A Perfect Storm of T888dom
Inverdale, Woodward and Guscott in Paris - poor Thomas Castigne (sp) and the long suffering viewers. Tool central indeed !

How does this constitute a thread Schizoid?
It merely represents a poor attempt to insult someone.

I got a cheap giggle at inverdale sucking up to SCW and SCW banging on about how England needed a drop goal to "secure the win". Then they got one and lost anyway.

I switched to RTE and watched ROG, Brent Pope and Hook instead. They weren't much better except for ROG who gave some nice pearls of wisdom en francais. Real French too, not Joey Barton French.

Re: A Perfect Storm of T888dom
In fairness to 21st he has a point. Inverdale is an utter tool (or a great troll), take this afternoon for example, "if Murray wins England win their first Davis cup since 1998"
Re: A Perfect Storm of T888dom
Not so much a troll as a naive, rather insensitive individual who doesn't think through what he says before he's said it. Never did come across as the sharpest tool in the box ('tool' used metaphorically, not as an insult).
The real mystery lies with those who have kept him employed all these years.

Inverdale is even more insufferable at Wimbledon. At least here he has the occasional competent colleague whereas the Inverdale-Henman-Castle show is truly horrible, Henman would be ok except when he tries to say what Nadal, Djokovic etc need to be doing better. Which is rich

Re: A Perfect Storm of T888dom
I don't mind Inverdale at all, actually. Yes, probably a foot-in-mouth expert but such a traditional English man that he's almost cutely quaint in his enthusiasm for his own to the detriment of all else.
I regard him in the same vein as Jonathan Davies. I don't want Davies to be all objective and reasonable - he's entertaining because he has his ways, his bias, his unique personality that can't contain his true feelings.
Like I always say, I don't listen to commentary to be educated - I read my own game. I watch presenters and pundits to be entertained, and between Inverdaleisms and Johnathan being Jonathan "Look there! - There! - Stop it there!" I get entertained.
The real paint-drying guy for me is Guscott. If he was only a little more starched he'd need subtitles to give his opinions. Stiffness personified.

Yeah. The BBC have done their best to remove all evidence in shame. But if you google you will find the old 606 thread slating it.

So did he dress up or just make a comment then? Inverdale, Wood and Davies are all idiots. Just be happy Austin Healey is on BT.

It was a pre-game segment where inverdale had been "shrunk" onto a giant set via some kind of cheap CGI technique. The BBC had produced terrible hackneyed cliche introductions for all the games.
It then cut to inverdale doing a pitch side interview with Keith wood where he said something along the lines of "over to a real leprechaun" or something along those lines. I don't remember exactly. It was meant as a bit of fun but Keith woods reaction was just priceless. Wish I could find the footage.

I get your point and I don't mind the 'Englishness' of it at all (coz I is an outsider looking in ) But just technically speaking, you're wrong (as I'm sure some Welsh or Scots will point out in time!) - it's British TV. British licence fee payers fund it, not merely 'English' ones.

Yes the license fee payer has a right to better treatment than to have an anglocentric broadcaster who's nods to British diversity is to portray the scots as William Wallace cliches and the welsh as leek waving choirs with a mystical dragon.

Guscott is more xenophobic than Inverdale though. At least Inverdale tries to be "humourous" with it; but old stone face - "France are gonna lose" is like a bleak winter that just keeps showing up on the weather reports - 'more icy wind and showers today'.

Yeah I struggle to empathise with Guscott. He's fairly relentlessly sour and I find his analysis weak and nationalistic. He also jumps on the referee fairly quickly when things go wrong.

Seriously though he does always seem to fawn over the Welsh in his articles. Like Stuart Barnes with the Irish and Stephen Jones with New Zealand (ok, maybe not the last one).

Even I think Stuart Barnes is embarrassing. "Shut up, would you!!! Stop licking O'Brien's face" He does overcook things in HEC.... especially when you want your team (no matter how well known) to come in under the radar a tad. Nope! Not with Barnes as a town-crier mascot!

Couldnt agree with you more. 0 personality. He makes Andy Murray seem as interesting as Stephen Fry. Jokes aside I actually like Andy Murray's personality.
I think Guscott routinely sucks lemons before going on air though.
On an tangent of sorts, is Stephen Fry the most interesting person in Britain? Is he actually Oscar Wilde?

Moore is probably the most xenaphobic (he isnt really a xenaphobe at all) of the lot particularly when he talks about the French. He does it in such a buffoon manner though that you cant really take his ramblings seriously. He is good value for a laugh.

Dont get me started on the monarchy. Have you heard of the programme room 101?
Basically its a show where celebrities are invited to nominate things they dislike to be filed away forever in room 101 (some vault in the BBC). On a recent show German comedian Henning Wehn elected to put the royal family in room 101. It was absolutely hilarious yet the humorless audience booed him.
I understand why people in the UK like their monarchs. They seem like good people but it never fails to amaze me how pointless the whole institution is and how precious their subjects are of them.
As Henning Wehn remarked the should be given equal opportunities at social mobility. Dont deny them that right.

oops should have added a
actually agree with you although monarchy is part of the British folklore (a bit like the guillotine in ours). maybe the audience booed him because it was a baby (as opposed to something with royal in it)

He does. He started doing it about the same time he started getting invited on Scrum V. Not sure if one is cause and one effect or it's coincidence.
Regarding the monarchy, I'd do away with them (legally) immediately. It's said they bring in tourism but they would still go and visit the Palace, etc anyway. Also we could hire the royals on minimum wage to get their photo taken with Americans and live in the servent quarters of the palace.

No, the monarchy must stay. It's Guscott who must go. It's not just his Wales love-in (altho that should be enough to send him to the Tower), it's that he doesn't seem to say anything insightful or even particularly interesting. And he could crack a smile. His punditry seems to twist and turn - a bit like his running, only he doesn't get anywhere. I can only forgive him because I remember how good a centre he was, in the days when we had centres.

Germans mentality are becoming more british in recent years. They have great material to feel insecure about what there forefathers did... To be a comedian its allways a plus if you feel some self loathing.

I think you'll find GE that the BBC change thier lineup depending on who plays.
Scotland matches get scotland pundits and hosts. Wales matches get welsh pundits and hosts and so forth.
BBC is regional no? BBC Scotland, BBC Wales, BBC England etc.

Germany at football are maximising their potential... are they the worlds best ... not close.. but they have always done better then they should have done.
World cups
02 - final
06 - 3rd
10 - 3rd
stating a strong mentality is not just for winners.... its maximising your potential and then some.. achieving what you should never had achieved.
What teams would do for such mental strength.
