won't hurt one but, plus Heathcote needs to play more matches. I wouldn't mind a fit Alex Blair in the squad as a 3rd choice either.George Carlin wrote:FES - cards on your antique Chippendale table - would you sign Heathcote in the summer for Edinburgh if he wanted to come?
Still, I've been pleased with Leonard so far, and we're certainly not rich enough in resources at 10 to be ignoring his talents.

Re: Embra MFLs vs Connacht
Heathcote has been completely frozen out at Bath. He is lucky to get a 5 minute cameo at the end of a game at the moment. He did not get on at all on Saturday. When Ford signed for them there was talk about giving both stand offs plenty game time. Clearly that is not happening and they have decided to put all their eggs in Ford's basket. That can only mean that they know Heathcote will be off at the end of the season and they feel no obligation to develop him any more. Edinburgh does seem the most likely destination as it is a move that would suit both parties. He was always going to be under contract to Bath this season and they had no reason to let him go early, as they do still need him as back up.Captain_Sensible wrote:For what it's worth, I would. Bath will sign up another back up stand off later this season and Heathcote will move. He is to good a player to warm the bench. In last years A fixture he looked the better of the two players by a long way. I hope it is to Edinburgh as he is a good player who held down a starting spot for Bath when just 20 years old when Donald was injured and a lot of people felt was ahead of him even after he came back.
Events have worked against him this year but he is still young, talented and with bags more potential. Leonard is a work in progress but Heathcote is already there. He just needs to be allowed to play.

Francis out, Heathcoat in, simples,
Now if Duncan Taylor, Alex Grove and Grant Shiells fancy coming up too that would be just lovely.

So what is the table worth then?
Which has the better legs; the Chippendale or either of our stand-offs? I really must stop putting the words Chippendales and legs into the same sentence when writing for an MFL readership as they may come over all unnecessary and spill their claret on their 2014 Men in Uniforms calendar.
