Our final category and it is the big one. The one that many publishers get wrong year in year out! Are you fed up of the bias of the Ring Magazine...do you feel a certain fighter was overlooked...well here is your chance to make a difference in our very own V2 Fighter Of The Year award.

Simple enough award: Who do you think deserves to be on the shortlist for the fighter of the year ..who truly was the best of 2013?

Donaire?!!

Floyd was imperious this year but two fights against hand-picked opposition (that he was heavily favoured to defeat) doesn't suggest FOY for me.

No, they were untested (Guerrero at welterweight) and overrated (Canelo at light middleweight -- went evens up with Trout, who had his backside handed to him by Lara).

Dawson was top man at light heavyweight and Stevenson destroyed him (plus he notched solid wins over Cloud and Bellew -- while revenging Boone).

Rigondeaux with Mayweather second, the Donaire win is the difference.

Strange how everyone called for the Alvarez fight then called it a mismatch afterwards.

It wasn't a mismatch -- Floyd, though, was heavily favoured to defeat Alvarez.

No argument with Rigo, though. Donaire and Agbeko beat Floyd's two wins.

That says more about Floyd than Alvarez, expected to beat the divisions number one easily who was younger and far bigger.

He beat the top rated guy at 154 -- fair play, but Alvarez looks overrated based on the Trout-Lara fight.

Rigo beat better in Donaire.

Hatton was excellent at 140 lbs but poor beyond that (he fought Mayweather at 147 -- a weight where he was less effective).

Styles makes fights, Lara beating Trout easier doesn't mean a lot, Trout after all beat Cotto easier than Mayweather. Cintron dealt with Angulo far easier years ago than Lara did this year, does that make him overrated?

No arguing that Donaire is better than anyone else that has been beaten this year.

I don't buy that and never have, Collazo being a southpaw was more detrimental to Hattons performance than the weight, he just couldn't deal with them and never really could.

He was unbeaten when Floyd beat him...........

Always easy to slap a guy in hindsight.........

Barkley beat Hearns at 160, Leonard beat him at 147..yet you regard Hearns as Hagler's best win........

I can deride that by saying Hearns lost to a welterweight and had never fought at middle before when Hagler beat him..

you said Guerrero had never fought at 147.........Yet you overlook Hearns......when he fought Hagler..

easy to pick at wins..........Especially when you hate succesful modern fighters.

Hatton wasn't the same physical force at 147. He was a 140 pounder and no more.

Trout was too big for Cotto. Lara dismantled Trout. I'd fancy him to do the same to Alvarez.

He was an unbeaten p4per..............and a top win.........

Did Louis beat anybody who back then would make a list.............Braddock a top 10 p4per.......no way..

Marciano and Charles were..........though

Hagler fought Hearns.....................1.........................and that's it....and he was untried at middle remember !!

Just looking for any reason to pull the guy down..........admit it.

i always find this one tough to define...

If it is who is the best fighter in the world this year then got to be Floyd, but at a canter

If it is who has achieved their potential and beyond this year then possibly Garcia

Styles makes fights Haz, size is a big part of that, Lara may beat Alvarez but it's not a sure fire thing, if Canelo fights aggresively in spurts he'll give Lara problems.

We don't really know about Hatton at Welterweight, he fought twice at the weight against two guys who style wise didn't suit him and both of whom were smaller than him.

P4P is a load of rubbish. Golden Boy are in charge of those lists (hence the fact Broner was recently rated there) which they then use to sell their fights.

Alvarez was a good win, I agree. Not as good as Rigo's over Donaire, though.

P4P is a load of guff that thick heads like you regurgitate in the vain hope of fluffing up your favourite fighters.

If a P4P rated featherweight moved up to fight a welterweight, would that be a great win for the welterweight?

Amir Khan has done NOTHING at welterweight. Those men you mention were top-rated middleweights.

Not going to bother including the Senchenko fight in this as a shell of recovering drug addict and alcoholic isn't the best fight to use. He lost once against Mayweather and won a close one against the Southpaw Collazo, I didn't see anything in either fight that suggested the weight was an issue.

Hatton on Collazo (a light punching welterweight):

"He hurt me several times in the fight, not just the 12th round. I believe I am still a light-welterweight and I moved up to welterweight. He hits a lot harder. He did hit me and hurt me in the last round, but I was able to stay close, smother him and keep my wits about me.

Great argument.

Hatton was used to bulldozing fighters at light welterweight due to his method of boiling down to make weight (another beneficiary of day before weigh ins). He couldn't do that at welterweight -- Collazo (a light punching welterweight) looked the stronger man throughout and had Hatton out on his feet in the final round.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/othersports/boxing/2336938/Hattons-title-but-little-in-the-garden-looks-rosy.html

"Ricky Hatton's American dream almost ended where it began, against the gritty, undervalued Brooklyn southpaw Luis Collazo in a career-shortening war in Boston Garden. The most obvious conclusion to be drawn from his brutally exciting 12-round points win was that Hatton is not a welterweight, in spite of the fact that he now holds the World Boxing Association belt."

My top 3:

1) Stevenson
2) Rigo
3) Floyd

Pretty unfair of anyone to try to downgrade Floyd's Canelo win I think. It was a top notch win against a bigger, undefeated, and pretty much undisputed divisional champion.

I believe Captain put a great deal of emphasis on how complete/talented a fighter was (hence the fact he rates Mayweather and Jofre so highly). I dig that.

In terms of achievment -- which is what most expert listings are based on -- they probably wouldn't rank as highly.

V2 Magazine Needs You: 2013 Boxing Awards - Fighter Of The Year Empty Re: V2 Magazine Needs You: 2013 Boxing Awards - Fighter Of The Year

Arguable really, what was left of Dawson after the shellacking he received from Ward? Difficult to say, mind you, at any stage of Dawsons career if he got caught by the shot, it was game over.

He was drained. Stevenson beat him at his best.

The best of Dawson was beaten by Pascal which puts it into context really, the prolonged beating he took from Ward as well as having to lose those extra 7lbs will have meant Stevenson was certainly not facing the best of him.

Puts what into context?

Stevenson beat a full strength Dawson - the whupping he took from Ward had no bearing on the punch Stevenson clattered him with.

I agree Haz, that punch knocks Dawson out 9 times out of 10. It was a huge shot.

Puts into context that Dawson isn't that great in the first place and I doubt Dawson was at full strength after the Ward fight, kind of performance that takes a lot out of somebody.

He may not have been Archie Moore but he was top dog at light heavyweight. That shot would have taken Dawson out any time - strange you'd try and discredit the win. Why?

It's not a great win that's why, he was coming off a loss and looked like damaged goods, Stevenson gets too much credit for beating Wards leftovers.

How did he look like damaged goods in those 50- odd seconds? Stevenson - a super middleweight - took over light heavyweight this year. He had a great year and was a lot of people's pick for fighter of the year.

Strange you'd want to discredit that.
