Re: The Culture Cup round 6
To bring the debate up to an anthropological level, once read that historically, homosexual men had acted "camp" and spoke with a high voice in order to announce themselves to other homosexual men. In a time when homosexuality was illegal, this was a necessary behaviour trait because overtly announcing one's sexuality could have resulted in imprisonment. The high voice and camp manner was copied from eunuchs.
Perhaps any homosexual men exhibiting similar traits is this day and age are sub-consciously acting up to a stereotype. Or perhaps they are just being themselves without man's inherant need, metaphorically speaking, to demonstrate that he can urine the highest.
I'm going to a gay stag do in January. When I announced this to my mum she advised that I was to "be careful". Clearly she thinks my 2 gay friends won't be able to keep their hands off me. If that's the case, they're a hell of a lot less fussy than my wife.

Why did you have to 'announce' it to your mum?

I think superfly is 'announcing' himself to the forum actually. He has just dressed it up in a funky anecdote.
It's a brave decision, superfly. Especially for a Scot. We will all support you, pal.

I like the word "announce". When Tina announced he was a fan of Strictly, I announced that he was a flouncing mimsy.

Yes, and I have used the word mimsy in general life and on 606v2 since then. Take that as a compliment. Imitation is flattering.
One other thing, Jeff is a fan of Strictly as well. Just saying.

I like Dusty. F*cking hate musicals in every way, shape or form though.
I think you and I are pretty secure in our sexuality, Jeff.
Can't say the same for certain other posters.

Not a fan of a modern one and hold musical theatre in absolute contempt, particularly We Will Rock You, however do have a soft spot for the likes of South Pacific or West Side Story.

I followed the designated route to the canteen. On the way, I noticed a picture hanging catawampus. I said to one of the receptionists, "excuse me, ma'am, but that picture over yonder is hanging catawampus". She said, "sir, I do beg your pardon, but I'm not familiar with that particular word". I said, "well then, are you familiar with this?" and cut her in the face with my Stanley knife.

I don't doubt for one minute that you carry around a Stanley knife, but I am guessing all the receptionists at your place could do you pretty easily in a fight.

They're quite small and all wear high heels so even when they catch me, which is rare, I can fight them off pretty easily.

Not particularly. Just wondered why we had such contrasting opinions on musicals and that explains it.

All Musicals, Theatre and Operas compare infavourably to watching war films, watching sport or going to the pub. It is that simple.

Don't know if The Commitments can really count as a musical as they only sang when they were supposed to. Wasn't like some great tw@t leaping onto a lamppost and bursting into song because it's raining.

Actually, Oliver! is an exception to my rule on musicals. That is mainly because I gave a starring performance as one of the workhouse boys as well as one of Fagan's gang in a school play as a child. Had a solo part as well.

I had to play Prince Charming in a school production of Cinderella which involved me singing and dancing, two of the things I hate the most. I wish that I was schooled in the US so I could've gone on one of those rampages.

The culture thread also taught us that unless you want to look as if you're ready to man the tills at B&Q, never where a green shirt and jumper combo.
