Gene Haas granted F1 Team License
Gene Haas received official notice from the FIA on Thursday that they have granted him a Formula One license.
“Obviously, we’re extremely pleased to have been granted a Formula One license by the FIA,” Haas said in a release. “It’s an exciting time for me, Haas Automation and anyone who wanted to see an American team return to Formula One.
“Now, the really hard work begins. It’s a challenge we embrace as we work to put cars on the grid.”
Haas formed Haas Automation in 1983 and entered NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Series in 2002. After partnering with Tony Stewart and changing the name of the operation to Stewart-Haas Racing, he won a title a decade later with Stewart behind the wheel.
Although he has not ruled out campaigning a F1 team for 2015, at Fontana Haas said time was of the essence to build an operation that could compete next season. A press conference is expected to address some of the particulars on Monday.
Still, he expressed his gratitude to FIA for their approval.
“I want to thank the FIA for this opportunity and the diligence everyone put forth to see our license application come to fruition.”

I haven't really read too much into this but he's certainly got Motorsport pedigree & it's in his blood. I reemeber hearing they've got their own wind tunnel facility & have agreed to use Ferrari engines. Sounds promising. I'll await to see how competitive they truly are, if they are entered for 2015. If they are equal or as worse than Marussia or Caterham, then it won't be pretty.

Just remind him that the car has to turn right and not just Left and it'll be fine. Can't be any worse then Caterham/Marussia they slower then GP2.

As soon as Haas made it known the size of their bank budget greedy Bernie's eyes were out on stalks and Haas were always going to be in as his sweatly little palms rubbed together greedily.
As for Haas has connections with the Stewart family then surely Sir Jackie (who has kept in the F1 loop) may be of help with what technicalities there are in F1 to help them designing their car with as few problems as possible.

Fixed that for you.
Also, I think the Stewart in question is Tony Stewart, the former NASCAR and Indycar driver (and champion), not our Sir Jackie.

Cheers dyrewolfe. Well blows the Jackie Stewart idea out of the water. The big problem for this team will be adapting.

Thats my thinking too.
From what little I know, US motorsport tends to be pretty simple, both technologically and regulation-wise.
F1, by comparison, is absolutely awash with technical intricacies and legal stumbling blocks. For anyone not already familiar with them, it could be a nightmare. Thats one of my main concerns about the sport.
Its hard enough for us fans to keep on top of rule changes, in the most basic sense, so we can follow the on-track action etc.
For a new team trying to break into the sport, which needs to understand everything in minute detail, in order to produce competitive cars, schedule testing, generally plan their season etc. it must be absolutely horrible.

Agreed. I would say it is essential that they get someone in who knows all the intricacies of F1 in and out - Ross Brawn springs to mind. If not him then someone who knows what it takes to design and develop a F1 car whilst remaining within F1's strict design and development parameters.

At least they'll only be 1 year off compared to Caterham/Marussia/HorribleRacingTeam

Budget is the key for those teams flopping though. That is why to me it made absolutely no sense to me when recently Ecclestone re-organised the payments so the big teams got more money and smaller teams got less.

Ecclestone needs to keep the McLarens and Ferraris well funded. There'll always be idiots billionaires willing to pour money into a team for a few years

Yes but the zany thing was that this move came shortly after he had said he wanted to attract new teams to F1 - some way to do it by cutting new teams funding.

Agree it makes no sense whatsoever.
Seems this "budget cap" idea was just a flash in the pan then and teams will be free to continue spending whatever they can afford.

Yes that is unfortunate, but again falls under the category of protecting the big teams.
