England vs Wales final anyone? A rematch with even more at stake so us English can choke even worse than last time playing against the last remaining 23 Welsh rugby players standing...

Re: England v Wales - 12th March 2016
Wales down to 10 men.... last throw of the dice.
England have won the penalty after their last gasp drop goal attempt failed, bounced off the bar and landed at the feet of Roberts, who ate the thing in a mixture of dark-art tactics and delirium. Penalised for the delirium as the 80 weren't up.
Everyone out on their feet. Gatland on a valium drip. Biggar on his way to hospital with a broken toe and broken heart.
England down to 14 men. Farrell sent off for headbutting Robshaw. Ford steps up. 20 yards out. Robshaw thinks long and hard this time. Is tempted to try again........... but sees sense................... but no, maybe................. yeah, sense....................... no hold on a second, maybe another try............................ sense............................ try?............................. sense................................... back his forwards???...................................no, sense............................

Wales just scraped by Fiji. Let's be real for a change. Wales may not qualify out of the pool. Just shows how tough this group has been and will be for the next two weeks. (IF England beat Australia).

Wales won 23-10 after having beaten England five days earlier...!
We might go out of the pool stages but we have three wins under our belt and no one else does yet.

What? Even your inflated scoreline still doesn't mean its a foregone conclusion that Wales will qualify.

So true... It's no where nearly over....
And yes, Wales may not qualify.... But I'd just like to point out... England may not qualify ... Let's not forget that.

I dearly wish England hadn't lost but, even a few days on, I can still admire the spirit and skill shown by that Welsh side.
When English fans and pundits say we shouldn't have lost, it doesn't reflect any firm conviction we had before the match that we would definitely beat Wales. It's simply based on how the game unfolded, and the way an even moderately disciplined side would have turn our advantages on the day into a win.

Fact is Wales have played three and won three. Australia played two won two.
England have won one lost one, now face the best Australian team we have seen in years who they must beat to stay in the World Cup.

That means we will see a really good England team if they beat Australia. Beating such a formidable side as that would be a real feather in our cap. Wouldn't look good for Wales the following week though. When did Wales beat the mediocre Australia teams recently?

Look don't try to stoke a fire mate. I'm just agreeing with what you said. You said Australia is the best side they've had for years. So, if we beat them then that's good isn't it? It means England would be a pretty good side wouldn't it? By your own statement.
Also, if this is the best they've had for years then the sides Wales played against must have been mediocre by comparison. Just extrapolating what you said. So if Wales haven't beaten mediocre Australian sides before then they must be in a bad place next week surely?
Just agreeing with what you said.

Could've done with the same ref you had, that allowed three of your tries to stand. No justice in this world.

You are the most wildly confident poster on here, never a seed of doubt that England are anything but the greatest team on the planet while you also continuously remind us all that Wales are the most over rated, over hyped team supported by what appears to be a ridiculously delusional nation.

Re: England v Wales - 12th March 2016
Well, if this is the best Australian team in years, Wales SHOULD be highly concerned as they haven't been able to beat them at low ebb so it's logical to think it will be harder to beat when they're better. In reality it doesn't work like that because some teams' play styles are suited to beating certain teams but vulnerable to others, etc.
However, Wales are in a position they may not need to beat Australia because they beat England. The fact England played Fiji first is probably a big factor in this now due to bonus points. Tomorrow will tell us where we are and what Wales (and England and Australia) need to do to go through. But 1 win for each of the big three against the others is a real possibility, and it's a shame more pools are this tight.

Does anyone else think that Fiji were reffed out of the Wales game in the second half? I thought a disproportionate number of calls went against a very good attacking Fiji side. I bet they are pretty disappointed right now.

Despite is being a nervous wait and could still come down to us beating Australia if someone had said to me before the start that we would be 3 from 3 going into last round with destiny in our own hands then I would have been happy with that.

Had no choice Maes, doubt if Jenkins could have gone full 80, our scrum was no better or worse with him on though

I'm gonna give you that one Gory, that is a great appraisal of the Aus, Wales and England situation - You are taking Cognitive Dissonance Theory to another level and I like it. For what its worth if England beat Aus and IMO they have a 50/50 chance then they deserve to go through and will probably make the final. The rest we'll just have to wait and see. Wales will get a pasting from Aus by the way but you probably knew that already.

England/Wales is so last week dudes. THE game of the moment is England/Aus. England win - I think we're through, Wales for an early bath. England lose - we're gone (and so is SL).
However just to be on topic - the England/Wales debate is 2 bald men fighting over a comb. Neither will go too far.

England win and their in the final as runners up and Wales are out of the tournament - Simples
Win-win situation for Wales at the moment given the setbacks and going out with 3/4 will be no great shame. Its in Englands hands, can they deliver?

Re: England v Wales - 12th March 2016
It does feel rather stupid that we could easily end up with the situation that there are 3 top teams in the same group who could all be on one loss and one of those will not qualify for the next round. (And if that is the case it won't be England, because by a single blade of painted grass we got the bonus point vs Fiji...)
So yeah - beat Australia and we are through, and given how well Wales typically do against Australia still in the running to top the group.... Easy innit..

That would be a seismic event. Won't happen because out of the three 'top teams' England are the best at scoring (not, it seems, winning at the moment but that is different) and also because England are likely to play some of the fringe players who are just the kind who might actually show some form and score a lot of points

I believe you guys won. Unless that was a horrible dream.
Fact is, England, Australia and Wales could all beat each other. I would say that Australia were and are the favourites and that Wales, at the beginning of the tournament, were the outsiders. Anyone who thought otherwise was probably kidding themselves. That's not to say that Wales were outsiders by much, nor Aus favourites by much.
I think Aus will beat England and Wales at the moment. Hope I'm wrong on both actually, the Wales team have really won me over a bit with their never say die attitude in the face of adversity!

The big thing for us going into next weekends game is we now have 10 days rest where some of our big names who have played the full 80 last 2 games can rest recoup etc as much as possible under Gatlands regime and it will give players like Liam Williams and Paul James to hopefully come through ok.

Re: England v Wales - 12th March 2016
How come Wales get to play at HOME in an ENGLAND RWC.
What bright spark in the organising committee allowed that to happen especially when they are in our group.
England are the hosts and therefore wherever they play, they will be at home, but why give Wales an advantage over all the other teams in the group. If I were an Australian, I would be fuming at the advantage given to them.
As has been said previously, home advantage tends to result in the 50/50 decisions going the home teams way. Without those decisions Wales could easily have lost last night, that would have put Australia and England in a much better position.

About fair then neutral ground, about as many Australians in London as there are Welshmen in Wales, or so it seems sometimes.

They were - when the WRU actually put to them the suggestion of playing their game against Wales in the Millennium. The Aussie's said "are you guy's pulling our leg?" The Welsh with a straight face said: "No. No, it'd be best for the competition and a money earner for us, and it would only be coincidental that we'd also have a pretty big home advantage element. So what'dya say?' The response is unprintable.

I actually think Wales offered England a choice of playing at the Millennium. In hindsight was that such a ridiculous suggestion

Apparently there's a deal that any home nation's bid has to include the Millennium Stadium as a venue. I don't like it at all, and I think it could well have been different if we'd played Fiji in Milton Keynes or wherever, but there you go.

Don't think you are remembering correctly, Bedford. Most people I read certainly thought Wales had a chance. Sure, the majority of public predictions were for an England win, but that doesn't equate to giving Wales no chance of victory.
I was less confident of a win before the match started than I was at about the sixty minute mark, which just shows how much English hopes were raised and dashed.

No as Fiji continued to get away with flopping all over the breakdown and trying to take out our driving mauls illegally. Funny you say just second half, I would assume you think Wales were reffed out in the first half? That's where Fiji began their offences but occasionally got away with boring in right under Lacey's nose. Seeing as Lacey missed a lot of high tackles and crooked lineout throws for both teams I'm convinced he is one of the worst officials in this tournament. Only Barnes, Owens and Garces have been good enough so far IMO.
You're probably right about Fiji being disappointed having lost three from three. I would doubt they're as disappointed as England who "always back themselves at home" though.

I'd have to agree that the England team and staff will be disappointed and I wouldn't be surprised if they were angry with themselves as well. Will certainyl be interesting how they start the 1st 20 min. Hang over or response?

As has been said previously, home advantage tends to result in the 50/50 decisions going the home teams way. Without those decisions Wales could easily have lost last night, that would have put Australia and England in a much better position.
Of course. Keep trying but "we always back ourselves at home."

I think England will start well, as they did against Fiji and Wales, and against Ireland in the warm-ups; the question for me is how they will respond if they find themselves defending a lead and the Wallabies start coming back at them, as Ireland and Wales did.
