Mignolet
Johnson Skrtel Sakho New LB
Gerrard
Henderson Lallana
Sterling
Suarez Sturridge

Can't see there being two many big changes to the starting eleven, not sure diamond will be stuck with but easiest way to show the players right now. Not sure who the new left back would be but think Rodgers will want to sign one, he's never seemed to have faith in Enrique and with basically a year out with injury he won't have done a lot to increase Rodgers' faith, can't see him going with Flanagan full time just yet, he might be primed to replace Johnson who would only have a year on his contract from next year.

Unless Manchester City or Chelsea come in with a big offer for Lallana, or possibly Manchester United, think he will end up at Liverpool and will slot in either wider in a Coutinho-esque role or more centrally. Creates more competition in the attacking roles which has been needed because the bench has looked inadequate all season and being stretched over more competitions, depth is key.

Think Rodgers' long term plan is to stick with Sakho, he cost £18 million so will be given more and more chances. If a new centre back is brought in, expect them to replace Skrtel and Agger/Skrtel to be sold, further disrupting the balance of the back four and another year or two of instability. If it was up to me, I would stick with Agger and Enrique and try to bring some balance to the back.

Think any other signings will likely be to bolster the depth of the squad, another forward or two, probably a holding midfielder.

cheers gents.

Big call on Paulinho John, have they been sniffing around him already?

I think you are probably both right that neither Chelsea or Liverpool will make too many changes to their respective starting lineups.

I belong in this converstaion now!!  Yahoo

Will wait to see who Nigel Pearson signs before I predict the starting line up. Can guarantee Kasper Schmeichel will be in goal, Wes Morgan will be in defense, Danny Drinkwater will be in midfield and David Nugent will be in attack.

Interesting your £180m over three years, expect many of those Leicester players will be shipped out over the next 12 months. As for David Nugent in the EPL.....I'm predicting less than 5 goals.

Oh yeah, he'll be in there. I was just saying that Paulinho will be incoming most probably. A central four of Matic, Ramires, Paulinho & Van Ginkel will be rotated throughout the year, with maybe Lampard, if he stays.

Nah Nugent is stronger now than he was back then. 10 goals minimum I say. I think the squad at least deserves the chance to show what they can do. Those that dont make the step up can go in January and next summer.

This one seems pretty realistic, although I'm not sure you'd ideally want carrick first choice at this stage of his career, although I guess you'd expect at least of him fellaini and cleverley to up their game considering next season

Carrick isnt a problem age wise. If he has that quality alongside him in a midfield you'll soon remember why hes been a player of the year there.

Van Gaal is also a fan of the 4-4-2 diamond format so it fits his style.

He likes his 4-3-3 but his main forte is to have a deep lying playmaker and a high pressure set up designed to win the ball back as high up the pitch as possible.

Louis van Gaal has played many different systems throughout his career from 3-4-3 to 4-3-3, 4-4-2, 4-4-2 diamond and 4-2-3-1 - and of course 5-3-2 for the second time as an international boss last night!

I would like him to move for Dembélé - he has worked with him before and could help him really fulfil his potential. However, defence is the priority for me.

Very early, but for Villa.

Guzan
Vlaar
Delph
Benteke, whenever he gets back.

Only certainties.

Depends if we have a new manager by then.

Post by Trebs Mon 19 May 2014, 9:14 am

I don't want too many new signings in, I'd like to see things stay consistent at United, but based on the rumours, something like:

--------------------- De Gea ---------------------
---- Rafael ----- ???? ----- Jones ----- Shaw ----
-- Mata --- Carrick --- Cleverley --- Robben --
--------------- Rooney --- Van Persie -----------

Not sure who the centre back should be, I would take anyone who is at the top level today, someone who is a leader at the back. Jones should get the other spot and allow him to develop. I would keep the midfield and attack the same, give Cleverley a new lease of life as last season he wasn't good enough, but that was a tactical issue with Moyes rather than the player being at fault. Robben would be a quality player to come in if the rumours are true.

However, my main gripe is with van Gaal becoming manager, I don't want him. He is too much of a dictator and things always end up in tears. I can't see him having any longevity at the club. I would prefer a younger manager with experience (ruling out Giggs for now).

Are you a genuine United fan? You think for 2014/15 season, that a midfield partnership of Carrick & Cleverley will guide you back to a top 4?If you think LVG is going to pick Cleverely, you are delusional. A 'new lease of life'?........where's that in his local McDonalds, flipping burgers, where he should of been years ago. You also want an ageing Robben & then you want to play him on the left wing, he's considerably more effective & comfortable on the right wing & cutting in on his left.

You don't want LVG because he's old a dictator? United need a manager of authority that the players look upto & respect. Moyes came in & had won nothing, they looked at him & thought, 'why am I listening to a manager who's won nothing'. You prefer a manager who's young with experience? I'd prefer a manager who's older, experienced & has won several titles & a champions league.

i agree with john, id be devastated if thats our starting line up for next season. were going nowhere playing 442 with carrick and clev in the middle. rvp and rooney dont play well together either

and i also like that lvg wont take no rubbish, moyes gave the likes of rooney plenty of power (too much for me) and it got us nowhere.

That line up would just be so awful, really really awful.

Jones will (or should) have fallen badly down the pecking order at centre half as he was abysmal (worse than cleverly) this season.
Evans should partner any new defender with smalling as 3rd choice.

Based on rumours
De gea
Rafael Evans centre back shaw
Carrick cleverly/new cm
Mata Rooney januzaj
Rvp

I'm not as optimistic as some at getting the players linked.

Think if we get shaw and a decent cb we will have done well.

Even with lvg and big money can't see any top or sub elite player worth his salt wanting to join.

But fingers crossed eh?

Cleverley would certainly improve most sides outside of the top 7. Flipping burgers...what is it with people being completely ridiculous about a player just cos he isnt tearing it up for a top four side.

not sure about that dolph, can easily flip that and say he's been awful with better team mates where its easier to play well. i dont think he's as bad as last season suggests, as his confidence is rock bottom and nobody in the stands has any faith in him but still think he's been nowhere near good enough for any top side in recent form

Rooney's probably going to hate van Gaal. Would be surprised if the stories about him wanting out aren't back by this time next year, if not sooner.

The thing is that Cleverley was better when United won the league. He's not become a poor player overnight, it's that Moyes has given him different tactics to be more defensive this season, dropping alongside Carrick rather than getting forward in a box to box role. It's why he was dropped for Fletcher, he was played incorrectly. If he's allowed to get forward, he can keep the ball, he's a genuine talent and I believe that. If Everton get him for £6m as the rumour mill says then they're getting a steal.

yeah wouldnt surprise me, dont really care if im honest. rooney is not worth what were paying him and he thinks he's bigger than the club. he either learns to tow the line or we get rid of a player for good money who is probably only regressing now

He was very good at Wigan. I'd take Cleverley at our place. I can see why Everton are linked with him too, good likeness for Osman but a bit faster and a lot younger.

One of the big worries with Van Gaal is that he may favour Van Persie, which would be fine as Van Persie is obviously a top player but he's got one or two years left at the top of the game at best I think and unless Van Gaal can bring back the fitness regime that Ferguson had for Van Persie, I can see him struggling with injuries again which would mean relying on Rooney who by this point could very easily have been alienated and unfit.

If I was United, I would definitely have considering cashing in on Van Persie this summer, but with Van Gaal coming in that is not a possibility at all.

With Giggs as assistant

A good logical appointment. Just what Utd need right now

Like most, its hard to choose now really but as a mackem this is what i would imagine for Poyet:

----------------Mannone---------------
--New RB---Vergini---Brown---New LB---
---------------Cattermole---------------
-----------Larsson---New CM-----------
--Johnson------------------Giaccherini--
---------------Whickham---------------

I think our team needs some big improvements:

New RB/CB - I want us to try and sign Vergini on a permanent deal. He looked good at RB but i think Poyet will try and move back to his usual CB position. That being said i would love for us to try and bring in Micah Richards although i see a bigger team taking him.

New LB - I think we will try to make Marcos Alonso's move permanent and he really made that role his despite me not being a fan of him when he played at Bolton. I would like to see us take a punt on Aaron Cresswell from Ipswich.

New CM - Now the Cattermole role is not a cert for me as Poyet may prefer Bridcutt in this role. 2 new midfielders for me are needed. The possibility of maybe Barry but maybe too many defensive players although N'Diaye looks to be moving which i think is a wrong move. A creative player has to be a target. Ki played this role well so maybe him permanent.

Another striker and winger is also needed IMO. Will Buckley looks like he will be one of the targets. Not sure who else until we know the full extent of what goes on til the end of June.
