Couldn't agree more.
On a separate point, did Hogg add to the impression that he's a bit of an immature cocky douche, as opposed to detract from it, after his comments in the paper? I know which one I think. He needs to concentrate on his rugby and get that sort of thing out of his game - Scotland really need him on form and he really isn't playing well just now.

Indeed. He'll hopefully stay there for the rest of the campaign. Looking at the calander, there's only 3 games before the 6 Nations begins. Is that long enough for Tonks to steak a claim?
Re: 1872 Cup Thread 2014: Glasgow vs Edinburgh
I dont see why not - that'll be 6 games at 10 and he's had a few seasons of pro rugby now.
Scotland should pick whoever the form 10 is - if that's tonks then it's tonks!

Agreed. Weir is not playing well and Jackson and Heathcote aren't starting. Leonard is injured, as is Horne. Big chance for Tonks to make rapid progress. Huge boot and good pace.
Hogg needs to knuckle down a bit, although once again I felt he'd be better at 15 with Maitland on the wing.

Is this the same Cambo who pretended to be a Glasgow supporter just so he could slag off the Warriors' club atmosphere (strange rant against Weegie nicknames, if I recall)? Agree cuthbert had 2 crucial drops one for the try and one when weir missed touch. He also had at least one other knock on and didn't take the ball when contested even if the other player was half his height.tigertattie wrote:Dire 2nd half from Edinburgh. Far too much sideways movement. I'm going to offer my services next week to teach one direction Denton how to pass and offload. He gets the ball makes a couple of yards then the movement ends. Felt cuthbert had a poor game. Am I being harsh???
The turning point in that game for me was big naka's kick chase!!!
Oh well.
Tonks is steady but laidlaw directed the game not tonks so sometimes we lacked pace in attack because tonks was not taking responsibility. I did think Big Ben atiga was strong however we did lack a cutting edge.
Looking forward to the return leg as it is magnificent to see an edinburgh pack dominate their opposition !
Can't believe we lost though.

Looking to the return leg, for the first time I'm years I actually have some confidence that we can win in Glasgow - in previous years I was fearing we'd get pumped.
Surely even the most one eyed weege (21st) would admit that Edinburgh really should have one that game, and the fact that they didn't points to Glasgow's tenacity and the fact that this Edinburgh team is still re - building.
So all is not lost - Glasgow's away form is better than their home form, so we shouldn't fear anything at scotstoun!
As long as Solomons starts using some of his feckin subs....!

Tom Ryder put in a very big shift, should have gotten the motm, made more tackles (21) than the ginger tackle monsters in the back row Harley and Holmes who made 15 and 13 respectively.
Nel would still start if he was playing on one leg.

Re: 1872 Cup Thread 2014: Glasgow vs Edinburgh
MFL ye are and MFL ye shall remain. Although in this case only just.
I've got a feeling that before the end of the season Glasgow will play Wilson & Vernon at 12 &13. In which case the combined weight may equal one Atiga.
Are the Weege now without Seymour and Ruaridh for the return game? If so then I would expect to see Niko at 15, NoMaits and DTH on the wings and Hoggee furra line alongside Dunbar. Time for Finn Russell to warm the bench as there's no point going with Wight.
The MFL are beginning to resemble a rugby team, which from a Scottish perspective is very good, but their limitations are still pretty shocking. Seriously, you knew Dunbar would make at least one killer outside break against Chunk and Subo's love child, and you also knew that it would never happen the other way round. De Luca was never going to skin Hogg so the tries would have to come from the wingers and with one exception Glasgow's defence was superb.
In the pack the MFL threw everything at us and almost won the day. However, when Glasgow didn't roll over and die there was no plan B. Notice how when Toonie (3% Muppet today) brought on ; Naka, Bluto and Fozzie it brought a whole new dynamic to Glasgow's play!
Still there's only four points in it at half time. Bring on next week.
p.s. Am utterly shocked at Schiz for texting while under the influence last night. All other Glasgow posters were far too stotious for that kind of thing.

Ianbru & 21st. I am a Glasgow supporter. They are my second team after Edinburgh, Or third after Scotland & Edinburgh. As someone eluded to 'Wendyball' I find 21st has that attitude he claims to hate. A bit of banter is fine but the tribal hatred that some exhibit is pathetic. I hope both teams supporters come to 'Brotheltown' to support Scotland in the 6N. I am impressed by the Edinburgh fans attitude on this site for suffering fools like 21st with good humour and not retaliating in kind (unlike Hogg yesterday). I as a supporter of both teams feel the clown 21st deserves as good as he gets. Ianbru seems a good guy however. As far as comedians go Kevin (not a very hard name) Bridges is just not funny. Watch his appearance on HIGNFY again to see him being schooled by Merton & Hislop. I cannot recall many funny Glasgow acts, at the fringe or elsewhere. Billy Connelly-perhaps years ago. The Crankies-perhaps not. Tommy Lorne was a genius however. I wish all supporters of this excellent site a happy New Year. To 21st grow up and don't try to be funny or clever-just be yourself. Try relaxing by breaking open a Buckfast and watch a Kevin Bridges Video with plenty of Kleenex. Sorry in your case Aldi kitchen roll / bog paper, rather than Kleenex, or an old copy of the Daily Record. Do not use the sports pages however or your co** with get covered in scores.

David Coleman Most biased broadcaster of the year award must go to Hugh Dan the Stockbridge Man.
Grant MOM give me a break, even Tim McVisser struggled to justify that.

Thought it was a game played by two pretty average teams. Edinburgh were the better side in the first half, Glasgow never let the game get away from them and as has been said, when we emptied the bench the game changed.
What a difference having a decent goal kicker made for Glasgow.

[img][/img]I thought Cusiter did well, but there was one part of the game which was set up perfectly for Niko had he been there. Cusiter has his hands on the ball in the image, which he then passed out wide only for the ball to go into touch and 2 yellow cards get shown. However, just look at the gap he could have ran through had he cut back in field!!!! Niko would have been away

Nah Niko would have taken the gap, got isolated as ALL his support is on the wrong flank and then turned over/penalised/knocked-on

If that happens it'll be the first time since December 2003. Which is an appalling record.
Re: 1872 Cup Thread 2014: Glasgow vs Edinburgh
Glove, I think the telling factor will be the injury list for each team.
However, the MFL threw everything at Glasgow and came away with a LBP, can't see you doing ant better at Scotstoun. Provided that is we have 15 fit men to put on the pitch.

True, although if Cuthbert had only managed to catch DuPreez's pass, that'd have been a certain try, and Edinburgh would have been 21/23 - 9 up. Still can't believe he knocked on 5m out with no one in front of him
Re: 1872 Cup Thread 2014: Glasgow vs Edinburgh
Also if the ref had gone to the tmo for the clear forward pass on the lead up to their try!

Enough people - let's keep the slagging to the players, not each other!

Eh? asa an English speaking MFL supporter I find this incomprehensible. I find the Scots fans banter far better than others.

Edinbburgh simply lacked the killer edge to put them aqway when on the ropes - and Glasgow showed a fair bit of spirit to come back to win. Edinburgh gave it away tho.

Mr RDW Sir,
Please can I apologise for what I said. I would never wish to cause upset or make personal remarks. I am sure 21st (slippy) is a very nice chap and I withdraw all I said about him. Particularly the bit about young boys bums, any reference to Buckfast wine and the fact he beats his wife. I am sure he is lovely and does not do any wrong. I look forward to his witty any insightful postings in the future with renewed vigour. What a lovely chap. Glasgow humour is alive and well. Fantastic.

Tbh that retort was better than the original message by a million miles , grats.
I quite like how Scottish posters mainly ignore this kind of thing, or laugh at it, and move on!

Effie, I have taught children with emotional and behavioural "difficulties" for almost 25 years now. Every so often you come across one who is so desperate for attention that they simply don't care whether it's negative or positive attention and will do anything to get noticed. Often this leads to quite unpleasant behaviour just so you'll respond in someway and give them some sort of validation, even if it's negative. I obviously didn't do a good enough job with Cambo. He still seems locked in a cycle of craving attention and perpetuating the behaviours which got him socially isolated in the first place.
Schiz, ignore him, that'll really fecc him off.
Also count the sleeps till Execeterr... I've booked my tickets and MrsPip has given me a 24-hour pass.

So.....back to the rugby anyone?
Some key questions needing answered -
Will toonny stick to form and rotate 80% of his team, including stand off, the entire front row and number 8?
Will Glasgow find any fit wingers from anywhere or will we have to send Lee Jones along the m8 as an emergency?
Will Solomons take the unusual step of just naming a squad of 15 since he has absolutely no intention of using his subs anyway?
We'll soon find out.

You'll need to give Nelly he Elephant a break at some point before his mum writes him a note excusing him from games. I know he's good but he has to be running on fumes now and a fully fit Cross has got to be a better option.

I'm still angry at the game. Nel was utterly pooped by 70 mins. Why not bring on cross? He us actually a decent player in the loose.
If Edinburgh are smart, do their homework and realise that Glasgow were annihilated in the maul, and keep things tight for the 2nd leg then the cup could come back where it belongs at SRU HQ

This is one of the 1st time i have seen a Glasgow team so easily driven back in the maul. I think it's pretty fair to say Townsend has put less emphasis in the forwards game and it's showing.
Niven, Lutui and Cross doesn't weaken the team over a 50% Blaauw, Ford and Nel. Solomons is just wrong.

In an interview after the game he said it wasn't because players were tired, it was cause they were 2nd best at ruck time - they weren't good at the rucks after 60 minutes cause they were tired!

Re: 1872 Cup Thread 2014: Glasgow vs Edinburgh
It's particularly frustrating because Andy Robinson and Bradley had the opposite problem, emptying the bench at the 60 mark regardless of the match situation.
Still, I'd start Cross on NYD, and use Baird in place of Atiga as well.

Maybe Solomons is determined that all his players should be 80 minutes fit and that the bench is purely for injury cover and tactical change - an attitude I like and agree with but at the end of the day playing 80 week in, week out is having a detrimental effect on the likes of Nel! Gee him break!

Not really sure that's true to be honest. In fact, I would go so far as to say that the determining factor in Glasgow winning was that they had an extra week off.RDW_Scotland wrote:In an interview after the game he said it wasn't because players were tired, it was cause they were 2nd best at ruck time - they weren't good at the rucks after 60 minutes cause they were tired!
