Tennis 101. - Page 2 Empty Tennis 101.

Post by LuvSports! Mon 09 Dec 2013, 3:14 pm

First topic message reminder :

I saw that rugby did one of these so I thought what would I like to be put into room 101 from tennis today.
Here's a few ideas.

1) Andrew Castle commentary
2) Sue Barker
3) The term "golden era"
4) Towelling off after every point
5) Umpires, who like many players, seem to disregard the 25 second time between points rule.

Over to you.

Good one - it's weird when it's just a singles court painted on - it doesn't look right at all.

What has my imperious physique to do with the fact that everyone seems to have bought the same pair of rose tinted spectacles?

it is alright, JK. My imperious physique and the fact that I post across the board has given me a Galileo-esque aura whereby my theories are laughed out of town, only to be widely acclaimed shortly thereafter Who could ever forget when I asserted that Djokovic has a greater chance of beating Nadal on damp clay than he does on dry clay? The masses scoffed at the thought... only to pick up the theory during Roland Garros... I may have had a wry smile watching Djokovic demand the clay be sprinkled with water during the semi...

The point is, like the steps of a forerunner in a foggy race, my theories seem hazy, but it is only when you too cross the distance, to see the vista which was my point of view will my undoubted genius be recognised. Maybe more van Gogh than Galileo, then.

KR - being blessed with such foresight, I'm intrigued to hear your thoughts on what the coming season will bring? Who will do what? Who won't do what?

I will probably dismiss whatever you say, perhaps even mock you... then towards the end of the season acclaim you! If that's ok with you?

1. Failure to enforce rules on time-wasting/erratic enforcement depending on status of player

2. Milos Raonic and any other players with that style of tennis.

3. Any suggestions that 5 sets of WTA would be a good thing.

4. Andy Murray's back problems.

My powers of foresight are only semi-omnipotent, Danny. There are far too many unknowns possibilities that may hinder my predictions. For instance, on the football thread, I was laughed out of there when I backed Arsenal to win the league... on the cricket thread I was politely told (it is cricket after all) that Mitchell Johnson couldn't damage the English... Only a month ago I backed world #70 South Africa to beat Spain in a football match... it was all funny until I made money on a 25/1 bet..

Sadly, I cannot force these visions, they come to me in a blazing glory of light. If, however, I do develop a clearer picture of 2014, I won't hesitate to post it.

Here's the HMM prophecy: Novak to go slamless in 2014.

I don't agree with that for a second Murdoch. I think he might win more slams than anyone else. Novak 2, Rafa 1, Murray 1.

He was 2011 good for those last few months.

It was a good final flourish. But the raw figures of 1 win in his last 5 slam finals and a tendency to choke the bigger moments v Rafa and Andy makes me doubtful.

He'll be there or thereabouts but my prediction is another year of near misses.

Of course, it's a prediction I'll be very happy to be wrong on!

1. Any commentator who says: "He'll be very disappointed with that." What they should be saying is: "That was awful play." Tell it like it is. Even Dan Maskell, may he RIP, was critical if he felt someone had played poorly.

2. Shrieking/obsessive towelling.

3. Toilet breaks. (Should only be allowed in a VERY long match)
