January Transfer Window 2014
First topic message reminder :
I'm gonna open this up now as I contemplate watching the shower of poop I'm about to watch.
What strong rumours have we heard? What do teams need? Where do you think the money will be spent?
I shall start you off with rumours surrounding Lambert maybe considering West Ham and similarly West Ham going to Spurs cap in hand to request a loan of Defoe or Adebayor (sources not so tight haha)

Re: January Transfer Window 2014
Yeah his finishing could do with some work. But he inst an appalling player.
Good work ethic. He would start at many PL clubs. There isnt a mass of great strikers out there at the moment. They are becoming a dying bread.. Its all about AFM's or no 10's these days

Well that's a major man sausage up by Liverpool thought he was pretty much in the bag for you guys?
Appears Nigel De Jong is heading your way with Lucas injured.
Holtby headed to Swansea apparently

Re: January Transfer Window 2014
Salah looks a very good player from what I've seen. He also worked hard for Basel under Yakin, something Mourinho admires & that Mata could obviously not deliver. Can see why Mourinho would want him, especially after scoring twice against Chelsea in Europe.

Re: January Transfer Window 2014
Also highlights Liverpool's biggest problem at present. They're attractive to some players but without enough financial clout to secure them, they're going to get gazumped time and again until they get that extra injection of cash from CL football, but without the players to get them there in the first place.....
Happened a couple of times in the summer too.......

Re: January Transfer Window 2014
Salah is a great signing, will be a strong addition to the bench and fits the "right sided player who works hard like schurrle does on the left" role
Willian - Oscar - Hazard
With Ramires, Salah and Schurrle as cover. Think that looks strong.
Now if we can just get Rooney/Benzema then we are complete

I haven't seen enough of Salah to be too bothered about missing out on him. I've heard we wouldn't go above £10 million.

Trying to knick him off Liverpool, not sure if the lad will get much game time at Chelsea. I hate to see talents like that wasted

Re: January Transfer Window 2014
john- think appaling is harsh on wellbeck, his finishing does need improving but 9 goals this season and a fair few more international goals show that when played up top it is improving. agree his first touch is poor but again he gets away with it a lot of the time because he's quick and strong.
out of the two forwards last night hernadez was the much poor of the two even with a goal. wellbeck brings other players into it all the time and his link up can be very good at times. id rather have wellbeck in over hernadez as he is utter useless unless you put it on a plate for him
wellbeck for united at the minute is a bit of a heskey for england, while he always got slagged off england always played better with him in the team as his work rate, strength and pace could bring other players into it (also happened with saha coming in over ruud). im not saying he's a world beater. when rvp and rooney are back fit he's on the bench again but i think certainly a good squad player who's always willing to give his all. something which united have been lacking with young, anderson, nani being those type of squad players in recent years. i miss the days when we had nicky butt, phil neville, o'shea, wes brown, Fletcher all as our squad players as they were reliable and also great dressing room players

Mourinho's trying to engineer Man U getting 4th spot..
Liverpool were taking too long over Saleh. This is often what happens.
Wonder if Mourinho is an undercover Manc. First selling one his best players to United and then nicking Saleh from one of United's rivals for 4th.
United were basically drowning and Mourinho comes along and throws them a life jacket.

he's free to chuck ramires and hazard our way as well if he wants, strangely enough despite them doing miles better think these two are the only ones who would really improve our squad (taking that mata is already on his way). just shows you what a top class manager can do for you

Mourinho might blow his cover if he attempts to swap Hazard in exchange for Young.

Re: January Transfer Window 2014
The January transfer window is now showing exactly what it is meant to be. Hopefully, this is a sign of the better. Starting to flourish a little bit more with the bigger teams starting to get involved more and more, which is a great sign. But I'm not ready to trust the BBC sources at all just yet. Salah could just be talks between the clubs and just be something that is a twist to provoke the Mata deal more and more. I still don't think that is a true story.

Re: January Transfer Window 2014
8 league goals in as many games starting up front wouldn't suggest he's an awful finisher that couldn't hit a barn door. He's one of the brighter sparks in our team and would easily get into most teams in the league.

Re: January Transfer Window 2014
Why does everything that Chelsea are doing in the transfer market smell of them trying to screw Liverpool over, selling Mata to bolster United in the push for fourth and then buying Salah whom Pool were interested in buying. I could possibly be thinking too much into it, in fact I know I am.

Well I feel the same way Hammersmith..
We are probably all a bit paranoid. But anyway..
Maybe there is a little deal on that rooney will go there eventually..

Yeah agreed. Its nonsense. Cant believe he is talking about it . Firstly he shouldn't care, secondly his comments sound very big club centric. It doesn't seem to bother him that smaller clubs that are fighting for survival may also have to play a 'better' united..

Or that the smaller clubs buy and sell between themselves in the relegation battle all the time or what about loaning out players to smaller clubs to improve them?

My main concern with it as I pointed out somewhere earlier is that it sounds like fear. He shouldn't be whinging when he is top and fighting for the title. He should be confident and not get involved in these little niggling things.

The BBC will only post stories that are near enough 100% correct, it's in their mandate that they cannot produce news based on just speculation.

Regarding the "Unfair" Comments i think it's more aimed at the his want of removal of the January Transfer Window he always complains about it.
It has been suggested that the possible Mata sale could be a move by Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho to damage other title rivals, as United still have to play Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool.
"I wouldn't go as far as that," he said.
"They could have sold him last week but it opens up again questions about the dates of this transfer window.

Re: January Transfer Window 2014
The sad thing is all liverpool would have to do is MATCH the offer and we would have as good a chance as chelsea of getting him. Yes they are the better team but he will undoubtedly get more action at LFC! But apparently we would rather miss out alltogether than stump up an extra 2 million...

Re: January Transfer Window 2014
I've heard LFC that Salah was only really interested in a move to a London club and I would be very surprised if you could offer similar wages to him either.
Wenger has bought numerous players in the January transfer market in the past, he's just a bitter old man who can't handle the alien pressure of being in a title race.

Just like the Liverpool bid for Diego Costa. That sounds about right to me doesn't it. Couldn't trust them as far I could throw them. Once the player plays for his club, he has signed.

Really? Various sources ive read said he was very keen on a move to liverpool! Although the reliability of sources regarding transfer rumours will always vary! Bottom line however, hes going to chelsea.

The thing with a lot of these foreign players is that they'll change their mind depending on who's offering the most money, he's just another mercenary ultimately.

Well thats true hammersmith! If united sign mata and a CM i would make them favourites to get 4th. If liverpool sign no-one (looking likely) it will be 7th again for us. Unreal how a few injuries and a ridiculously poor transfer policy can drain all the optimism from a football fan..

To be brutally honest, United have been carried by Rooney, so Mata will be playing out of position. He'll improve United but I doubt he's going to turn the season around. Bit of a panic buy

I'm dreaming of the day we have a top four consisting of United, Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham or Everton, the play toy teams are ruining the proper clubs more sustainable transfer policies.

Keep the panic buys coming if they're of such a high standard.
