V2 Magazine Needs You: 2013 Boxing Awards - Virtuoso Performance Of The Year
This category is one for the purists. Often those who show true boxing brains and ability are labelled boring and dull. Well here is your opportunity to cast your vote on those who are overlooked due to a lack of bar room brawl action.
I'm after nominations for the virtuoso performance of the 2013; who put on a clinic inside the squared circle...which boxer dominated their opponent in the sweet science....who was the definition of perfect.

He did, but given that many thought he didn't stand a chance and Donaire was a top three P4Per the way he controlled almost the entirety of the fight means he deserved it. It was a flash knockdown too, he was in no trouble.
I know you like Mayweather vs Alvarez fight for this, but given no-one, Union Cane aside, fancied Canelo sort of takes the gloss of for me. Great performance but one he was expected to deliver. Rigo's on the other hand wasn't.

But virtuoso means technically excellent.........
Being decked is hardly virtuoso..............Though hard to pick at the rest of his performance.
It's the performance not the brilliant victory we are discussing......

Agree, but surely the quality of opposition comes into it or there could be cases made for novices fighting guys with 3-71 records? Rigondeaux outlanded Donaire in 11 of the 12 rounds according to compubox. I doubt anyone would have predicted that. Look at the knockdown too, it was a scrappy one where they were half in a clinch. Basically the only lapse he had against one of the most dangerous opponents around.
Can understand why you would pick Mayweather, it's just I don't rate Canelo as highly as Donaire and that sways it.

Rigo vs Donaire, it has to be, not that I wish to ever watch that fight again.

You fight someone as good as Donaire you're never going to produce a perfect fight but it was about as perfect as it gets.

It ain't perfect though..........
As perfect as it gets Is If he doesn't get tagged and go down.......
Nunn didn't against the Olympic and world champion and heir apparent to hagler did he...
Or maybe he should have.........Then you'd probably think it was more Virtuoso..

Sorry but Rigos performance against Donaire was simply better than Mayweathers against Alvarez, knockdown or not.

I'm sure by hitting the deck.......Rigo didn't think his performance was flawless.........
We are talking Virtuoso here and hitting the deck is a decent size mistake........
Didn't see many 10-8 rounds for Canelo..........
Rigo lost was it the 10th?? by two points........Get my drift..

I couldn't really care less, Rigos for me was a far better performance.

I was going to post Rigo against Donaire
And I still am.
'Chinny Rigo' stepped into the ring and schooled the P4P No3 in his 12th fight.
Many of the sperts picked Donaire by brutal KO.
I liked it in the 12th, with Donaire behind and needing a KO to win, gets tagged with a beautiful straight left which has him running for the reminder of the round.
Rigo is legit

Well with a different referee, Tate could have been credited with a knockdown against Nunn, Truss (albeit I accept it wouldn't have been the same as Rigondeaux going over against Donaire, which was one hundred percent legit). But like Nunn against Tate, Rigondeaux dominated more or less every minute of the rest of the fight outside of the knockdown.
I think you've gotta give this one to Rigo, even if his style isn't to your taste. Just how I see it anyway. Donaire has been flying for the past few years, aside from those frustrating nights against Vazquez and Mathebula, and he barely managed to lay a telling glove on Rigondeux for most of the fight. Remember that Donaire was a relatively firm favourite.
Mayweather was excellent against Alvarez, but Saul just isn't anywhere near as proven or tried 'n' tested as Nonito.

I'm arguing my case...........Not arguing for the sake of it.........This time...
It's a good debate.........Saying someone with a 10-8 round against him hasn't produced a technically flawless performance is valid don't you think........
Owen is good enough to seperate the picks from the debate.......

I can see you're arguing the case Truss, just don't want people put off posting their nominations because of other posts.

Re: V2 Magazine Needs You: 2013 Boxing Awards - Virtuoso Performance Of The Year
Difficult one this as many people will have a differing opinion on what is and isn't perfect. Whilst I do agree with Truss that Rigo wasn't perfect in his fight with Donaire, due to the knockdown...
Virtuoso doesn't necessarily mean perfection: Given the definition is:
Latin virtus meaning: skill, manliness, or excellence) is an individual who possesses outstanding technical ability in a particular field.
Which refers to an individual with superior technique or execution.
Based on this Rigondeux and his performance he fits the bill. He showed he was technically far superior to Donaire, a guy who was in amongst the Top 3 P4P fighters at the time...
Then again, so did Mayweather and without the knockdown;
Clearly this one will come down to peoples preference, for instance you could argue that Manny Pacquiao deserves a nod. His performance against Rios was technically brilliant. Barely got hit clean and threw just about every punch known in boxing. Closed the ring down brilliantly, shifted between countering and attacking excellently etc etc; though his problem was that he was in against a guy tailor made for him.
Feel this could be the most debated award we give out this year!

Lescargo well he's more of a snob.

Rigo gets this for me. I thought Doniare himself was highly technicial, and didn't think anyone could basically embarrass him in the way that Rigo did. Lost £20 on this fight.
