Part Moyes, part the squad SAF left him. Naive in the extreme to think yesterday would've ended up any different with SAF at the helm

Whats your gripe with Bayern? What modern vices do they represent? Cheap tickets? Reasonably justifiable salaries? Low-ish transfer expenditure? Awesome fans?

As for tonight, not sure how Moyes is going to somehow surprise Bayern tactically & get more possession. Everyone knows, Rooney at below 90% of fitness is non-effective, especially at this level. Playing & thrashing the Newcastle B side last week might have given confidence but can see Bayern turning the screw tonight. 3-1 to Bayern.

Congrats Kia, Simeone (dunno if I spelt that right) has done a fabulous job, easily manager of the year across Europe, without Diego Costa for the majority of this tie as well!

I think it's quite clear that Moyes threw Rooney on the pitch more in hope then expectation with his injury.

from the BBC live text on the Atletico Barca game:
"We have the Champions League last four then. Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich will join Real Madrid and Manchester United in Friday's draw"
whoops
in all fairness, Man u put up a decent fight over both legs, much better than most expected, but Barca had that bit of extra class. I'm not too sure about them though, they haven't really impressed me over both legs, and a team with a solid defense and pace on the counter could hurt them. Remind you of anyone?

Dunno special juan, reckon fergie might have got rid of rooney.
At the end of the day he can't do it at the highest elite level but is paid an elite salary. That doesn't add up.

United can take a lot of positives from the game tonight, more than matched the best team in the world for the first half, took the lead in the 2nd half, but just 3 lucky goals with a bit of poor defending was the killer. Can be proud though and gives them confidence for the rest of the season.
That goal from Evra was something special, pub went mental! I found myself jumping up and down and i wasn't even drinking.
Good game, but tonight belongs to ...

As I said last week, it's a situation that suited Moyes, underdogs, set his side out to frustrate Bayern and try to nick something.
Unfortunately Bayern are just too good for this United team.

Yeah but we didn't even make them worked hard for it, missed most of the few chances we created and gifted them goals by defending crosses very poorly.

TBH the unknown element of Athletico worries me most as a PL (chelsea) fan.
Its unknown territory.
Chelsea could out United United 10 fold based on those two games and make the win stick v Bayern.
But does anyone know if Atletico's Keeper play against chelsea?

Re: CL Last 16
think moyes should have taken rooney off as the first change, he was truly shocking. at least wellbeck was offering a threat in behind stretching them and was a target. im sure people will blame the "injury" but he was just as poor in the first leg. not sure how a bruised toe can effect your game so badly and if so then dont play him the big girl
think it shows where we currently are that, people are saying good effort by us despite us being played off the pitch over two legs. wasnt that long ago that we could go head to head with any of these teams playing our own attacking way. and im not ready to accept that we should should just sit back and accept this.
of course this started under fergie, but under fergie we'd still come at any team at old trafford. and thats my biggest criticism with moyes over these two legs was that we were so defensive and poor at OT and some fans and moyes himself all went around and declared that 1-1 was some great result. think it showed tonight that if we had something to protect we really did have a chance with them.
anyway season over and pretty shocking all round. par in champions league i suppose, people are saying we did well purely because we have been so poor in everything else. feel its going to be a long summer for us with moyes at the helm

United played well for 60 minutes but giving up that goal within a minute of scoring the go ahead goal I knew that there was only going to be one winner. Bayern still look like the big favorite. I'd love to see Atleti pull off the Cinderella story and win this thing and pull the league double. They have a fraction of the payroll and transfer budget of the other sides left in the competition. Yet, they have been punching above their weight for a few seasons now under Simeone, maybe Simeone has taken the mantle as that big difference making manager who can lead a side to the biggest trophies with little money like Jose did at Porto.

Atletico president has said he will not play if we meet in the semi. Apparently there's an agreement that they'd have to pay us around £8m or £4m per game to play him.
Re: CL Last 16
There is a clause that states Atleti must pay 3 million euros per game. If not he can't play. Despite being a factory for selling talent Atletis debt makes that impossible.

2011 final was, but as i said this has started under fergie in recent years but not at OT, this being in a neutral venue against a better barca team. bayern are good but they aint got anybody near messi, inestia or then xavi.
certainly wasn't how we played in the 08 and 09 finals. 09 we were beat fair and square but we play a very attacking team. we have to strive to get back to the 08/09 level. even if you dont take into account getting beat by the best team in recent history you only have to look at when we got knocked out against bayern in 10, we were battering them at home all until rafael got sent off. the difference between that tie and this one was astronomical

I may be in the minority but I think Moyes did not hurt United with his set up or the dubs. They had bayern frustrated and if Valencia checked his run by just step they could have won this tie. He might of taken off Rooney sooner but a player like Rooney is the only world class guy you got in there and maybe he does something magical on a set piece or delivers something special

Re: CL Last 16
Yeah but that isn't the reason they lost the match. If ManU was just a little more clinical in finishing they could have pulled off an epic smash and grab and stole this tie from Munich. They had little of the ball in the first tie but actually created the better chances. And for the first 60 minutes of the match United had less of the ball and created less in terms of shots but the best opportunities again where in United's favor. Wellbeck and Rooney left a lot of chances in these two matches begging and Wellbeck was robbed of a goal that really shouldn't have been waived off. Don't get me wrong United were not the better team and they were outplayed but if anything Moyes had the right tactics and lineup that gave them the best chance to win against a side they were always going to be underdogs in. Maybe he should have done a couple of little things differently hindsight is 20/20 but United had good chances at goal and kept Bayern bottled up till 150 minutes in this tie. He may not be the right man for the job but I think he did a good job in putting his team in a good position in this tie and was a bit unfortunate at the wastefulness of strikers that didn't deliver on this ocassion.

I agree. Tactics close to spot on.
Moyes is going slightly up in my estimation . however it still doesn't make him a top club manager just proven to be a good underdog one.
It just has brought him back to how he was at Everton.
