England vs Wales 9th March
First topic message reminder :
Let's look towards the next game after getting ourselves back on track against France, just like last year, after the Irish put the spanner in the works.

The Welsh taught him a more overstated ebullient way to celebrate. Not like the more modest Ashton celebration.

So who are we all supporting today?
Surely it's underdog day.

I'm supporting scratch, and PSW; I'm looking for big weekends from both of them. Some insightful comments from the first whistle, a solid middle section not leaking any points before half time. The abrasive pair with contrasting styles should present plenty of entertainment and a interesting contest of styles for the neutral.

Re: England vs Wales 9th March
Surprised to read both ESPN and Planet Rugby's previews have Wales to get a narrow win. Surprising seeing everything written is about the exciting and impressive young England lads rather than the faltering welsh...?
Roman Poite often favours a stronger scrum, I presume the journos are alluding to Wales pipping England up front again...?

Hence why I specifically excluded Jonny May from the bullying bit.

Perhaps he was a late developer?
I remember the year group two ahead of me at school - one little kid was often being bullied (in fact I once went head to head with his prime bullier who was a big fecker who was pushing some of my friends around - I lost but mashed his nose and never again were my friends picked on). This kid left for the summer holidays between 4th and 5th forms (years 10/11 for youngsters) a titch, came back 6 inches taller and built like a brick outhouse.

Re: England vs Wales 9th March
If you look at recent history and with England at home I can't see how there's going to be anything other than an English win and a comfortable one at that.
Since the Lions I haven't seen one game where Wales gave been convincing.
Against France they defended well, but France still got around them but were unable to convert the score due to forced passes.
The welsh front row isn't as potent.
Newbie at lock. Lost charteris.
Lydiate not on form
Rhys Webb newbie
Priestland hot and cold
JD2 not match fit
HP loss of form since lions
Hibbard can't throw.
AWJ can't catch.
Falatau isn't as good a ball carrier as Ben Morgan.
Gatlands tactics doesn't have a Plan B.
So, having picked up the above "facts" regarding Wales I cannot conceivably see how on earth Wales can win.

Ah, thank you Slartibartfast for redefining the word "fact". There was me thinking that a fact is something that is known to be true, or you could say, the truth about events as opposed to interpretation. But as every one of your "facts" is open to interpretation I shall put out some of my own that will prove beyond doubt that Wales will triumph!
England backs are the size of minnows
Brown is a better goalie than he is a full back
Ben Morgan is Welsh
May is afraid of Cuthbert
Twelvetrees has never been on form
etc ...
... and with those facts there can only be one winner, Cymru am byth!

I can see England beating us the Ronan O'Gara way. Kick into touch in our territory and give our lineout a hard time. Our lineout is the likely Achilles' heel. If we can win our lineout ball ok we've got a decent chance, if it goes to pot, we're in for a long day.

Rugger my "facts" is a summary of some of the chaff I come across on this board ( AWJ is Naf in the lineout though)
Wales have generally been poor , another win at twickenham would be one of the biggest shocks in welsh rugby history and a nightmare for Lancaster.

Wales are the only top tier team that England have consistently lost to under Lancaster. They haven't scored a try against Wales since before the last work cup.

I can
England have missed the most tackles and have the worst tackle success % in the tournament.
England haven't beaten Wales for 3 years
England haven't scored a try v Wales for 3 years.

Just out of interest how many point would either Wales or England have too win by to give them a chance of winning the tournament?
After watching today's Ireland v Italy game and the amount of points Ireland scored.

The only hope for either side title-wise is that France beat Ireland in the final game.
As for tomorrow, I'll say England by 6 but it really is very close. All three results a possibility.
Giving England the nod...just.

Re: England vs Wales 9th March
Yes of course rugby will be the winner, but which of these two sides will score the greater number of points, that is the question we're all keen to know?
My two pennith; well I think who dares most will win.
Is there a question mark against the Welsh given they didn't turn up in Dublin?
Is there a question mark against the English given their injuries and indifferent selection management?
Ultimately it will be down to the players on the field on the day, however how much of that will be influenced by their respective coaching team’s abilities/decisions.........
Let's just hope that both sides take full advantage of the perfect conditions. Creativity, accuracy, power and pace......the world will be watching.

yes, but losing to japan, samoa, argentina, etc, etc is what stops wales being a "top tier" side. oh, and not beating SA/Aus/NZ in recent memory which would have gone some way you counteracting the more embarrassing losses IRB-rankings-wise.Scratch wrote:quinsforever wrote:on any given day, lots of teams lose to weaker sides.

Then we look to wales losing to japan, so how many times have you beat japan again? Not the team you support,You? Come on enlighten us.
You two are the ultimate arm chair fans who do little else because you see yourself in the same bracket of success as a team you support, you coat tail results like all should bow to you for the success of others.
Anyways best if luck tomorrow Madge and quins hope you both play well.

Fans can say a lot but when they start to act bigger than they are an see it as a reason to look down on other fans because of the success of a team they happen to support I'm sorry but that is delusional,
Like a Tyson fan thinking he could knock any one out because he backs Tyson.

quins did you eat a bad curry tonight?
what is 'embarassing' is fielding 1 lion on a winning tour, failing to beat or even score a try v a 2nd tier side for 3 years and squandering numerous grand slam 6 nations campaigns...1999 (5 nations) 2011. 2013....i know there are many more.

Anyway guys enough with the petty wumming it'll be a fantastic occasion and I honestly can't see much between the two sides. Wales will definitely have the psychological edge and for me, have more firepower to seal a close game with one act of brilliance. Either way, imo, its Ireland's tournament to lose and I can't see a woeful france side preventing them next week in Paris.

You know what.
I wouldn't even mind if Ireland did beat France next week and win the tournament.
Obviously there's still two games left for us to play but I see nothing in Englands games so far to say that they're the best of the 6Nations.
Likewise Ireland and Wales but i'll let Ireland have it as they're pretty friendly and that BOD bloke seems like a good player.

Ireland are putting in the performances and deserve it so far as I am concerned, even though England beat them closely. France are poor, with a chance of a 1st or 2nd place being travesty of fortune... Wales ? 2nd/3rd place playoff with England ..Will know later.
