Oh dear. I'm sure he was lying on the ground debating whether he should stay down until the lights were turned off before getting back up.

Sometimes you don't even need to dive, as Carlin Isles (THE FASTEST MAN IN RUGBY) proves on his 15 a side debut

Re: How not to swallow dive
I can see it now... detailed pamphlets issued by future coaching staff to players on how exactly not to swallow dive and hence how to avoid monumental man sausage-ups of this nature.
Step 1: Do NOT jump. Research has indicated that the preliminary phase of swallow diving is accumulation of upward momentum through the legs and subsequent angling of the body once in flight. This can be counteracted by simply diffusing the initial element which sets the dive in motion: jumping
Step 2: Keeping both hands on the ball and both feet on the floor, place the ball down gently between your legs
Congratulations, you have successfully avoided the risk of making yourself look like a right plonker and a lifetime of humiliation.
Additionally there's always the quick fix: play on concrete. Nobody would dare take a dive then

Can I just say that Isles' try shouldn't have been disallowed?

It was very marginal, he knocks it backwards technically then loses control as he puts it down

Yeah but he has pressure on the grounding and it doesn't go forward and that's what matters, right?

Kiwi's can only dream that Ashton does there here in front of a packed Eden Park, 80 minutes up with the scores level...the collective response would be...well....special...

But if would either be the ref's fault, the flu or some other nasty little germ that got to the NZ team

Its one of my biggest regrets not getting to see Ashton drop the ball in and England shirt whilst diving in mid air and with MJ as coach, his reaction would have been a very special thing to see!

Don't worry, the day Ashton is given time to even think about performing a swan dive vs the AB's let alone have the 5 seconds it takes him to launch and spread his beautiful ivory coloured feathers will be a day that never happens. Only Tuilagi gets to walk in like a Sunday stroll in the park but even that will be a oncer, Hansen will have very special treatment for young Manu... believe me.

That's worrying r-w. We all know what special team treatment tactics are reserved for dealing with worrying incoming threats.
Poor old Manu.
Lancaster will need a team of archaeologists to extract Manu from his ritual vertical Maori grave.

I hope you mean they're actually going to tackle him this time and not unpleasant off the ball cheating.
Not his greatest but...

Considering what Manu did to France after having half of his ear ripped off then I hope the AB's know what they are doing if that is the case

Good article that though regarding the Bradley Davies 'assault' didn't the perpetrator go visit him in hospital ?
It's still shocking he remained on the pitch though.

Spot on article!
I too have marvelled in the past at the extent to which NZ players, coaches, commentators and analysts can get away with blatantly refusing to acknowledge these things, while being all too happy to point towards similar infringements by opposition teams (like the Andy Powell arm-smash to McCaw's throat, 2010 I think)
