2014 v2 Hall of Fame
Hi all,
In 2012 we launched our first v2 Hall of Fame vote. After weeks of voting, the eventual inductee turned out to be Ali, and not Scott Hastings as had been widely tipped at launch.
The way the competition worked was to get all boards talking to each other and joining in the debate. And it worked!
We set up daily polls allowing people to state why they thought their nominee should be inducted. We also got people to write summaries of the reasons why.
Well this year is going to work in the same fashion in that we will get people to champion their nominations. But this year, the second inductee into the hall of fame is going to be a sports movie.
We have shortlisted 64 of the greatest sports movies ever made - I am sure that there will be omissions and some films that people will moan about. But the list is finalised as we speak - what we need now are writers to champion each film.
If you fancy championing a film, then please let us know and we can assign you a film(s). If you have a film you would really want to champion, then please let me know and we will see if its still available.
The competition will have a twice weekly poll on a Monday and Thursday. Each poll will close on the following Monday/ Thursday respectively.
So hope that makes sense - get in touch if you want to write!!
We are aiming to start next week, so do it soon!

Remember The Titans - Denzel Washington
Miracle - Kurt Russell
And no sports movie hall of fame would be complete without the Emilio Estevez classic, The Mighty Ducks!

If anything involving Vinnie Jones gets into a hall of fame for, well, anything, I may have to hand in my membership badge to the human race.

Most of the films mentioned are on the list, so if anyone wants to write a blurb as to why they should win, please let me know.
Re: 2014 v2 Hall of Fame
There's Only One Jimmy Grimble deserves a mention. Great film.

As hunting is a sport the deer hunter should be on the list.

If the last round of voting is anything to go by, I look forward to repeated postings from Super_Realist that there are no good sports films and that he prefers to go out and make films of his own sporting prowess.

Re: 2014 v2 Hall of Fame
Hi all, me again.
I am posting below the first lot of films going up against each other.
I dont want people to start discussing these as they will be placed in groups in the coming week and a half - just looking for volunteers to write a symopsis on each before it goes to a vote.
Slapshot
The Legend of Bagger Vance
National Velvet
Big Wednesday
Gregorys Girl
Any given Sunday
The Mighty Ducks
This Sporting Life
When Saturday Comes
The Wrestler
If you fancy writing something, please keep it under 500 words. Thanks! You can PM me your nominations and I will delete them as they are written from the list.
Thanks again

Re: 2014 v2 Hall of Fame
Any consideration for Bull Durham, Downhill Racer, Hoosier and/or Breaking Away?
Plus favourite moment in film with a vaguely sports-related scene is Brian Glover leading the boys on to the field to the strains of the MOTD theme in Kes.
Otherwise Susan Sarandon in the bath in Bull Durham!

Re: 2014 v2 Hall of Fame
Glad to see Any Given Sunday up there.
I assume you've also considered Ali, Invictus, Rush, Cinderella Man (not for Russell Crowe, mind, but for Paul Giamatti wiping the floor with him), Friday Night Lights, All the Right Moves, Strictly Ballroom, Cool Runnings, Rollerball and Dodgeball. And Murderball, When We Were Kings and Senna, if you're considering documentaries. I might even be prepared to write about some of them, especially Rush.
You could also consider The Adventures of Robin Hood (it has an archery contest) and Day of the Jackal (do not try to tell me that assassinating the French president isn't a sport).
I confidently predict, however, that one of Ali and When We Were Kings will win. Because that's how v2 rolls.
