He was not far from shocking today; give Macarthur a chance. He hasn't been up to standard really since the 2009 lions tour. Never recaptured his form.

Ok. Team performanced ...blah blah blah. Fact is Ford's mistakes resulted in an awful lot of points. Time for him to be dropped.

Re: Ross ford must be dropped
Unfortunately with Rab C in charge he doesnt feel any pressure to do anything sensible like axe Ford as his role as director of Scottish rugby is in the bag.
The combination of having a hooker who cant do his job in the scrum, along with two tight heads who are far short of intenational class and his refusal to play an opnside flanker means Scotland have no chance of building a set piece platform or of stopping our opponents from having as many phases of play as they need to score.
I really fear for us next saturday. If we get really stufferd what chance will we have of getting a result in Rome?
How ironic if we are despatched in Rome by a player who represented Scotland U20's last season!

Re: Ross ford must be dropped
I've said it before: a hooker's job is to (A) hook the ball in the scrum,(B) throw the ball accurately at the line out.
To argue that Ford compensates for (A) a complete unwillingness to place himself in mortal danger by lifting his right leg from the floor and (B) a tendency to miss the pressure throws- yesterday he missed on a throw on their 5 metre line and on ours, by doing great work in the loose is to miss the point completely. If Ford is that good in the loose let him become a flanker, apparently we are so short of them we had to play with three number 8's yesterday.
A hooker's primary job is to hook and throw. If he won't/can't do these two tasks then there is no room for him in the team.
If Rab C perseveres with Ford on Saturday then he will have veered from sheer stubbornness to downright perversity and should be given the Arthur Scargill Floating Chrysanthemum Award for services to English Rugby.
On a final note did you see an Irish prop (Cian Healy) [b]SPRINTING[b] AWAY FROM Richie Gray? Time for a few harsh truths in training and possibly Ickle Jonny in the match 23.

Re: Ross ford must be dropped
It is a sad state of affairs - that even if the match was still going one and the Irish team had left the field, we would still lose out line out and not look like scoring a try
That game was a huge step back for us - terrible scrum - going backwards at a rate of knots - terrible line out - you KNEW any important ones would not work and our backs looking like head less chickens
The way Italy played and the way we played, I see them putting 20 points on us
GOD I AM DEPRESSED

Re: Ross ford must be dropped
The measure of a pro is easy to judge.
Blindsides are most often judged on tackles.
Opensides on turnovers or completed passes.
no.8s on carries
etc etc etc.
Ford as a hooker has 2 main jobs. Hit the man at the lineout and now under the new rules, hook the ball in the scrum. His failure to do so on 2 seperate occasions cost us 2 tries. Not to metion relieving the pressure on Ireland when we have kicked the ball into their 22 from penalties.
This situation is unacceptable. It’s just not good enough anymore to suggest his work in the loose is a substitute for the massive flaws in his technical game. The lineout when functioning well is probably the most powerful weapon a pack can wield. It puts the opposition under massive pressure when they can’t kick for touch and know that a lineout is gifting possession to the opposition.
Our pack were robbed of that weapon on Sunday and Launchberry and Lawes will be salivating at the thought of Ford playing on Saturday.

Re: Ross ford must be dropped
Laughably The Herald gives Ford 6 out of 10 (presumably?) and Taylor 4. Grant and Low get 5. Was Alisdair Reid actually watching the test yesterday or are these just arbitrary gradings. I would give Ford 1 out of 10 for putting his shirt on correctly otherwise zero. Hamilton would get 2 or 3 incidentally as he is culpable for the line out shambles too. Drop them both along with Laidlaw who was garbage yesterday too.

I was at Scotstoun on Friday and both Fraser Brown and Kevin Bryce look 10 times the player at 2 than Ford is/was. Time to tell him ( Ford (and Hamilton)) to go and close the door behind them.

So no Maitland on Saturday, things aren't improving, now without our two first choice wingers. Was Fraser Brown the hooker who got capped last year yet has played virtually no games at all for Glasgow?

Re: Ross ford must be dropped
Maybe put Ross Ford on the wing.
Means he will not have to throw the ball to anyone
and he is very good in the loose
