606v2 Mock Draft: #1-Houston Texans

With the draft either 1 month or (1 month -1 day) away, and pro days largely in the books, I thought it might be interesting to start a collective mock draft.

Simply vote for the player you feel the team is likely to take in this scenario, no trades.

Personally, I might not be in the majority crowning Clowney (giggle) after his pro day (athletic freak tests great in drills *rolls eyes*), but I can't see how the Texans can pass on a QB here. Its just too important to have one in todays NFL especially for a franchise that was held back from being a contender by the limitations of Schaub.

I wouldn't want to do this, but given there position at number 1 plus the fact that I don't see someone trading up with them and that they have no viable QB you have to take a QB.

I went Teddy Bridgewater.
Not prepared to go for the raw Bortles or the bizarre Manziel. I am also a general believer in trusting earlier evaluations on QBs (providing the person involved doesn't collapse during the season) and not getting caught up in hype pre draft. Teddy came into the season as the presumed top QB, and whilst he didn't set the world on fire, he didn't destroy it either!

Don't think there's a QB worth the #1 pick and someone like Carr or Mettenburger in the 2nd would be just as good as Bortles for me

I went with Jadeveon Clowney. If they go for a QB I think it could be Blake Bortles. The other option is Jake Matthews.

I think everyone knows my feelings on Teddy B by now. He's the man for the pick.

I went for Clowney. I think they could take a solid qb in the 2nd/3rd. With Watt on the same line Clowney shouldn't face the double/triple teams he faced in college. It would also take some pressure off him because he wouldn't have to be the big man on defence.

For those not going Clowney, I'm slightly surprosed that Bridgwater is the only QB picked.

Is he the stand out best? Reading what I can of their pro-days, Combine etc.. I would of thought Manziel would be the top QB, with Bortles perhaps 2nd rated?

Bridgewater is clearly the best and don't let anyone tell you differently.

I know nothing about these QBs other than what I've read over the last few months but I read one article on NFL.com last week that said Bridgewater couldn't throw. Pretty strong accusation to throw at a QB and would be a bit of a red flag!

That said i remember the "Tank for Teddy" chat last season.
