First topic message reminder :
Part Moyes, part the squad SAF left him. Naive in the extreme to think yesterday would've ended up any different with SAF at the helm

to be fair you did a moyes/mourinhio/pulis- so well organised- you cant counter a team that isnt attacking and trying to play counter- so it may not have been embarrasing

Well organised defensive teams will cause any team problems. Look at Liverpool's 11 game win streak ending.

What a shambles of a game.
Embarrassing antics from both teams, chiefly Scarface leading with a little bitch slap.
It's all going to kick off in the second half, isn't it?
Premier club competition in the world?
This is cringeworthy to watch.

What? All I'm saying (in a long winded way) is that they look a shadow of the team they were last year and I'd say they had better players now than then!! Real are doing to them what they did to Barcelona and the irony is that it's the same style of football.

Must say, I'm undecided over whether Real's counter is better now vs the Mourinho side.
Think it's faster now - what with Modric replacing Khedira, and Bale sort of replacing Ozil.... But it was more... efficient under Mourinho.

on the counter bale is a much better player than ozil. probably only his team mate next to him who is more dangerous than bale on the break

Re: CL Last 16
I can't see how anybody can deny that Bayern have regressed under Pep, they were dominant in Europe last season this year they have looked fairly average and that's down to the style he has them playing. A one trick pony who had the benefit of having world class players who had already been moulded by Riijkaard.

A shadow of the team? They're still in the semis of the CL, won the Bundesliga better than last year, they've fallen off over the past month and had a dip, but they've not regressed massively! Also gotta take into account pep has been dealing with the loss of one of his best mates over the last week, would imagine his mind is elsewhere tbh
How about some credit for Madrid?! There's not many that could handle a Bale/Ronaldo/Di Maria counter

to slow in the build up with the players they have- they over play- its just obvious- these players are not barca players- they are just as good IMO- but this system doesn't suit. And its not just us noticing it- The Bayern fans may be glad with winning the Bundes- but they dont like his style either. I wouldn't be surprised if he goes

its not the counter thats killed them, its the inability to defend set pieces thats cost them. of course now the counter will be massive but it wouldnt have if they could defend corners

well to be honest they could have been 3 down due to the counter- bales pass to ronnie on the counter- and bale should have clipped that ball in from 40 yards when the keeper was nowhere- as also ronnie could have.
yes shocking defending in the set piece- but even without that - RM still well on top threatening counter

You evolve sensibly using the strengths of your team but you don't try replicating what you did with a different set of players with a totally different skillset. Pep is the most over rated manager in world football and I hope Bayern fall to pieces with him in charge.

Passed on the food chain by what exactly? Madrid are playing no differently to what they would have played like against Barcelona under Guardiola. Madrid have a strike force worth £200m. Teams have off days, Bayern will be back in the summer. Lewandowski will improve them ten fold.

You forget Olly -His success at Barca was handed to him, so it doesn't count. And the Bundesliga isn't even a proper league, so it doesn't count. Therefore, Pep hasn't done sheiet

Yet he still won the Bundesliga and has a team in the Champions League semi-final. People will remember the numbers, not that one game against Madrid. Ridiculous.
Raf, REALLY? It's the Bundesliga so it doesn't count? Even more ridiculous.

Each coach has his own beliefs and philosophies on how to play and these are expressed in their sides. That said Bayern definitely aren't identical in style to Peps Barca. You only have to see who's playing up front for that.

Taking over Riijkaards Barca and then Heynckes Bayern is probably the easiest path to success you could hope for and whether you or anyone wants to admit it, Bayern have gone backwards.Olly wrote:Hammersmith harrier wrote:There's more to it than looking at the numbers Olly, he has no tactical variety and that one gameplan has been found out in the past couple of years.
