Murrayfield
I'm attending my first game at Murrayfield this year granted it's in a white rosed shirt.
What's the craic with pubs around the ground? Whats to see?
Also pint anyone?

Well if you're wearing a white rosed shirt it's kind of like an extreme version of that scene in Braveheart when Wallace attacks the fort

Where's Murryfield? I'm guessing it's some rip off stadium based on Murrayfield, and it's located in Boston, USA?

Couldn't tell you. I know Edinburgh is a big place and Murrayfield is quite some walk from the pubs and strip, which are closer to the castle.

All I've taken from this is that you haven't seen Braveheart and you're 22.
You need to get your priorities right mate.

Re: Murrayfield
The hotels on Corstorphine Road next to the stadium are a good bet for a pint. The Murrayfield usually has a tent out front with a few beers to choose from, and will be heaving on match day.
It's a good stadium for watching rugby, and given it's only a short walk into town has advantages to Twickenham and Stade Francais. It's practical. In terms of atmosphere the England game is usually pretty good, but it has been known to be quiet for other games when compared to the Millenium or Aviva.

Do the hotels sell beer around £4.70 per pint/bottle?

Re: Murrayfield
I like Thomsons
http://www.thomsonsbaredinburgh.co.uk/
My wife got me barred from the pub across from it. We went to Murrayfield for the 1872 game a few years ago and went to get a post-match drink, having been in Thomsons before the game.
I got the first round in and my wife went downstairs to get the second, a few minutes later she comes up and says to me to get my coat as we are leaving. Turns out they had tried to charge her over £8 for a single drink and when she refused to pay the barman got a bit shirty, as "he had already opened the bottle" The same drink was nearly half the price across the road.

Don't. It's the good one. Avoid the one opposite

Re: Murrayfield
I've never been charged £8 for a drink in the Murrayfield - what sort of cocktail were you ordering??
Still, I'll admit it's not the cheapest option, although if you want to be really ripped off by a warm beer at the stadium....

DRIVER – here’s an overview.
http://www.edinburghpubguide.co.uk/
Most popular places early on and after the game would be on ROSE STREET here
http://www.bestofedinburgh.com/Page.asp?Title=Pubs&Section=70&Page=2
with map - http://www.edinburgh-rosestreet.com/rose-street-map.html#
or THE GRASSMARKET here - http://www.bestofedinburgh.com/Page.asp?Title=Pubs&Section=70&Page=1
One my favourites was MATHERS (WEST END), although it can be an ‘acquired taste’ - http://www.eh1.com/mathers-bar/

Mathers! That really is an acquired taste. Make sure you don't make eye contact with anyone when you go in there!
Rose Street is always a safe bet, but better after than before the game. It's about a 30 minute walk to the stadium from there.

Re: Murrayfield
A few more things, it’s a while since I was in Edinburgh and even longer since I lived there !!
Closer to the ground as has been mentioned is THE MURRAYFIELD itself, or you could try THE ROSEBURN BAR - http://www.scotland.org.uk/bars-clubs/roseburn-bar
Of course there’s the legendary DIGGERS – http://www.lonelyplanet.com/scotland/edinburgh/entertainment-nightlife/other/athletic-arms
There’s so many pubs, I guess it really depends what you’re looking for

Re: Murrayfield
go to "The Diggers", does a decent pint at a decent price - not on the usual route to Murrayfield but that does mean it's cheaper... also less of the Body warmer yahs and more actual rugby fans

Dunstane house hotel is good for drinks before and after 6 nations games, reasonably priced and a good range of drinks. If it is a nice day they will have a nice bit out the front of the hotel/bar. Only a 5 min walk at most to the stadium and on the main walking route from the city centre.

Driver, Thompson's is a good rugby pub, Bigson and self went there pre and post Wales match last year. It gets VERY busy so get in early. If you're early enough it does excellent pies but they run out fairly quick. Enjoy.

Driver - if anyone tells you to 'wait there, a tram will be along in a minute', I would suspect that a giraffe is being had at your expense.

Re: Murrayfield
I'd recommend the Mercet Bar near Haymarket on match days (they do an epic hog roast and they serve beer from the West Brewery in Glasgow - a personal favorite), as well as the Roseburn Bar (comedically rammed whenever Scotland play, hilariously empty dyeing Lions tests...). If you're in the city centre, the Queen's Arms on Frederick Street is a good shout.
Being honest, if you're looking for a cheap pint, I wouldn't go to Edinburgh. You could easily come through to Glasgow, and (depending on your capacity) the price difference will probably cover the train fare!
The above-mentioned Dunstane House Hotel is lovely, and I'd recommend it for accommodation as well (though probably booked up by now, I would imagine), plus they do a great full Scottish on the morning after a famous Scotland triumph....
For eating, I'd recommend Iris on Thistle Street (best steak I've ever had - just pepper and lemon juice) and Calistoga (again, good steak - spot a pattern?). For either of these, you'd probably have to book.
Anyone looking for a bit of culture (I know, who isn't?!) could do much worse than the National Museum of Scotland. Amazing building, and a very authoritative collection that doesn't resort to rabid nationalist rhetoric.

Re: Murrayfield
If you are after cheap booze then head towards the airport from the stadium. 10 mins walk or a 2 min taxi journey will take you into costorphine where there are cheaper places like weatherspoons etc where you can get fairly hammered fairly cheaply
