Women's Six Nations
A few years ago after the England v ABs match in Twickenham, Sky remained and broadcast a match between England Women and NZ Women. If memory serves me it was the first time that England W had beaten NZ W. Anyway, of more importance is that it was the first time the women had been allowed to play at Twickenham and they served up a pretty good game.
Whilst the Six Nations is going on between the chaps, there are two other competitions running parallel to it - the Women's and The U-20s. This year I believe I am right in saying that two of the Women's games will be shown live on the BBC after the corresponding Men's matches because they are being played in Twickenham and Lansdowne Road.
Last year Ireland beat England for the first time ever and completed their 6Ns with a Grand Slam. Although the other games are not being televised, the Beeb are giving (very) brief updates during the half-time breaks in thew Men's games and showing some of the tries scored.
Following is the fixture list and the results to date (I will endeavour to update this as the games happen). I have put in bold the two games which will be televised.
Fri 31 Jan 19:30 Ireland Women 59 – 0 Scotland Women Milltown House, Ashbourne RFC
Sat 1 Feb 20:55 France Women 18 – 6 England Women Stade des Alpes
Sun 2 Feb 13:00 Wales Women 11 – 12 Italy Women Talbot Athletic Ground
Fri 7 Feb 19:30 Ireland Women 14 – 6 Wales Women Milltown House, Ashbourne RFC
Sat 8 Feb 17:30 France Women 29 – 0 Italy Women Stade Ernest-Argeles
Sun 9 Feb 14:00 Scotland Women 0 - 63 England Women Rubislaw

Sun 23 Feb 14:00 Wales Women 0 - 27 France Women Talbot Athletic Ground

What a lovely written thread, thanks KiaRose
It will be a good matchup between the Irish and English women at Twickers but the Irish women do look very strong.

Thanks, Nachos.
Re England v Ireland. Last year the English Women were heavily involved in the 7s circuit and a lot of their players were missing. I think it is fair to say that that is why Ireland beat them quite handily in the end (25-0). I cannot see it being quite so easy this year. However, they will want to back up last year's result to prove that they really have moved forward, especially with the Women's World Cup coming up later this year (for which Ireland qualified last year).
So onwards and upwards - after the Ireland and England Mens' results yesterday, there could be a really cracking double header in twickenham in a couple of weeks time.

Scored by their winger (Sergeant) RDW.RDW_Scotland wrote:Scotland women scored points!!
Looking at the match report, the Italian women seem to have something which their men's team could do with - a reliable goal kicker. Their OH Schiavon converted 3 of their 7 tries and 3 penalties.

French ladies win 19-15 against Ireland means they secure their (first ever?) GS. Congrats

Re: Women's Six Nations
France have set themselves up nicely for the Womern's RWC in August this year (1st - 17th) in France by winning the GS. Sky Sports will be televising the games.
The pools are:
A:
Canada
England
Samoa
Spain
B
Ireland
Kazakhstan
New Zealand
USA
C
Australia
France
South Africa
Wales
The semi-finals will be contested by the three pool winners and the best runner-up. Best pool winner plays runner-up and other two pool winners play in the other SF.
As in the JWC, all the other teams will play again after the pool stages for rankings 5-12.
All details from IRB here

Re: Women's Six Nations
Kia - does that mean Scotland are not in the world cup?
Shows how bad the women's game in Scotland is if Kazakhstan qualify and we don't...!
Another dismal 6N for the women (just like the men!) but on the plus side, at least they scored a try this year!

Re: Women's Six Nations
Yes, RDW, they are not in it.
I am not sure what the standard of Women's rugby in Kazakhstan is; looking at the pools, Pool C would appear to be a group of Death, however, that would be looking at it through the prism of men's rugby. France are obviously very good, but Wales? SA? Aus? Sorry can't help you on those.
