The Lucky Charm Thread
Once upon a 1999 RWC semi-final I had an All Blacks scarf that happened to be sitting on top of my TV. Around about half time a friend watching the game with me took it outside to wear while he had a cigarette.
Despite being rationally minded and scientific in my approach to life, I couldn't help but blame him and the missing scarf for the All Black's second half capitulation.
I still have the scarf and despite a modern age of uber thin wall mounted plasma screens, when I watch and home I still like to drape the scarf over the set. The GF thinks I'm insane but the coincidental rate of missing scarf matches to All Blacks losses is too staggering a coincidence to ignore.
Anyone else with an embarrassing match day superstition or ritual to confess?

Have you ever had to be reminded that your girlfriend is actually your social worker, GE?

I have an Irish jersey given to me by my old school mate Malcolm O'Kelly. Its 16 years old now and falling apart but I always don it for matches against England. Its brought more success than failure so I am happy with it

Name and shame this 'friend' GE. His treason must not go unpunished.
I have a lucky charm. Every match I watch or go to I drink beer. It's worked so well for me I'll even be doing it today with no real vested interest in the games.

I don't have any pre-match routine or superstition or lucky jersey. Not when I play and not when I watch. I know so many people who do that I used to be almost jealous. The closest I ever came to having something was my lucky condom.

I have one idiosyncracy when it comes to the Springboks.
I always believe we will play better if we start playing from right to left on my TV screen

Ever tempted to watch the left to right games in a mirror?

If you read my cricket threads in a mirror they also appear less controversial just another tip

He has a point, mate.
When I first went onto that page I thought I saw "crap" but on closer inspection... and with the aid of a mirror it said "rubbish"... which is quite a disposable and less threatening word for the NZ Herald to use, imo.
Perhaps a link from GE and a slight change of Topic Title might be more user friendly?

Interesting that it didn't make the NZ herald squeamish.
And of course I'm talking about the third hobbit movie.

Re: The Lucky Charm Thread
By the way, I found my smallholding, a bit of a luck really.
Was going to make an offer on one this morning, then another agent contacted me yesterday about a twenty acre smallholding from a deceased estate.
Right next to a nature reserve, it is at the foot of a kopje that rises about 70 meters adjacent to my land.

Re: The Lucky Charm Thread
Great news!
Whereabouts is it? South of Joburg?
I was reading up on the North West Province the other day (cricket team staying there) and was thinking how your search was going. Nice country all around Gauteng isn't there... some nice lakes, rivers, mountains and interesting towns.
(Kenny's moving too. He hasn't been on the site for a few weeks but they sold their house and are probably in the process of moving now.)
I had some luck too getting this place. Literally 20 minutes after I had signed the contract there were a few aggressive buyers offering a lot more to the agent. Such a great feeling to be at the right place at the right time... and seal the deal! It's been a great 10 months so far. Loving the area around here.

Re: The Lucky Charm Thread
If you enter walker Fruit Farms into google earth, then go to corner of South and 7th road.
Go west to the end, you'll see a plot just south of it which is currently looking like a dogs breakfast as it is currently a dog rescue centre.
There is a lot of work laying ahead, the house also needs total renevation, but it is worth it for the 20 acres.
Still close enough to look after my clients but in the countryside.

Re: The Lucky Charm Thread
Looks great.
So you are on the south side of South Rd near Leeu Rd... the corner block?
Or on the other side of 7th road (north of South Rd)... where that dam is?
