Definition of a medical expert......nutter! (sorry, didnt see JHM's OA...doh!)
"We evolved on the high plains of Africa chasing antelope for eight hours under these conditions"
Ist off, kick yourself in the head with your own foot.....man has never "chased" antelope, not even for 5 mins.
So we evolved from primates who could run for 8 hours non stop, an amazing feat of endurance only seconded by their speed of foot to keep up with an animal that is only 2nd fastest to a cheetah, travelling at 50mph.
Secondly, use words like "evolved" meaning changed, meaning not the same anymore, meaning we aren't as desperate to catch our food in hot humid conditions anymore, meaning we are not used to running around in temps of 42C for 2/3 hours every two days.
Thirdly..."from a medical perspective, we know that man is well adapted to exercising in the heat. Whether it is humane or not is a whole other issue"
Exercising is not playing. Exercising is not performing to your limits of strength and endurance. Exercising is not trying to survive under inhospitable conditions of humidity and heat for lengthy periods of time.
What would be humane is to put Dr Tim Wood on court, during the day when it is the hottest, in just a shirt and shorts and made to run around like a pig in a poke for 3 hours and see how quickly he adapts and how much time he needs to recover from heat stroke to do it again two days later for the next two weeks.
Thoughts ?
