Was Alvarez weight drained against Mayweather?
Apparently Canelos next fight with Lara will take place above the standard light middleweight limit. Probably the real reason Alvarez didnt care about the title being on the line was so he could get the fight above limit. It would seem Alvarez is not comfortable at the weight and has to really push himself to make it. His last fight with Angulo was also over the limit. Against Mayweather, Alvarez had to get down a FURTHER 2lbs below the light middleweight limit where he is already struggling. Alvarez would have had a tough time training while having to drain himself down to his bodies limit at the same time. He would have had to take a lot outof himself before the fight even began. Perhaps this contributed to a lethargic, slow and flat footed display. Either way, I dont think Alvarez will be at light middleweight much longer. I am sure a jump to middleweight to take on the Martinez/Cotto winner and even a potentially huge all Mexican showdown with Chavez could be in store.

His feet have always been rather slow, he's short with a lot of bulk ontop, generally fighters that are built like him aren't the quickest. He looked slow in comparison to Floyd, but I rewatched the fight (shosports Youtube channel has the full fight up there in HD to revisit) in the running up to Floyd Vs. Maidana and I honestly thought that Canelo did really well, there just wasn't an awful lot more he could do really... He's never had great stamina and hasn't been one to go after another guy, he prefers guys to come to him, which is one of the reasons he struggled with Trout so much, and one reason he will probably struggle with Lara. though it must be said, Lara's kryptonite is inside fighting, the man simply cannot do it.

It was the weight loss. Canelo would destroy Floyd otherwise. Mayweather isn't that good, am glad Maidana proved how much of a fraud he really is. Floyd Mayweather biggest ducker ever. I actually think Duran would take him now.

Hatton was probably the closet he ever got to beating a healthy opponent. Only problem was,Mayweather dragged the poor fella up the weight divisions and anytime Hatton was getting inside, Joe Cortez kept hitting him from behind.

Mayweather spent years criticizing Pacquiao for catch weights and them does it to Canelo.
Canelo was picked as he has slow feet and doesn't have the stamina to fight a pressure fight.
Floyd obviously underestimated Maidana's pressure fighting ability.
Floyd doesn't do risk.

Some of his fans could do with waking up and smelling it.
Not you though TRUSSMAN. Your Mayweather evaluation is spot on.

I never understood why the 152 catchweight was insterted into the contract, both were 154lb champions at the time.
Canelo was weight drained as he struggled to make 154 so to make 152 would be even harder.

Yeah, it does cheapen Floyds wins over Canelo somewhat, if you are going to claim that Cotto had never lost prior to fighting him due to his two losses being to a guy that cheated with hand wraps and the his loss to Manny not counting due to a catchweight you can't really impose a catchweight on one of your biggest legacy defining fights and get away completely unscathed. It is something legitimate to beat Mayweather with on that particular case in my book.

Re: Was Alvarez weight drained against Mayweather?
Im of the opinion that a couple of pounds makes very little difference. Hence why I give full credit to Mayweather for Canelo, and also to Pacman against Cotto. I just dont see how shedding an extra pound or two can make a drastic difference to how a fighter performs. I might be wrong though, as I have never had to do it myself.
Saying that, weight draining was clearly a huge factor in Pacman - ODLH. I guess it depends on the individual fighter and the amount of weight. Didnt Toney b**** about being weight drained when he got smacked around by RJJ?

Well Toney decided to do the majority of his training camp in McDonalds by the looks of him in that fight Joey.

You think d4's parents would have a second child?
Mayweather new that the extra couple of pounds would hurt Alvarez, but he just likes an edge. Alvarez agreed to it, which meant he felt he could do it. He did do it. Not much of an excuse for his defeat which was basically just to a better fighter.

No Canelo was in good shape and comfortable at the weight, he just got outclassed by a better fighter. Fighters with a moderate punch output like Alvarez are meat and drink to Floyd and he would have beat him just as easy even if he had been a couple of pounds heavier.

Toney said he had a cold but Jackie Kallen wouldn't let him pull out (which is why he went looking for her with a gun).
To be fair, he looked dreadful. He rehydrated via an IV drip (if memory serves me correct). A real shame as super fights (real super fights) are rare.

If losing that extra weight made no difference then Floyd wouldn't have demanded it.
